Subj: Changes in menstrual cycle
Date: 6/27/2009
I stared out taking Phentermine 37.5 in April 09. The took half of the tablet for the first week. Since then it has been 1 a day. I didn’t have a monthly cycle for the month of May, but started one the 2nd of June and haven’t stopped since. Could the Phentermine be causing this?

Michele

AskDocWeb: There are several reports that Phentermine caused changes in the menstrual cycle, anywhere from spotting to missed periods. Some just describe it as messed up.

Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 6/28/2009
I have been taking phentermine for 8 weeks now, and have just been upped to 37.5mg, I have lost 1st 9lb in 8 weeks, I am very happy with it, the only side affects I’m getting is the dry mouth, feels like I’v been sucking a lemon over night. Apart from that everything is going well,

Subj: Hated the side effects
Date: 6/28/2009
I just finished my first week of phentermine and discontinued it. I totally hated the side effects shortness of breath, light headed, anxiety, etc. and just the other day I went to the ER just discovering that I had a heart palpitation. It’s been three days since I’ve stopped how long does it take to for it to be completely out of my system to the point were I don’t feel the side effects? Thanks,

Alyssa

AskDocWeb: It may take up to a month to get out of your system completely.

Subj: Very tired and headaches
Date: 6/28/2009
Hi all I just recently started taking phen about 4 days ago and lost 4 lbs. I feel happy about it but for some reason I am always very tired and with the headaches and all, I haven’t been able to actually celebrate this. I feel fatigued and restless with headaches all day long. I feel so weak all the time now and I feel like I have no energy whatsoever. Does anyone know what to do with these symptoms?

Jasmeen

AskDocWeb: Headaches should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: I decided to try a few my friend gave me
Date: 6/30/2009
Hello my doctor said she thought phentermine would work great for me but I have to join a program that is really expensive so I decided to try a few my friend gave me. I am a little nervous that I will freak out on this pill 37.5 mg how potent is this stuff?

Nicole

AskDocWeb: If you use your friends prescription drug, that is drug abuse, and in most places that is against the law.

Subj: Can phentrimine stop working?
Date: 6/30/2009
I have been taking phentrimine 37.5 mg for roughly 5 months. Can phentrimine just stop working at any time. I have noticed a slow down in weight loss so and I have noticed that I am starting to eat alot more.

Jonathon

AskDocWeb: Yes, this a problem with appetite suppressants. The body develops a tolerance to them and they stop working. That is why they are only used for short-term treatment.

Subj: I lost 53 pounds in 2 1/2 months
Date: 7/3/2009
I loved taking Phentermine. I lost 53 lbs in 2 1/2 months. I stoped taking it do to I got pregnant. I did take it while breatfeeding my daughter. I started taking it June 13 and my daughter turned 1 on June 21. I continued taking it and breatfeeding till I found out I was pregnant mid Aug. I never seen any change in my daugher while taking phentermine. I did have UTI’s often it I did not push lots and I mean lots of water each day. I am not saying to take this while breatfeeding but my dr told me it was ok do to my daughers age and that she was eating solids and only breatfeedind night and morning. I did get hotflashes real bad when taking phentermine. Other than that it was great.

Subj: Taking a break
Date: 7/3/2009
I have been using phentermine for almost 4 weeks I want a break from it…but I am wondering how long before I can start again…what is the recommende time (break)?

Jacky

AskDocWeb: People have reported breaks as short as a couple of days up to a month but as far as we know there is no recommended time period for a break. Typically when the drug stops working an alternative is chosen.

Subj: Can’t seem to lose weight
Date: 7/8/2009
Hello, I am 21 years old, I am 5’5 and I weigh 224lbs, I am now currently on a diet and I go to the gym 5 days a week and lose 400 to 500 calories a day. But I cant seem to lose any weight! I have no health issues and I am not taking any other medications. Would I be a good canidate for Phentermine?

Isela

AskDocWeb: Well your BMI is high enough but you would have to consult with your doctor to find out if Phentermine would be a good choice or not. Your medical history also needs to be considered.

Subj: Dizzy, dry mouth, constipated, and headaches
Date: 7/10/2009
Hello I have been taking Phentermine 37.5mg since the 17th of June. The first day I felt very dizzy as if I was flying in the air, got a little scared but I knew it would go away. The second day it did not happened. The second week I noticed I had lost weight, felt very energetic, very dry mouth, sense of smell increased to the point that I only could smell everything, the smallest thing when the rest of the fam would not smell anything. Not hungry at all, I am making my self eat at least a little bit. Got also constipated. When my fam asks me what I want to eat I get nauceous just to think about it. Hope this info helps out…Also I get a headache everyday and my bones have started to hurt…don’t know if this is normal.

Betzy

Subj: Thyroid problems?
Date: 7/15/2009
I started taking phentermine 37.5mg about 6 weeks ago, about a week after starting I started getting a sore throat but not in the area most sore throats start. Mine was lower…then realized it was in the area of my thyroid. Then started having thyroid related problems and recently diagnosed at hyperthyroid. Is there a chance the phentermine caused this? Or was this just a strange coincidence?

Vickie

AskDocWeb: Phentermine has not been reported to cause any thyroid problems but it may aggravate an existing condition.

Subj: How long does it take?
Date: 7/15/2009
I currently weigh 200 pounds and have been taking phentermine for two weeks. I do feel less hungry, but my question is how long does it take till I see results, and the doctor sold me two weeks supply for 60 dollors is there any where cheaper.

Wanda

AskDocWeb: How long it will take depends on how much weight you want to lose and how fast you are losing it. Just divide the amount of weight you want to lose by your average daily loss and that will tell you how long it will take. The idea of a doctor selling drugs seem strange, what country allows that?

Subj: Increased temperature?
Date: 7/15/2009
I’m 43 years old. I’d like to know if anyone has reported increased temperature – very warm! Or increased knee or joint pain (exacerbates arthritic symptoms) when taking phentermine.

Heather

AskDocWeb: Although joint pain is not listed as one of the side effects of Phentermine several people have increased pain in a verity of joints. An increase in body temperature has not been reported.

Subj: Stopped cold turkey
Date: 7/16/2009
I am not very overweight but, wanted to take about 15 lbs. off. I took phentermine for two weeks and lost 10 lbs. I didn’t realize I couldn’t just go off it cold turkey. I stopped it and then several days later felt worse than I have ever felt in my life. I had a horrible headache, dizziness, weakness and couldn’t hardly get out of bed for three days! Still feel somewhat bad a few days later. NEVER go off it cold turkey! The same thing happened to someone else I knew…it feels like the worst flu you’ve ever had.

Aimee

Subj: Dizziness, blurred vision, and headache
Date: 7/18/2009
After 3 days of using I developed severe blurred vision and headache this has continued for 7 days…I am very dizzy non stop. My BP and pulse are fine. When does this feeling go away so I can drive and work again? The dizzyness has made it hard to function daily.

Noreen

AskDocWeb: Dizziness, blurred vision, and headaches are listed as side effects that should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Phentermine rash
Date: 7/19/2009
I began taking Phentermine about a week ago. I slept very little the first couple nights but didn’t feel tired the next morning. On the fifth day I ended up missing my does because I put it in my pocket and it must have slipped out. I broke out in this rash later that afternoon. This rash was on my upper arms, stomach and groin area. I went to my ER they gave me Solumedrol IV, Benadryl IV, and something else I don’t remember. The rash was gone in a couple of hours. The next morning I woke up to some mild itching only to be inundated with a stronger rash by later that afternoon. Returned to the ER, they gave me Epinephrine IV, and a cocktail of steroids and antihistamines, the same thing happened. I am now writing you on the sixth day. I woke up this morning so some mild itching and noticed the rash was back in a couple of areas. I took the prescribed medications and am hoping that this will be effective. Is this related to the Phentermine pills? I haven’t taken them in two days with today begin my third. Has anyone else experienced this?

Melissa

AskDocWeb: It is possible, there have been several reports of rash and that may indicate an allergic reaction.

Subj: Irritability
Date: 7/23/2009
I have started taking Phentermine on a 37.2mg dose once a day to achieve weight loss. I am taking amitripterline as well, a 20mg dose and my doc wants to increase this to 50mg. I am getting increasingly irritable and stressed is this a side effect? Can I expect any other side effects with my medication of a transdement patch called “Brutrans 10mg” over a 7 day period and domperidine as and when. Can u advise?

Mrs

AskDocWeb: Irritability is one of the possible side effects of Phentermine. Please remember that we do not give medical advice. This website is limited to sharing information about side effects.

Subj: Birth control and Phentermine
Date: 7/24/2009
This is my second week taking Phentermine. I lost 6lbs within the first week with eating correctly and exercising every day (cardio). My mouth has been extremely dry, resulting in my drinking a lot of water. From the second day that I started the pill, I began to spot. I am also on birth control (Loestrin 24) is the combination of the two causing me to spot? It has not yet stopped.

Tia

AskDocWeb: It is possible, there are several reports that Phentermine caused changes in the menstrual cycle, anywhere from spotting to missed periods.
