Subj: What to do after Phentermine
Date: 7/12/2006
I have taken phentermine twice in my life. For 2 months in 1996 where I lost 35lbs then again in 2002 for 1 month and a half that time losing 16lbs, each time resulting in gaining in all back with interest. I read some of the recommendations of taking a break in between I’d never tried that and it sounds good. I just started taking phentermine today, I going back to the gym 3 days a week and eating small meals 6 times a day. Since I’m going full force this time with my weight lost I don’t want to gain it back. My question is, what method should be taking when I am ready to stop taking the pill? Please advise because I do not want to gain the weight back once it is off. Also I have been taking a multivitamin for months now, can I continue with them while taking Phentermine?
Tracey
AskDocWeb: Continuing with the vitamins is a good idea. There may be a few days of feeling low on energy right after you discontinue the Phentermine but that will pass. Just keep up the exercise program and your energy will return.
Subj: Want to boost metabolism
Date: 7/13/2006
I have taken phentermine on and off for several years. It no longer has any effect on me, which my doctor said usually happens. I am not comfortable increasing the dose to two pills a day. Is there an alternative diet drug I can take to reboost my metabolism and start my weight loss again, which works differently?
Ashleigh
AskDocWeb: We don’t recommend diet drugs. That’s a job for your doctor based on your medical history and current condition.
Subj: Can Phentermine affect menstrual cycle?
Date: 7/17/2006
Can phentermine affect your menstrual cycle.
Jennifer
AskDocWeb: Yes it can. It may cause spotting for instance, or a missed period.
Subj: Doctor prescribed overdose?
Date: 7/17/2006
I took Phentermine 30mg Capsules on June 13th, 2005 and on June 20th, 2005 I started having medical problems. And, I’m still under doctor care. The only thing the doctor could say, I might of gave you to high of a dose. The only thing I can say is the doctors need to more careful of prescribing the dose, or get the stuff off the market. I don’t want anyone going through what I have and still am going through.
Kimberly
Subj: GM
Date: 7/18/2006
Is gm safe?
Picka
AskDocWeb: It has side effects such as raising your blood pressure, hypertension and constipation.
Subj: Same question as Ryan
Date: 7/18/2006
Ryan posted: A few years ago, I took fen-phen for about 6 months. I was never tested to make sure that everything was okay. Now I am taking Phentermine. How safe is this drug considering I had been on the fen-phen in the past? Does it increase my chances of health problems? Has anyone ever reported any serious health conditions or possibly death?
Ryan
I have the same question as Ryan, I was just given Phentermine from my diet doctor and took it for 2 days. This medication made me feel horrible. Both days that I was on it, I was so irritable and depressed, I cried because I was so annoyed and bothered with everything, I felt hateful and hopeless! I was not myself at all. It made me an unbearable person. I couldn’t even pretend that I wasn’t annoyed with everything! This is how fen-phen effected me and I got scared. I didn’t take it after the 2 days and when I was back to myself, I realized these affects were from being on that medication and was switched out to Tenuate 75MG. I would really like the feed back on Ryan’s comments…
Gina
AskDocWeb: What you describe sounds like either an adverse reaction or an overdose of Phentermine. In either case, anyone with similar symptoms should seek medical help as soon as possible. When you combine depression with overstimulation this can result in a very irritable person that can be quite unpleasant.
Subj: Constipated
Date: 7/19/2006
I am taking Phentermine 37.5 pills and I am very constipated? What should I do? Should I add Ducolax? I eat plenty of vegetables.
Bob
AskDocWeb: The standard reply is to eat in more fiber when constipated. A faster alternative is milk of magnesia.
Subj: Stronger than Phentermine?
Date: 7/20/2006
What diet pill is stronger than phentermine37.5 When I build up a tolerance for 37.5 what should I take next that’s stronger?
Aprli
AskDocWeb: That is a question for your doctor. This website is for user feedback or consumer reviews.
Subj: Name brand
Date: 7/21/2006
What is a reputable name brand for Phentermine?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: Adipex-P
Subj: Need weight loss tips
Date: 7/21/2006
I’m 14 years old, I’m 5’9″ and I weigh 255 pounds, I’m obese and I hate it. I don’t really look HUGE but I’m reasonably fat. I go to the gym and eat healthy here and there, it’s hard to not reach for those fatty foods but I try. I’ve been going to the gym for 9 months and I haven’t lost a pound, but I have gained muscle, could it be that I lost a few pounds and the muscle mass brought back the weight? For 9 months I should have lost alot of weight but I know I’m doing something wrong. I’m trying my best at losing weight, I use the steam room alot to sweat off as much fat as I can, but nothing seems to help. I would appreciate it if you would give me some tips and help me out. Thanks alot.
Anthony
AskDocWeb: That’s one of the tradeoffs of working out, muscle mass weighs more than fat. It sounds like you are on the right track. Just keep feeding the muscles and burning the fat.
Subj: Phentermine in drug tests
Date: 7/27/2006
I would like to know what specific results would show up if a urinalysis is conducted while taking phentermine. Would it be categorized under amphetamines or meth-amphetamines and would the break-down be precise?
Stella
AskDocWeb: There are a verity of urine tests on the market made by several vendors and the results are not all the same format. Phentermine has been reported to cause a false positive for Amphetamines and Ecstasy on urine tests (Ref: 3, 4, 11)
Subj: Affect of Phentermine on blood sugar
Date: 7/29/2006
I’m very pleased with Phentermine as it does what it is advertised to do suppress your appetite. I’m not a diabetic but I like to check my blood sugar when trying new medications and Phentermine is keeping my blood sugar around 135 to 140, is this product supposed to raise your blood sugar like this. Usually my blood sugar averages 95 to 100.
Lesa
AskDocWeb: We found no mention of Phentermine changing blood sugar level. You might ask your doctor about this.
Subj: Planning a pregnancy
Date: 7/31/2006
I have been taking phentermine 37.5 mg. for about 7 months now. I am planning on getting pregnant. How soon should I stop the medication before trying to get pregnant. Thanks.
Theresas
AskDocWeb: Phentermine stays in your system a long time after you stop. To be absolutely safe, we say talk to your doctor before you start trying to get pregnant.
Subj: Menopausal symptoms
Date: 7/31/2006
I have been taking phentermine 37.50 for some where between 3 and 4 years. I have stopped losing weight and have gained some weight. I have also started experiencing menopausal symptoms which I think could contribute to the weight gain. I would like to stop the phentermine gradually – I guess that is the best way. Give myself a break and then start again. Will phentermine work for me if I re-start after a break?
Eaw
AskDocWeb: The longer you use Phentermine the more likely you are to build up a tolerance to it. It probably will not work for you now since you’ve been on it for so long.
Subj: After 3 months of Phentermine
Date: 8/4/2006
I am nearing the end of my 3rd month on phentermine and have some questions and concerns. My doctor prescribed it to me because I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. A major side effect of this is weight gain. Since on phentermine I have lost 20+ pounds. I am very nervous that I will gain the weight back again. Before being on this I always ate right and basically followed (and still do) weight watchers. Still I always GAINED until phentermine. What are the success rates of people keeping the weight off that discontinued the use of it? Be honest! And is there anything other than the obvious eating right, drink lots of water, and exercise that would be helpful in preventing gaining it back. I did all of those things prior to Phentermine.
Now I am getting closer to discontinuing phentermine myself because I will be starting Clomid to try and get pregnant. Is the combination of a fertility drug such as Clomid and Phentermine harmful? If so, how long should I wait to begin Climid once off Phentermine?
Andy
AskDocWeb: You may gain the weight back and then some unless you maintain a good diet and exercise. Phentermine may stay in your system for two or three weeks. We suggest you talk to your doctor to be sure.
Subj: Fast heart rate
Date: 8/16/2006
I started taking phentermine 37.5 and then only side effect I have is diarrhea. No dry mouth, heart pumping fast. I know it’s working because I don’t feel like eating. I’m 5’11 and weigh 240LBS. I lost 3LBs the first day.
Chris
AskDocWeb: You should talk with your doctor about fast heart rate. This is a concern that should not be overlooked.
Subj: Phentermine addiction
Date: 8/25/2006
I have a friend who has been taking phentermine 37.5 for four years and takes 20 tabs a day. What will happen to her if she keeps taking them?
D
AskDocWeb: It sounds like she is addicted to Phentermine. When that happens, fatigue and depression increases. She is likely to take more pills to counter the side effects, which of course causes more side effects. Continued use can lead to a total collapse of her circulatory system resulting in convulsions, coma and then death. This is a major concern that should be reported by her to her physician.
Subj: Phentermine and menstrual cycle
Date: 9/2/2006
I have been taking phentermine for 1 month now. I have lost 12lbs. but I have not had a menstrual cycle for the month I have been taking it. I was wondering if it could be a result of the pills.
Nanci
AskDocWeb: Yes, a few women have reported changes in their menstrual cycle when taking Phentermine. If it doesn’t start the following month, talk with your doctor.
Subj: Is it true?
Date: 9/18/2006
Is it true that once I stop taking Phentermine that I will gain all my weight back? If I continue eating the same way I am eating now and exercising the same as I am now will I still gain back the weight?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: If you are eating a well balanced diet and getting the proper exercise the weight should stay off. It may be helpful if you think of Phentermine as a crutch. People use a crutch to help them walk until they can walk without it. Your crutch (Phentermine) is to help you learn to control your weight with diet and exercise until you can do that for yourself.
