Subj: I couldn’t be happier
Date: 3/25/2009
I was prescribed Phentermine about 6 months ago and have 40 pounds. I couldn’t be happier. I was diagnosed with non alcholic steatohepatitis of the liver 5 years ago and since I cannot take cholesterol medication I was put on phentermine to see if loosing wieght would help lower my triglycerides, ADL’s and cholesterol. I go in after the end of this month to find out, my doctor said he wants to take me off of phentermine but I don’t know if that is a good idea.
I used to have fatigue all the time, I couldn’t get through the day with out a nap but since taking this medication I’m just on the go, it did take a while though for me to finelly sleep at night. But I was curious to know if this medication could be the cause of my sudden vertigo spells? They only last about 5-10 secs. Every once in a while I will just be standing/walking and get so dizzy the room spins and I gotta grab a hold somthing so I don’t fall over or pass out and I have to wait for my eyes to adjust when it is over. Thanks everyone.

Subj: Unusual fatigue
Date: 3/26/2009
I have been taking phentermine for about a month now. I go back for my check up on 4/7/09. I am wondering if anyone else has issues with being so tired after taking the pill? I am so weak and tired like I got no rest at all. Also other times I have these weird epsiodes like I am goin to have a pannick attack. My arms go weak or numb and I get really dizzy. It’s a weird feeling, it will go away evenutally, mostly if I get cold fresh air. But a bad thing is, I smoke (not too heavy) and I am now on birth control. I have an IUD called implanon that’s placed in my arm. I’m scared and don’t know if this is because of phentermine, IUD, smoking or all 3. Any suggestions? thanks!
Melissa
AskDocWeb: Any unusual fatigue should be reported to your doctor and we suggest you do that, especially since you had numbness in your arm.
Subj: Taking Phentermine then discovered pregnancy?
Date: 3/28/2009
I have a question I was wondering if I take my phentermine if I become pregnant and stop then will it hurt me until I find out?
Stacey
AskDocWeb: It is not likely to hurt you but there is a small chance of complications. Phentermine is Pregnancy Category C. Drugs in this category have not been tested in pregnant women, and may not have been tested in animals either. Whatever testing has been done in animals has uncovered a chance of harm, however, the likelihood is considered small enough to justify taking the drug if it’s essential to your health.
Answer update February 22, 2012Please note that the FDA has changed the pregnancy category for Phentermine from C to X because animal or human studies have shown that the risk of adverse effects on a fetus outweigh any benefit.
Subj: Different between phentermine and phetremine
Date: 3/28/2009
Hi, I was taking phentermine for 6 months and lost all my weight. However I stopped taking the pill and gain double. I tried taking the pills again after a year but they don’t work for me. What can I do, and what is the different between phentermine and phetremine. Thank you in advance.
Aida
AskDocWeb: Phetremine seems to be one of the ways people misspell Phentermine although it may not be long before someone uses the name to copycat the original product. You safest course is to contact your doctor for alternatives.
Subj: Tightening in the chest
Date: 3/29/2009
I have been taking the 37.5 for about 2 weeks now and have been having some tightening in the chest. How can you know if it is heartburn or a side effect from this drug? (I don’t usually get heartburn) Thanks,
Tony
AskDocWeb: It is best to check with your doctor and he or she can ask additional questions to find out.
Subj: Phentermine did not suppress my appetite
Date: 3/30/2009
I recently started phentermine. My first dose was 30mg a day. I took it for about 9 days but stopped because it did not suppress my appetite.(my hunger pains were really bad). I did lose 3lbs though. My doctor increased my dosage to 37.5. I have been taking that for about 4 days, but my appetite seems worse. I will eat lunch and then 2 hours later, I have bad hunger pains.(although there is some weight loss). Should I stop the meds? I am 35lbs overweight, but I don’t want to risk my health?
Kimmie
AskDocWeb: If it is not working then you need to report back with your doctor, you may need an alternative to help you lose that extra weight.
Subj: Would like to have a baby
Date: 4/1/2009
I have been using phentermine for a month now. I have lost 10lbs. I have tried to maintain small portion eating, drinking lots of water and green tea. I have tried to excercise but that really hasn’t been possible. My husband and I would like to have a baby. How many months before should I stop using these pills?
Eileen
AskDocWeb: Phentermine can stay in the body for up to a month after you discontinue using it. Please note that there are a few health concerns with using Green Tea.
Subj: Drinking alcohol while taking Phentermine
Date: 4/2/2009
Yes, drinking alcohol while taking this drug will definitely make you sick. It does me anyway. It is best to completely avoid it.

Subj: Headaches and blurred vision
Date: 4/2/2009
I have been taking Phentermine 37.5 mg for two weeks now. The results have been great. I have lost 15 lbs. in 9 days, but the side effects, for me, have not been so good. I have headaches and blurred vision, on and off, several times a day, everyday I take Phentermine. But, the headaches/blurred vision only last about 5-10 minutes a time every time I feel these effects throughout the day.
Haylee
AskDocWeb: Please report these side effects to your doctor.
Subj: Yasmin with Phentermine
Date: 4/2/2009
I am interested in Phentermine however, I am on the Yasmin birth control- each containing 3.0 mg of drospirenone and 0.030 mg of ethinyl estradiol. Is it safe to take phentermine while taking my Yasmin or would there we health risks?
Annette
AskDocWeb: We found no drug interactions listed in our database between Phentermine and Yasmin but this does not mean that it is without risk. There are always health risks when taking prescription drugs but the possible risks have to be weighed against the known benefits.
Subj: Going back on Phentermine was not effective
Date: 4/5/2009
A year ago in 2006 I took Phentermine 37.5, under a doctor’s care. I lost over 30lbs, but gained most of it back after a year. In 2007 I went back on it, but it was not as effective.

Subj: Flutters in chest
Date: 4/6/2009
I have only taken Phentermine for four days, and have started having “flutters” in my chest. It almost feels like a panic attack. Can I stop this cold turkey since I have only been on this for four days, or should I wean myself off?
Melissa

Subj: Side effects of Phentermine
Date: 4/8/2009
I have been off of Phentermine for a month after taking it for five months and my side effects are listed below: not healing from cuts (this being the worst when heels crack and cuts on hands won’t ever heal) swollen muscles (reported from message therapist blurred vision and Chiropractor). I have been faithfully taking multi-vitamin Super-B-complex, extra vitamin E and C, Magnesium, and calcium. Fish oil and trace minerals and 300mcg of K2. What now?
Candace
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you might want to get a complete physical to pin this down.
Subj: Phentermine online?
Date: 4/9/2009
Phentermine really works. I lost 35 lbs in 6months when I was taking it. I’ve read that people can get it online…any suggestions where to go? Or any suggestions of a comparable substitute? I don’t want to have to go back to a weight loss doctor it’s too expensive.
Mel
AskDocWeb: Sorry Mel, we will not recommend any online source of drugs until our government gets the legal aspects sorted out. Federal and state laws differ quite a bit, and there are different regulations from one state to another.
Subj: How long does it take to work?
Date: 4/12/2009
I just stared taking phentermine 37.5 mg two days ago. So far I don’t feel any difference in my appetite. I will like to know how long does it take for the drug to start working and make you loose your appetite, you in order to start feeling not hungry.
Ana
AskDocWeb: Phentermine starts working within minutes, not days. Remember that it is not supposed to get rig of your appetite altogether, just reduce it. If you still don’t notice a difference by the end of one week you may want to check back with your doctor.
Subj: 56 year old woman
Date: 4/13/2009
I was prescribed Phentermine from my doctor after I had lost 46 pounds on Weight Watchers, combined with an excersize routine, which consisted of doing The Firm workout tapes in 1999. My weight reached a platau that wouldn’t budge in 2001. I had also quite drinking alcohol after many years of abuse. My doctor prescribed me Phentermine, after ASKING ME if I would like to try it. The ‘platau’ broke after 6 weeks of using Phentermine and I encountered no side effects.
My doctor retired in January of this year, requiring me to find another. I had been taking Phentermine, off and on for 5 years. My doctor was well aware that I was a recovered alcoholic and monitored me closely. This man knew me, talked to me and made me feel very cared for. I was only charged for my lab work in January, never receiving a bill from my doctor. He was a very kind man who was very aware that I no longer could afford health insurance. He was not concerned that any doctor would deny me my prescriptions, as my health was more improved than it had been before I started to take the Phentermine. My blood pressure had always been normal low to low and my cholesterol levels have dropped from 280 plus to 232, with my ‘good’ LDL being really good and my bad LDL being very low. I take Red Yeast Rice, vitamins and drank at least a gallon of water a day while taking it and I never abused the drug.
My new doctor took me off Phentermine, BEFORE receiving my medical records from my retired physician and when he saw me the second time in as many months (more money), my blood pressure was right on the border line of going into the high zone for the first time in my life! He discontinued the Phentermine with no program (let alone no talk of what side effects I may encounter) of how to wean me off, and now, two months later, I am back up to 141 lbs, where I’d hit the platau years ago. My weight had rounded off between 132-134 for years after beginning the Phentermine. My clothes don’t fit and I got rid of my “big” clothes years ago.
I am a 56 year old woman, 5’2″, with over 10 years of sobriety and am still able to work out like a 20 year old, but am now suffering from horrendous headaches which come on ‘out of the blue’. I feel another one of my personal rights have been stripped from me and am depressed due to the weight gain, headaches and lack of energy. I had a complete physical every year, and my liver enzymes came back slightly elevated a few years ago. My doctor tested me for everything from an ultrasound of my gallbladder to hepatitis, all coming up negative. Another enzyme test was done and my levels were normal again and have continued to be normal.
I was very happy with the results, the way I felt and with my good health, while taking Phentermine. Any suggestions for me to tell this new doctor to get him to rethink his decision to take me off, or should I rethink having him as my doctor? I lost the majority of my weight on my own, made the decision to quit drinking on my own, plus started and stuck to my work outs on my own. The abrupt removal of Phentermine even two months later seem to be detrimental to my health rather then beneficial. Can you help me?? Thank you.
Mary
AskDocWeb: First congratulation on your decision to quit drinking. You also deserve a pat on the back for having what it takes to stick with your exercise program. Good for you! From our perspective you may benefit from rethinking about what this drug means to you. When a person goes through a period of withdrawal it is common for them to think that what they are experiencing is detrimental to their health. If you feel like you need it, that is a warning sign of a possible addiction. Phentermine is a drug intended for the treatment of obesity and you can find out if you are obese or not by checking your BMI or Body Mass Index. Read more feedback from users.
