Subj: Still feel the same
Date: 9/8/2007
I just started using Phentermine today and I still feel the same. When will I feel the results of the product?

Nikki

AskDocWeb: If you don’t have any side effects, that’s good. Ideally, it should only affect your appetite.

Subj: Using Phentermine long-term
Date: 9/9/2007
From 1992 until 2004 I took phentermine on and off because I always lost weight (even though, looking back I didn’t really need to lose that much – maybe a stone and a half) but at the time I was not happy with how I felt. I would maybe take them a month or two at the time and then I would have a break. Whenever I felt the weight creeping back I would always go back to the clinic for more. I realized that I was more addicted to the euphoric feeling they gave me more than anything else. I felt so motivated and focused, my flat was always so tidy. I felt really happy and had heaps of energy. I also felt that I was really chatty and sociable. I totally loved that high feeling. I used to hate it if I was really busy at work but when I was on the pills I wanted it to be really busy – it gave me such a buzz sorting everything out. I’m a smoker and I did find that when on the pills I just wanted to chain smoke, every cigarette felt like the first one of the day. I had all the usual side effects of dry mouth, being unable to sleep for the first few days etc but this didn’t bother me because I just loved the feeling and the buzz they gave me.

Back in 2002 though when I was out power walking – I did experience some chest pain which I’m sure was de to the phentermine. It’s now 2007 and I have gained (over the past 3-4 years – 3 stone (42 pounds)). I have also lost loads and loads of hair and have been diagnosed with androgenous alopecia. I’ve seen a dermatologist and there was nothing wrong with my bloods or thyroid.

Despite having not taken phentermine now for over 3 years – my hair is still falling out. I’m very, very depressed with my weight but I was reluctant to go back for more pills because here in the UK they are banned and only available from dodgy private clinics. I figured that they are obviously banned for a reason so I was a bit scared to go back to them I have always eaten healthy and never touch burgers/ fast food/ chocolate & cakes etc. My only vice is probably granary bread.

Anyway, over a year ago – I decided that pills are not the answer so I joined a gym and have been going about 5 times a week doing lots of cardio and also swimming. An average work out I usually burn off about 700+ cals and I’m also very active in my work and do a lot of walking so I will always burn off quite a lot more than 700 cals a day. So, after a year of all this excercise and healthy eating – I have not lost any weight !! My question is – do you think that the phentermine has messed up my metabolism?? It’s not normal for me to have not lost any weight. I’ve seen an endocrinologist to rule out any other problem such as PCOS and cushings, I’ve also had blood tests for thyroid etc and everything is normal. As well as making you eat much less – is there some other sort of magic thing that phentermine does that makes you lose weight? Also, if phentermine has messed up my metabolism – can I repair it? I’m so depressed right now because any attempts to lose weight are just not working.

Peppy

AskDocWeb: It’s more likely that your body has built up a tolerance for the drug and it will no longer work for you.

Subj: What can I do?
Date: 9/10/2007
I started using yellow 30 mg. phen. through a doctor after being on something else. I’ve been taking it for 4 days now and I do not feel any side affects. Not even dry mouth. I feel hunger pains more than I had in 7 months. I increased exercise and reduced some calories. What can I do? Is this normal?

Cookie

AskDocWeb: Wait awhile longer, then if you don’t lose any weight, make that a concern and talk to your physician.

Subj: Concern about drug testing
Date: 9/12/2007
Well I am concern because I started taking phentermine prescribed from my doctor for weight loss. Well right now I am looking for a job and I am scared that when I get tested I will come positive for amphetamines what can I do.

Evelyn

AskDocWeb: If you are going to be tested for drugs you would seem to have two choices; either get off of the phentermine or make sure those doing the test know you have a prescription for it.

Subj: Phentermine and birth control
Date: 9/16/2007
Will taking Phentermine effect my birth control?

Shannon

AskDocWeb: No.

Subj: My favorite one
Date: 9/17/2007
I love the pill, it really works, however I lost only 8 pounds in 2 months. (I wasn’t really fat, just wanted to lean up). Then I got tested and found out, that I have steatozis, my liver is damaged, so I am wondering, if it has any connections to the pill. I hope not, because this P pill was my favorite one, that really works. Good luck to all!

Subj: My metabolism
Date: 9/23/2007
I have taken phentermine for a couple of years – I am afraid I will gain weight without it. Is it true that my metabolism will slow down if I stop taking it? I really don’t think a person can lose weight without diet pills – I am tall – 5’9 and weigh around 144 – my weight has gone up about 8 pounds since July alone.

Kelly

AskDocWeb: Please consider the possibility that you have more control over your metabolism than you may think. What your metabolism does depends in part on the amount of exercise you get. This is why they want you make lifestyle changes that include exercise. Congratulations on your weight gain, that puts your BMI at a desirable level. Phentermine is only for those that are obese. You would have to gain another 56 pounds before you would qualify to use it.

Subj: Irregular female
Date: 9/25/2007
I have more of a question than comment. I am an irregular female who has to have some medication to start cycle. My husband and I were told if I lost 20% of my body weight that I would be able to ovulate on my own and my chances of becoming pregnant would be greater. So I took the drug and have lost more than 20% of body weight but really don’t know if I am pregnant or is the drug causing me to have or not have cycle. Before I started taking the drug I had one month were my cycle came without the help of medicine, then I started taking the diet pill in April and I took it again in may. I had a cycle normally for these month but I did not take any pills in June and I still had a normal or rather heavy cycle. I did not take any pills in July but the cycle was not normal, it was more of a spotting but for 3 days. I took pills again in August but I got spotting only for one day, now it is September and I did not take all of the pills in August and had some left and started taking on those and it seems as if I am trying to spot. There has been no real bleeding since June only spotting. So my question is does this drug cause your body to ovulate or could I really be pregnant.

Jackie

AskDocWeb: It could be either, some menstrual irregularity has been noted by users of Phentermine. Why not use a home pregnancy test to find out?

Subj: Drug screening
Date: 9/25/2007
I have been taking Phentermine on and off for several months and I took half of one yesterday morning. I just found out that I have a drug screening schedule tomorrow for a new job I am starting. What should I do?

Laurie

AskDocWeb: Tell them that you have a prescription for Phentermine.

Subj: Heart murmur
Date: 9/28/2007
I have recently been informed that I have a heart murmur…more specifically tricuspid insufficiency with normal pulmonary systolic pressure and apparently all valves and chambers are of normal size. I cannot get a real good explanation yet by either of my doctors if this is normal and more importantly if they will allow me to take phentermine which was the purpose of the appointment and the heart tests. Anyone know?

Stacy

AskDocWeb: Phentermine causes elevation of blood pressure, faster heart rate and stimulates the nervous system like the amphetamines. It is not advisable to take a product like Phentermine with a heart murmur.

Subj: Skin irritation on forearms and legs
Date: 9/28/2007
I was on Bontril for 6 mos. and lost 12 pounds before reaching a plateau. My doctor said I could try phentermine and I’ve been on it for about 3 weeks. Just this week, I broke out with a minor skin irritation on forearms and legs. They are small, red bumps tend to itch a bit. Is this a phentermine reaction? If so, wouldn’t I have noticed it within the first week of taking the appetite suppressant? Thanks,

Rose

AskDocWeb: As long as you haven’t been on an antibiotic lately it could be due to the Phentermine. In any case this needs to be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Lost 40 pounds but
Date: 10/2/2007
I have been on Phentermine for five months and have lost 40 pounds. I suffer from depression and also take Zoloft. Over the past two months my depression has gotten worse. Does anyone know if the increased depression can be brought on by the phentermine?

Maureen

AskDocWeb: Yes, others have reported depression is a side effect.

Subj: Headaches, sweating, irritability, mood swings
Date: 10/4/2007
I have been taking phentermine for almost 3 months now and have lost 20 lbs. Noticed some edginess in the beginning. After that, the first month or so, I was fine. Now I am having headaches, sweating, irritability, mood swings. I take it with Prozac. My doctor prescribed both. Are those all side effects if used too long? Is 3 months too long?

KV

AskDocWeb: These are side effects that should be reported to your doctor and let him decide where you should go from here. Read more feedback from users.
