Subj: Tightness in chest
Date: 2/15/2007
I took my first pill yesterday the 37.5 mg at 12 noon I admit I took it with a 44oz coke. 5 hrs later started to experience mild tightness in my chest. I still have it this morning. I decided not to take another dose and am a little worried. How long will this side effect last?
Allie
AskDocWeb: It shouldn’t last more than a few hours but you should tell to your doctor about it because it is considered an adverse reaction.
Subj: Phentermine not working as well
Date: 2/20/2007
I have used Phentermine for 1 month now it does not seem to be working as well. I know that your body gets used to it, do you have a suggestion as to what I can do to make that reverse. I would still like to lose more but do not want to increase the pills.
Casey
AskDocWeb: If your body is building up a tolerance to the drug there is nothing you can do about it other than change to an alternative.
Subj: Phentermine and pregnancy
Date: 2/26/2007
I was wanting to know how long you should you stop using Phentermine before you trying to become pregnant? Any information will be really helpful.
Shawntell
AskDocWeb: There isn’t any specific time limit on it. We would allow a couple of weeks. A few women take it while pregnant but only under a doctor’s care and then only when it is clearly needed.
Subj: Numbness in my left arm and leg
Date: 3/2/2007
I recently started taking this prescription and I had a numbness in my left arm and leg. Went to the emergency room and they said it was a side effect…but I couldn’t find it. Is this true or could something else be causing it, and also a burning sensation in the same arm and leg. Please let me know…Thanks,
Lisa
AskDocWeb: This is a side effect that very few suffer with, therefore it’s not listed as a side affect, but it can happen. It can also be caused by other health problems.
Subj: On blood pressure meds
Date: 3/4/2007
I am on blood pressure meds and it seems to be doing good and I am 176 pounds and only 5’2 so I am considered obese. Can I take phentermine and will it be okay?
Belinda
AskDocWeb: It shouldn’t be used by people with hypertension, sorry.
Subj: Phentermine and pregnancy complications
Date: 3/7/2007
I have been taking phentermine and so has my husband. If we try and get pregnant in a few months will there be any complications from the medication?
Dana
AskDocWeb: Answer updated February 22, 2012Please note that the FDA has changed the pregnancy category for Phentermine from C to X because animal or human studies have shown that the risk of adverse effects on a fetus outweigh any benefit. There is no known pregnancy related problem with your husband taking Phentermine.
Subj: Heart problem?
Date: 3/9/2007
I have been on phentermine for 5 months. Just now I have been told that this pill has possibly done something to my heart. I have been scheduled for a stress test to see how much or if any problems phentermine has caused.

Subj: Tremmoring
Date: 3/9/2007
I started going to the “diet dr.” in college, I had great success the first six months. That was thirteen years ago. Besides when I was pregnant with my two sons, I have been taking phentermine from the same “diet dr.” ever since. I don’t want to stop because I eat constantly when I am not on them, although I am at the same weight as before I ever started taking them. My hand has started tremmoring now and I need to know could this be a side effect of the extended use?
Tonya
AskDocWeb: Yes it could, tremors are considered an adverse reaction. Please see your doctor or a neurologist.
Subj: Under active thyroid
Date: 3/11/2007
My question is can you take phentermine hcl 37.2mg if you have an under active thyroid and taking levothyroxine 50mcg? Please help, I am struggling to lose any weight. I am about 5 stone over weight and have tried all kind of diets. Thank you,
Elizabeth
AskDocWeb: Sorry, it doesn’t sound like you are a candidate for Phentermine.
Subj: Lost 9 pounds already
Date: 3/12/2007
I have been taking this for 9 day and I have lost 9 pounds already. I take 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the early afternoon. I feel really good. I do get the jittery feeling from time to time, but not too bad. When I first started taking it, I felt like I was having a vertigo attack a couple of times, but that has not happened in the last 7 days. my goal is to lose 45 pounds. I will report back in a couple of weeks.

Subj: Phentermine side affects
Date: 3/12/2007
I like the taking phentermine but I am starting to feel some of the side affects such as dry mouth, and now my gums and teeth are aching. I would like to know if these symptoms will subside. I have just been taking it for a week but like the results.
Michelle
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you need to drink more water. The gum and teeth pain should be reported to your physician.
Subj: Lost 82 pounds
Date: 3/12/2007
I have been taking Phentermine for over 2 years now. I have lost 82 pounds total in a 5 year period. I would stop sometimes for a couple of weeks but then I would restart again. I feared that I would gain wait. Should I stop taking it. I still need to lose 15 more pounds.
Christine
AskDocWeb: Since Phentermine is only to be used for a short time, you should consult with your physician about your long-term use.
Subj: Blood pressure
Date: 3/12/2007
Hi I have been taking ‘Didrex’ for weight loss. Is this the same thing as the Phentermine? I couldn’t take the adipex because it raised my blood pressure too much and made me feel kind of nutty. But so far on this I have lost 10 pounds in a week. I am very excited. I was also wondering if it can be dangerous to me in any way? I have been trying to keep a watch on my blood pressure, by doing this am I being safe enough? Thanks so much!
Marsha
AskDocWeb: Yes you are being very careful by watching your blood pressure. If it remains stable you should be okay.
Subj: Happy but there is a downside
Date: 3/14/2007
I have been on phentermine for 8 weeks and have lost over 20 pounds. It seems that I have lost more inches than anything. My clothes look alot better on me and I feel alot better about my self. I have however been experiencing mood swings, and uncontrollable anger at times. All of which are way out of my character. That is really the only downside. I also feel very depressed from time to time. It I am upset about something I will remain that way all day. But now I seem to have that under control. I just divert my attention and think about something that makes me happy. Over all I am happy with the medication.

Subj: Got carried away
Date: 3/14/2007
I just started taking phentermine yesterday. I got a little carried away, and I’ve taken 9 or 10 in the past 24 hours. Is this seriously bad? I feel wired, but able to function. Do I need to seek medical attention?
Shshowell
AskDocWeb: Call poison control to find out what you should do immediately, and after that go to the emergency room to have your stomach pumped so you do not suffer with being unable to breathe, swelling, etc. They probably will call the police because this will be viewed as an attempted suicide.
Subj: Depressed
Date: 3/14/2007
Hi! I’m 18, and have been taking the pill for three days, and one effect that I noticed was that I was really concentrated in all my classes that always made me bored! But suddenly I felt depressed.
Camila
AskDocWeb: All sort of side effects have been reported by others with weight loss medications. Depression is one of them. If you cannot handle your depression, you will probably have to discontinue use of the phentermine. Going on an anti-depressant to solve the problem just causes more problems.
Subj: Phetermin
Date: 3/15/2007
I took phetermin (5) over a 2 or 3 day time span. How long will this drug stay in my system? Is it in my hair folicle? Will it show in a bodily fluid test? Thanks for your help…
Steve
AskDocWeb: Yes it could show up in a hair sample, even if you only took one pill. And it will show up in your urine.
Subj: Lost 32 lbs.

Subj: Numbness on face
Date: 3/20/2007
Hi, I’ve been on phentemine for five days I have also put myself on a strict healthy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables, it’s great. I do have a few side effects like numbness to the side of my face but it doesn’t concern me, because of my dedication and the help of pfentomine I have already lost 14lb. I know it sound unbelievable but these tablets are to help you train yourself to eat properly and not an excuse to eat whatever you like. I only intend to stay on phen for 12 weeks and I’m quite sure by then I will be in a good routine with my eating. Thanks for reading and good luck.
Melissa
AskDocWeb: That numbness on your face could be a cause for concern. Please check with your doctor. Read more feedback from users.
