Subj: Safe way to wean myself off Phentermine
Date: 9/4/2009
I have been taking Phentermine for almost 30 days. During that time, I have lost 10 lbs. And feeling great! I love the weight loss and increased energy level, but I am worried about the addictive nature of the pill. I am wondering if there is a safe way to wean myself off the pill without feeling extreme tired and hungry. This will only cause me to continue taking the pill which I do not want to do. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Juan
AskDocWeb: The most comfortable way to wean off of anything is to gradually reduce the amount you are taking over time. For specific instructions contact your doctor.
Subj: Rashes, redness, and itching a lot
Date: 9/4/2009
Hi, I started taking this medication over 3 months ago. Like two weeks ago I started seeing rashes and redness in my torso and now legs and back. itching alot, what can I do to stop it? That (is) the only thing I’ve had…

AskDocWeb: This sounds like hives, which could indicate an allergic reaction so please check with your doctor.
Subj: Will Phentermine aggravate hemorrhoids?
Date: 9/5/2009
I am going to get an RX for Phentermine this week. My neighbor is on it and I’m going to her doc. I weigh 170-used to weigh about 200 lbs but I used ephedra I ordered off Amazon(bronkaid) after reading about it on a body building board. I want to get down to around 140-130. My ideal weight is supposed to be 120. Id be happy with anything less than 150 -I am 5 foot 4 and 32 yrs old. So I’m planning on taking this while my husband is deployed to the middle east and surprising him! I just pray I dont have any problems-I’m a healthy person–I do have minor hemmoroids though-could these be aggravated by the drying out effect of the drug? I noticed Ephedra tended to cause some discomfort. Would the Phentermine effect that?
Jen
AskDocWeb: One of the possible side effects of Phentermine is constipation which could aggravate your hemorrhoids. Constipation is listed as one of the side effects that should be reported to your doctor.
Both Phentermine and ephedra can cause tachycardia or rapid heartbeat. Please talk to your doctor before combining herbal treatments with prescription medication.
Subj: Breastfeeding
Date: 9/12/2009
I am breast-feeding my 3 month old son and am about to stop so that I may take phentermine for a 4 wks period for wt. loss. I would like to begin breast-feeding my son again after my 4 wk period on phentermin. So, how long should I wait to begin breast-feeding again after my last does of phentermin? What would be a safe time frame for me to begin breast-feeding my son again after being on the med for 4 wks?
Christi
AskDocWeb: Most of it is out of the body in a couple of weeks but some Phentermine can stay in the body for up to a month after stopping. It is best to discuss this with your doctor beforehand.
Subj: Finding a doctor
Date: 9/12/2009
I’d like to begin taking adipex. I don’t have a regular doctor anymore, and just made a big move. I’ve been looking into this option for over a year now, but will just now be have health insurance. How would I go about finding a doctor who will prescribe adipex? I’ve heard there are some who won’t touch it.
Megan
AskDocWeb: You may have a problem there because one of the signs of drug abuse is a patient asking for a specific drug rather than a solution to their problem. If you ask around among your friends and acquaintances perhaps one of them is taking Phentermine. If so, you could get the name of a doctor from them.

Subj: Lost 70 pounds
Date: 9/15/2009
I lost a total of 70 pounds. 20 pounds I lost working out 2 hrs a day 5 times a week but when I started phentermine I stopped working out. I did watch what I ate and I lost an additional 50 pounds with the pill alone in only 4 months (the 20 pounds I lost working out took 3 months). It completely cuts your appetite and once you stop the pill your appetit is already diminished so your able to keep the weight off easily I have not gained any weight since and I’ve been off phentermine for about a year.

Subj: Insomnia
Date: 9/15/2009
I just started on Phtermione 37.5 I have had insomnia each night. That is the only side effect so far that is bothersome. Dry mouth of course but that is easily remedied. Can I expect the insomnia to stop after a week or 2? Thanks,
Linda
AskDocWeb: The insomnia may or may not go away with continued use. Taking it too late in the day is likely to cause you insomnia.
Subj: Chest pains
Date: 9/16/2009
I have been on phentermine for 6 weeks and have lost 23 lbs that part I love! I am not hungry at all which is a first for me. The problems I am having though are elevated bp and hr, chest pains, and now a tightness in my chest that rarely goes away. I am only 24 so it is beginning to scare me??????

Subj: Panic chest pain
Date: 9/21/2009
I’m 47 and started taking phen (37.5) 1 1/2 weeks ago. I am very afraid of medicines like this but I felt like I was in a sinking ship weight wise. I have taken it from time to time over the past 15 years. Like I said, I’m afraid and so I could never become truly addicted. I have had felt a little chest pressure a couple of times but it’s short lived. I also have had times when my fingers and elbows have tingled. I have felt very tired and also very energized. Just tonight I had some sharp localized leg pain as I was sleeping and so I am searching here. I also have had eye pain and very red dry eyes for the past week and a half. The eye thing has got to be connected. I thought I had pink eye, but took the meds for that and the burning will not go away. Some mornings my eyes are full of dried tears. I guess I am going off of it tomorrow because once I panic over something, I can’t tell if I’m having real chest pain or panic chest pain. What’s the best way to wean off? I want to just go cold turkey. Should I?
Patton
AskDocWeb: The Physician’s Desk Reference lists agitated states under Contraindications, which means that those who have panic attacks should not take this drug. Please contact your doctor for an alternative weight loss product.

Subj: Can’t stop eating or snacking
Date: 9/27/2009
I have been taking phentermine 37.5 since Monday of last week September 21. I have had all the side effects: dry mouth, uncontrollable sweating, insomnia, constipation, very tired. But the one main purpose that I got on the medicine for is not working for me which is the appetite surpression. I don’t have the craving for McDonalds, candy, chips, etc. But I am still hungry and wanting to snack while counting my calories. I do not have the full feeling or the suppressed appetite. Two days into the diet, I told the doctor’s office and they gave me to pills of the Phementrazine 105 to try and that didn’t do anything as far as appetite suppression either. My friend told me she was on 37.5 and it didn’t work for her, so her doctor put her on 30 mg and it worked great. What possibly could my problem be? The doctor’s office told me I may have built a tolerace to this drug, but I have never taken it before. I am 32 and weighed in at 244, I started on this program so I could control my weight once I stared to calorie count and exercise. But it is discouraging when you cannot stop eating or snacking like everyone else. Any suggestions?

Subj: Red face
Date: 9/28/2009
I took Phentermine for the first time on Saturday, its is possible that it could cause my face to turn red? It looked like wind burn?
Ashley
AskDocWeb: A couple of people have reported facial flushing but it is not listed as a side effect.
Subj: Joint pain
Date: 9/29/2009
You know there are quite a few people on here mentioning joint pain… myself having joint pain as well. Never had it before taking Phentermine. I know it’s not a “listed side effect”, but one would find it odd that several people on here are experiencing it… and this is just ONE website…

Subj: Surgery?
Date: 9/30/2009
Should I stop taking Phentermine before going in for surgery using General Anesthesia and if so, how long before the surgery should I stop?
Pat
AskDocWeb: Since Phentermine increases the heartbeat it may affect the effectiveness of on the anesthesia used. You need to inform your doctor about any prescription drugs you are taking before surgery. There are more than enough possible complications for surgery but you can do something about this one.
Subj: Not losing weight
Date: 10/1/2009
My friend gave me some of her pills an I did lose some weight but I put it off going to the dr to get pills for myself but now that I have my own pills I’m not loseing weight now why is that?

AskDocWeb: The first three possible reasons that come to mind are; 1. You may not have made the required changes in diet/eating habits. 2. You may not have made the required changes in exercise/activity level. 3. Your dosage may need to be adjusted. Read more feedback from users.
