I read your paragraph and it hit home. I tried phentermine in 2003 after I had trouble losing the weight from my first child. It was great and worked well. I had no appetite and actually had to force myself to eat. I was very sensitive to the drug. It changed my personality-LITERALLY. I also dropped about 35 pounds in three months. After I lost the weight, and was getting to the end of my three months, my mood swings (I would become incredibly aggressive and easily enraged at times) began to level out. After I ran out of the medication and lost the weight, I began to have trouble sleeping. I also suffered from drops in blood pressure. I would stand up too quickly and have to wait until my vision cleared and my head stopped pounding to move. My mouth was always dry. It felt like several months before the drug was completely out of my system.
I got pregnant with my second child in 2005. Right before the pregnancy, I had been on a second round of the medication in 2004 as the weight crept back up when my appetite came back. I have been yo-yoing on this medication ever since. I think I have been on it a total of around 5 or 6 times…I have lost count. Now, I am back up the 35 pounds and considering taking it again, because my motivation is shot and I am struggling with depression. I find that once you have taken phentermine, it owns you. Not sure what to do at this point…

Subj: Wonder about yeast infections
Date: 10/18/2009
I have been taking Phentermine 37.5 mg for about a 6 weeks now and I have lost 20 pounds. I love it because I am 5’4 and I was 192 lbs. I was going to the going to the gym everyday and I wasn’t losing what seems to be like anything. Now that I am on Phentermine, I am going to the gym less and I am losing more weight. The down side of Phentermine is dry mouth but I make sure I drink lots of water and I don’t sleep. I take it in the morning about 7:30 and when I go to bed at 11 PM. I may dose off for about an hour and then I just role around the bed for most of the night. I am however being to wonder does this medicine causes yeast infections. I never had them before and now I have had an infection 4 times. My suggestion to anyone who’s metabolism has stopped like mine did – try it.

AskDocWeb: Most of the time, if you continue doing what you are doing, you keep getting the same results. So maybe it is time to do something different. Anytime that the effects of a drug become severe, it is time to talk to your doctor.
Subj: Losing weight too fast
Date: 10/22/2009
I love the product but need some advice. I’m 5’3″ and when I started phetermine 37.5mg I weighed 151. I have only been taking it for 2 days and have lost 8 pounds. I now weigh 143. I drink a lot of water and can only eat about 1000 calories a day. I’m moving so I count that as my cardio for now. I do have the jitters but I sleep decent at night and I’m not tired the next day. Sometimes me ears turn red and I feel like I’m getting a small feverish headache but then it goes away. I’m only 25 but I’m going to continue it. Do u think its a good idea to cut my dosage in half for a week since I’m losing weight so fast? I know ur not a dr. But maybe the dosage is to strong? What do u think? Thanks,
Hannah
AskDocWeb: We think you should let your doctor decide what dosage would be appropriate for you. The problem with losing weight too fast is that the weight is more likely to return when the drug is discontinued.
Subj: This is hard for me
Date: 10/22/2009
***Disclaimer…Please dont judge me and write mean remarks. I am looking for help. This is hard for me and I feel alone on this issue right now. Please read and comment only if it is helpful and not mean*** I am new to this site as of today, and I am in the posters position now.
I am 25. Happily married and in school. I have been on phentermine since March of 2008. I started it to lose weight for my wedding that was Nov 1st 2008. I did lose it. I was at 185lbs and went down to 155lbs the day of the wedding. I went off them for a week during our honeymoon and hated how I felt. I gained a little weight back. When we got back in town I booked it to the doctor to re up on my pills. I went back up to 170lbs in March and have yo yo the whole time on them. I would exercise non stop and eat health when I was eating. My husband noticed that I was acting strange and my mood had drastically changed. He said it was the pills. I didnt believe him. But I told him I would stop. That lasted a whole day. I hated how I felt I wanted to sleep all day and I was depressed and sad. The pills made my energy go threw the roof, I loved it. I felt like I could do anything.
The pills lose their effectiveness after 12 weeks they are not a long term pill. I realized I liked them for the high and the energy. So I kept taking them behind my husband’s back. I even started to up the dose from 2 a day to 3 some times 4 because the effect wasn’t the same. Mind you the mg were at 37.5 a pill.
Just recently I started getting “sick”. I would space out then come back to reality and forget were I was and what I was doing I would for get events from the night before even. I was getting sick to my stomach constant headaches and grinding and clenching my teeth non stop.
It was last night that my husband realized something was wrong. I told him about the pills and that I was still taking them and the amount. He looked into them and found out they were and ampetimine. We got into a huge fight because I didnt think I had a problem and that is wasn’t the pills I was just sick and I need to take them to stay on top of everything. This is when in his explanation of addicts and addiction I started to realize I did have a problem. I just want to find out if anyone else out there has gone threw this and what they did to stop.
I am starting my first day off to day in a very long time. It is hard I’m shaking and have an upset stomach I have no energy and I’m miserable but I dont wanna hurt myself or my family anymore. I have never had a drug problem in my life nor a drinking issue. I have been doing all sorts of diet pills since I was 12 I am now 25 and have had eating disorders too. I am going to detox next week but I just need to know I’m not alone and I want people to know this is real it can happen. These pills are only ment for 12 weeks. If you take them longer you should think about if they are really working or if it is in your head.
Amanda
AskDocWeb: If you use Phentermine continuously for several weeks, you may experience withdrawal effects if you stop taking it suddenly. Others have reported depression and extreme tiredness when discontinuing Phentermine after a long period of use. These withdrawal symptoms lasted from 3 days to at most, 2 weeks. Good luck!
Subj: Hoping to get pregnant
Date: 10/24/2009
I am 35 and hoping to get pregnant in the future. I want to loose about 70 pounds then start trying to get pregnant. My question is how long should I wait to get pregnant after taking phentermine. I know it has a half life of about 17 hours or so. Does phentermine altar chances of getting pregnant or cause any serious birth defects. I am also taking a prenatal vitamin everyday. Thank you for your help.
Ree
AskDocWeb: We saw no evidence that Phentermine can cause any birth defects but in your situation (starting a pregnancy) you should talk this over with your doctor first. A few women take it while pregnant but only under a doctor’s care and then only when it is clearly needed. Phentermine is in Pregnancy Category C. Whatever testing has been done on drugs in this category in animals has uncovered a chance of harm. However, the likelihood is considered small enough to justify taking the drug if it’s essential to your health. A general “rule of thumb” is that it takes five and a half “half-lives” for the body to eliminate a drug to the point where it has no effect.
Answer update February 22, 2012Please note that the FDA has changed the pregnancy category for Phentermine from C to X because animal or human studies have shown that the risk of adverse effects on a fetus outweigh any benefit.
Subj: Still getting hungry?
Date: 10/26/2009
I have being taking phentermine for about two days now and I am still getting hungry??? Does it take a few more days to stop working? I want to loose 25 lbs.
Kelsey
AskDocWeb: Phentermine is NOT designed to completely turn off your appetite. It just turns it down or reduces it a ways. We put together a set of tips to help you conquer cravings. Please let us know if you find them helpful.
Subj: Taking half a pill?
Date: 10/28/2009
I am currently taking the phentermine 37.5. I have noticed if I take the whole pill in the morning I am tired and hungry by around 4p.m. however if I take half in the morning and half after lunch it lasts through the day. Does the phentermine loose its effectiveness if I take two lower doasges through out the day as apposed to one higher doasge in the morning?
Krysti
AskDocWeb: It appears that you answered your own question before asking it. Some people find that taking half in the morning and the other half in the afternoon is more effective than just taking one in the morning. Note that some patients can’t do this because it interferes with their ability to sleep.
Subj: What to do
Date: 10/29/2009
I take phentermine 37.5 just started a week my doc wanted me to take one in the morning. one in the evening. I think that was too much. So I did one a day. But one isn’t strong enough. what to do.
Janice
AskDocWeb: Talk to your doctor. Phentermine comes in several different strength dosages and medications often have to be adjusted during treatment.
Subj: Urine and blood test
Date: 10/31/2009
I have been taking Phentermine and the results are wonderful! I am about to have to take a urine and blood test on Tuesday and was wondering if this will show up. I took my last Phentermine pill on Wednesday, so Tuesday will make 6 days. Thanks,
Lorie
AskDocWeb: Most of it is out of the body in a couple of weeks but some Phentermine can stay in the body for up to a month after stopping. Phentermine has been reported to sometimes show up as Amphetamines or Ecstasy on urine tests (Ref: 3, 4, 11) so make sure to tell them about your prescription.
