Subj: Combination with Zoloft?
Date: 6/19/2006
I have been taking zoloft, 100mg – can I take phentermine in combination?

Gina

AskDocWeb: Bad idea, they will cause an interaction.

Subj: Wrong drug?
Date: 6/20/2006
I have just started phentermine. I ordered the 37.5 mg dosage and after reading medical feedback, I’m wondering if I need to start out on a smaller dosage. I need to loose more than 80 lbs. I am in my thirties and in good health. I am concerned about the effect my weight gain has on my overall health. I do not want diabetes or heart disease. I’ve had thorough check up, including testing on my thyroid before I ordered. I do want increased energy but I do not want to increase my risk of becoming dependent on this drug. Have I chosen the wrong diet drug?

Kerri

AskDocWeb: Not necessarily, phentermine has helped many people lose weight and the dosage sounds fine. Your doctor should make the final decision on this.

Subj: Advice?
Date: 6/20/2006
Can you give me advise on med?

Leticia

AskDocWeb: No, this website is for consumer comments and product reviews.

Subj: Is Phentermine for me?
Date: 6/23/2006
I work 20 hours a day and I only sleep 3-4 hours daily. I went to a clinic and they gave me phentermine 30mg pills and I had a little of high blood pressure, is this pill convenient for me to take?

FAVIOLA

AskDocWeb: That is a question your personal doctor needs to answer. If your blood pressure goes over 148/90 you may have to use an alternative method for losing weight. You want to avoid having a stroke.

Subj: Vomiting
Date: 6/23/2006
I have only been on phen for 2 days, and both mornings I have vomited about 30-45 minutes after I took the pill. After that, I am fine all day. I have seen a definite decrease in my eating. Is vomiting a normal side effect while my body gets used to this med? Thanks!

Lindsey

AskDocWeb: Vomiting is not a listed side effect, but that’s not to say it can’t happen. If the vomiting doesn’t stop, talk to your doctor. All that stomach acid coming back up isn’t healthy nor is it good for your teeth.

Subj: Phentermine story
Date: 6/23/2006
I weighed 272 pounds after I had my first child. I had gained almost 100 pounds. My doctor prescribed Phentermine to me. That was in the year 2000. I lost 100 pounds in a matter of 5 months. I went from a size 28 to a 12. I followed a no fat low calorie diet and drank alot of water. It is now the year of 2006 and I am still on this drug. The reason? I am addicted to it. I have never doubled on my pills. I have cut myself down to one every other day rather than one a day. When I try to stop taking them I get so tired I cannot even get out of bed. I have absolutely no energy whatsoever when off of them. Phentermine is a double edged sword. I am so thankful that I lost all the weight I needed and in a sense it gave me back my life. Now it controls my life.

Subj: Military drug test
Date: 6/26/2006
I want to follow-up on a previous question posed to you regarding Phentermine showing up in a drug screening. I am aware that the military now test for amphetamines. Therefore, wouldn’t taking Phentermine cause a positive urinalysis reading? Please let me know, so I can start taking this medication. Thanks.

KG

AskDocWeb: Phentermine has been reported to cause a false positive for Amphetamines and Ecstasy on urine tests (References 3 and 11).

Subj: Phentermine diet pills
Date: 6/29/2006
I have been taking phentermine for about 11 weeks and I started to get immune to it. A friend who is an on and off user suggested taking one pill early and 1/2 in the late afternoon, so I did. At first that method seemed effective, but now after doing this for a week I have suddenly developed dangerous side effects! I have had a continuous headache for 2/3 days, I feel constant pressure in my chest (mainly the right side of my chest), almost like a burning sensation in my chest area when I take deep breaths in and out, Gagging/feeling the need to vomit. After reading arrhythmia symptoms I realized they are identical to my symptoms. I know I need to follow up with a physician, but more less I am wanting to know is with what symptoms I have submitted, am I at risk for a sudden heart attack? Or is this my body’s way of saying I am immune to 37.5, but can’t handle a higher dosage? Could it be possible that I have permanently caused damage to myself after only taking Phentermine for 3 months? Thank you…

Robyn

AskDocWeb: It sounds like this drug may not work for you. The chance of permanent damage is small but you should talk with your doctor about an alternative. And listen to his advice, not your friends.

Subj: Bontril VS Phentermine
Date: 6/29/2006
I just started taking bontril I think I use to take phentermine though is phentermine the one they outlawed? Which is better Bontril or Phentermine The one I wanted was phentermine but I didn’t want to look like a diet craze and ask for it.

Krystal

AskDocWeb: Both Bontril and phentermine are still on the market. You are likely thinking of Phen-phen, which was outlawed. If you want to ask your doctor about it, try phrasing it something like, “What about drugs like Bontril or Phentermine? Would something like that help me?” That way you would sound curious instead of crazy.

Subj: Phentermine overdose
Date: 7/1/2006
My sister, 47-years-old, just recently died from taking phentermine on March 15, 2006. The doctor prescribed her the medicine when she weighed only 123 pounds at 5’5″. Yes – ONLY 123 POUNDS. She had been taking the drug for years off and on. I didn’t recognize the symptoms of addiction until just recently. It can cause severe depression, anxiety, panic attacks, severe nervousness, etc. By the way, the “Doctor (quack)” wrote her a prescription for 30 mg and another prescription for 37.5 mg Longacting. She got it filled on the 13th and died from a lethal overdose on the 15th. She supposedly took 5 pills (total of 172.5 mg). Please, please don’t take phentermine, or if you do, please go to a reputable doctor. This can be confirmed by the Office of the County Medical Examiner in Knoxville, Tennessee. There is a clinic on Kingston Pike that will sell this drug to anyone that has the money (as you can see from above). SHE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED THIS MEDICINE!!! SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL, KIND AND GENTLE WOMAN. NOW SHE’S GONE DUE TO PHENTERMINE.

Subj: Over the counter supplement
Date: 7/2/2006
What happens when Phentermine loses its weight loss effects after time. I lose zero weight from taking phentermine however, I am mentally convinced that I will not be able to lose weight without it. I feel my metabolism will slow down without it. Is this true? Is there anything over the counter to supplement for Phentermine?

Kelly

AskDocWeb: There isn’t anything over the counter to supplement a drug like Phentermine. You will have to increase the amount of exercise you get in order to get control of your metabolism.

Subj: Shortness of breath and chest pains
Date: 7/3/2006
I took Phentermine for 2 weeks until I started experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains. I stopped taking them immediately and went to see my doctor a week later. All test have come back negative except I haven’t received my echo results yet, but I’m still experiencing the chest pains, shortness of breath, headaches and some tingling in the arms and hands. Has anyone experienced anything like this? What did it turn out to be?

Tiffany

AskDocWeb: Oh, yes these symptoms have been reported by others when taking Phentermine.

Subj: South Beach Diet?
Date: 7/4/2006
If I follow the south beach diet plan is that a good plan to follow when taking phentermine 37.5 mg? If not what is the best way to eat?

Donna

AskDocWeb: Yes, overall the South Beach Diet is a good diet and can be used with Phentermine. A doctor I know lost a tremendous amount of weight on this diet and he looks great.

Subj: Irregular periods
Date: 7/5/2006
Phentermine helped me loose 25lbs in 6 weeks. It is great. I would recommend it to anyone really trying to loose weight. However, I’ve been on Phentermine since 5/26/2006 and the last time my period came was on 5/29/2006. I have not seen it yet. Is there any recordings of women saying that Phentermine delayed their period?

Darlene

AskDocWeb: Yes, it may cause irregular periods.

Subj: Interactions of medications
Date: 7/6/2006
I have been using senlix for about a week now, I am also taking lexapro, would the two medications interact, should I stop taking the asenlix?

Marc

AskDocWeb: If you meant asenlix, it cannot be taken with an antidepressant, they contradict each other. Please tell your doctor about all drugs and herbs that you are using with the lexapro.

Subj: Difficulty urinating
Date: 7/10/2006
I’ve been using Phentormine for about 3 months and love the results. HOWEVER, I have been experiencing extreme difficulty in urinating. I drink plenty of water yet am unable to go…feels almost as if I have an enlarged prostate…? Have you heard of any side affects of Phentormine and the prostate? Thank you for any comments.

Kaiwa

AskDocWeb: No we haven’t, but this is a problem you need to see your doctor about before it becomes any worse. Read more feedback from users.
