Subj: Recommended
Date: 8/24/2009
I am one of the million that has tried everything to loose the weight until I tried phentramine ( adipex), in 3 months I lost 25 pnd, by eating half of the food on my place, excercise, and plenty of energy to keep my husband happy… No symptoms, other than the ones already mentioned on the label…I have 1 month of not using them and I due feel tired, sleepy during the day, and my muscle and joints hurt. I have not stopped drinking water, keep eating small porting, and I have not gained the weight back… I will turn after 1 month, as I need to reach my goal from 185 to 130 ( I am at 160 today ) totally recommended to everyone!!! Good luck and keep the daily records of your experiance with phen….

Subj: Narcolepsy and increased appetite
Date: 8/24/2009
Please note that when used for narcolepsy the drug may have the opposite effect, possibly due to the different chemical reaction in the brain. When on Adipex, my appetite increased ridiculously- I was literally starving all the time. Then I switched to Ionamin. The first month on the medicine, I gained 30 pounds, although my appetite was slightly diminished, I was eating less, did not change my diet from what it was previously, and I work outdoors surveying, so I was briskly walking between 8 and 12 kilometers a day, which was actually an increase in exercise. Has anyone else experienced this? I do like effect the drug has on my narcolepsy- I have an easier time waking up and staying awake than other medications I was taking (including Dexedrine). It does seem to be decreasing in effectiveness over time, and I wonder if I will need to increase my dose. However, the weight gain is troubling, and my asthma seems to have worsened while taking it.

Subj: Blood pressure went up sky high
Date: 8/25/2009
I took a half of a phentermine and my blood pressure went up sky high 159/107. I wont take another one; do you think the cortisone shot I got the day before may have been part of the problem? Also I am 40 lbs over weight and cant seem to loose it; lots of problems in my life; deaths; son with secrets. Thanks,

Janie

AskDocWeb: Have you ever heard of a double whammy? Both Phentermine and the cortisone shot can increase your blood pressure.

Subj: Questions and comments about phentermine
Date: 8/25/2009
I have a couple of questions and comments about phentermine. First, I have taken this medication along with others over several years and have seen very good results. In the past I have taken it at a metabolic center along with shakes and b12 shots. Lately I have just been taking the medicine alone under doctor supervision which worked well for a while, but lately I noticed it did not have the same effectiviness it had in the past. I know it is meant to be a short term medication, but is it harmful if you take it on and off for longer periods of time? It gave me great energy which helped tremendously with increasing my exercise levels and it helped me manage my appetite better so instead of not eating all day then eating too late or craving during different points in the month, I made a conscious effort to eat more often and better all the time, but I noticed the effectiveness did decrease over time, so I am off of it for a while and plan to continue soon to continue to my goal weight. However, lately I have been checking my blood pressure and noticed it is higher than it has been in past years and was wondering if this could be a result of using this medication on and off for some years now? Lastly, is there any natural remedy other than caffeine that gives a similar boost in energy as phentermine does?

Michelle

AskDocWeb: Phentermine can raise your blood pressure even with short-term use. As with most drugs intended for short-term use, there is a lack of data on the effects of using it long-term. As for a natural energy boost, nothing is likely to equal the potency of a drug but there are some things you can try. All of the following have been used as energy boosters.

  • Almonds (raw)
  • American ginseng
  • Ashwaganda
  • Asian ginseng
  • Bananas
  • Dates
  • Figs
  • Green Tea
  • Honey
  • Licorice
  • Molasses
  • Pantothenic acid
  • Papaya
  • Pecans (raw)
  • Raisins
  • Reishi mushroom
  • Rhodiola
  • Siberian ginseng
  • Tyrosine (amino acid)
  • Walnuts (raw)

What works well for someone else may not work as well for you so experiment to find out what gives you the best boost.

Subj: Taking insulin with Phentermine
Date: 8/26/2009
I have been taking 37.5mg for about 5 days. The first few days I had more energy and had no problems what so ever about being hungry. Today I feel as though I am starving to death. I have been snacking on carrots, and celery. But I do not feel full. Also I have been wandering if taking insulin with this pill has been known to cause any problems or side effects? I am just curious because today I was feeling shaky and my sugar had dropped dangerously low and I had to force myself to eat bad things to get it to go back up, that made me feel as though I had cheated on my diet and wasted the 5 days I have been working so hard to lose weight in. Do you have any known problems with this?

Penney

AskDocWeb: Yes, diabetes is one of the conditions you should tell your doctor about before taking Phentermine. The information we have doesn’t say how the blood sugar levels are affected.

Subj: Clean drug test?
Date: 8/26/2009
I have used phentermine for about 3 weeks. I am applying for many jobs and I saw that phentermine will show up as Amphetamines and Ecstasy. How long will it take for it to get out of my system so I can have a clean drug test?

Aaron

AskDocWeb: It may take up to a month to completely leave your system.

Subj: I don’t want to feel hungry
Date: 8/27/2009
Well, I have only two days on phentermine and I have been feeling hungry, but it is not as severe or as strong as it was before I started taking it. I don’t want to feel hungry or feel my stomach growling when my husband is sitting next to me eating a pizza. But if you could help out, maybe I should take a stronger dosage, I just need twenty pounds off. Thank you,

Letty

AskDocWeb: Phentermine reduces your appetite but it doesn’t completely block it. If you think your dosage should be adjusted, talk to your doctor. It may also be helpful to take a look at Tips to Conquer Cravings.

Subj: I lost 5 pounds and that’s it
Date: 8/27/2009
Hi, I have been athletic all my life and a pretty healthy eater. At 30 I had a total Hysterectomy( due to severe endometriosis) and soon after was diagnosed with some auto immune diseases. Raynauds, Fibromyalgia, and tested positive for Rhuematoid Arthritis. My weight jumped from 160 – 210. I have scores of tests and everything is fine. So my endocrinologist put me on Phentermine 2mos ago. I lost 5 pounds and that’s it. I walk 1-3 miles at work a day ( keep track on my iphone pedometer) and I also track my cal intake which has truly been from 900-1500 calories. Average 1200 per day. Not only do I walk, I go home weight train, and switch up cardio on an elliptical or bicycle. I am more then frustrated. I am 5f7 and wearing a size 12-14. I use to be ( when I was normal and not anorexic) a good solid 8-10. What is wrong!!! I feel like others, like my Doctors think I am lying about how active I am but I am not. I have a heart monitor even to be sure I am hitting my target. Am I just stuck being a linebacker size? I do have muscle which I know weighs more, but there is still a considerable amount of FLUFF! Thank you!

KSaN

AskDocWeb: Over what period of time did you lose that 5 pounds? If that was just in your first week then you are doing great, otherwise talk to your doctor. When you feel stuck that is time to take a step back and look for new ways to accomplish your goal.

Subj: Phentermine works great!
Date: 8/28/2009
I began taking phentermine for weight loss. Works great! Only medicine on or off the counter that has worked. I have lost 40 lbs. BUT, here is the real ticker…I have had knee and foot pain for years and years; and while on the medication I am PAIN FREE. When I stopped taking for 45 days all the pain came back a hundred fold. I was in such pain I arrived in tears at the Doctor’s Office, had to buy crutches and am undergoing therapy for the pain. I asked the Doctor if I could get a small supply of Phentermine to see what it would do and if he likewise would investigate as to why it helps me and what the long term usage would be…I one pill this morning at 8 am it is now 12:48pm but I have been pain free for hours. I can actually run and jump and go up and down stairs without crying. What you say to that guys??? Oh yes, regular pain medicine does nothing to alleviate the pain.

I am not hungry all day and I WANT to have sex everyday. I started off 240pds and already loosing weight. I will post in December how much I lost. Only bad side effect is I am having problems going to sleep at night. I take the pill every other day so my body will not get use to it and not work anymore.

Subj: The key to my success
Date: 8/30/2009
I weighed 295 five and a half months ago, I now weigh 211. I rarely exercise. I follow a low carb diet under doctor’s care, and get high dose vitamin shots 3 times a week. But the 37.5 daily phentermine dose is the key to my success. I can’t recommend it strongly enough. I do have sleeplessness, this is the only bad effect I have experienced. I’ve tried every diet, and nothing has worked. This combo of diet and phentermine has been the key.

Subj: Life insurance exam
Date: 8/31/2009
I took a half of my wife’s 37.5mg phentermine and now I have to have a blood test for a life insurance exam the blood will be drawn in exactly 13 days after I took it. Is this going to show up?

Scott

AskDocWeb: Phentermine may show up as a false positive for Amphetamines or Ecstasy on urine tests (References 3, 4, and 11) but not sure know how it shows on a blood test, it depend on what they are testing for.

Subj: Stomach ulcer
Date: 9/2/2009
I have been taking Phentremine for about 6 weeks. I was recently diagnosed with a stomach ulcer (I believe is due to stress). Can phentremine cause ulcers? If continuing to take Phentremine, can this delay or slow my healing? Could it be making it worse?

Toni

AskDocWeb: Stomach upset may occur during the first few days of use but Phentermine has not been reported to cause ulcers or make them worse. Read more feedback from users.
