Subj: Hives are driving me crazy
Date: 1/26/2010
I took phentermine for a year and lost 144 pounds. I was under close watch of a physician. I have gained back almost half the weight and it’s so frustrating! I am back on the pill, but it doesn’t seem to be cutting my appetite as well. (I went off it for a year.) I’m really frustrated. Also, I’m getting hives. Could this be from phentermine? They are driving me crazy! One more thing, something that really helped keep my tolerance level down during the year I took the pill was I’d take it for 5 days, then go off for two. I did that throughout the year I took them and did not grow tolerant, for the most part. (Granted, they weren’t cutting my appetite as well at the end as they were in the beginning.) For all of you who buy this online, PLEASE consider being under supervision of a MD. It’s not worth the risk you are taking. Your health and life are precious.

AskDocWeb: Although rare, hives are listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Would phentermine be safe
Date: 1/26/2010
My name is Ashley I’m 20 yrs old, I weigh about 145 lbs but I have been 110 – 115 my whole life after my first baby I have not been able to get this wieght off. Would phentermine be safe for me to take, even if I was to just take it for a couple of months?
Ashley
AskDocWeb: Phentermine is a prescription drug, which means that your doctor would need to evaluate your medical history and current condition before deciding if it would be safe for you to use it.
Subj: Bones really hurt
Date: 1/27/2010
This is not one of the side effects listed and I am writing because it needs to be. I have taken this pill for 7 days and lost 5 pounds. I have noticed that by bones really hurt… I woke up in the morning and could barely walk from the pain. I also felt numbness on my arms… I got scared stopped taking the medication and felt better. It’s been 2 days and my joints are still sore but they do not hurt as much. I did not work out so I know it was the actual pill. My chest also hurts and I am having trouble breathing. I never had this problem before. I am not obessed I weigh 140 but I took this pill because I wanted to loose 10 pounds fast. I recomend you NOT take it. The long term side effects aren’t worth your health.

Subj: Lip turned blue
Date: 1/29/2010
I am taking phendimetrazine ER at 8am everyday now for 2 weeks. Since yesterday I have dark blue lower lip with no other negative side effect. I have taken a low dose lexapro in AM and low dose lunesta in PM for 6 months now. I am worried about the blue lip as there is no blanching when pressed. Would lunesta or lexapro combo with phen cause this or just the phen in general?
Brooks
AskDocWeb: When the skin turns blue that usually indicates cyanosis, a lack of oxygen and requires immediate medical attention. Typically this is seen first in the fingers, feet, toes, and ears but no matter where it shows up, it should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Blood pressure too high
Date: 2/1/2010
hi I have been taking phentermine for the past month and I have lost 14.5 pounds I went to the doc and was told my blood pressure was a little too high is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? I love these pills and dont want to have to stop taking them HELP!
Rhonda
AskDocWeb: If your doctor wants you to stop taking them because your blood pressure is too high, then you have to stop taking them. To continue taking them may put your life at risk.
Subj: Love the weight loss but hate side effects
Date: 2/2/2010
Hi, well I took phentermine about a yar and a half ago the results were great I lost 12.lbs in two weeks. but after two weeks I started getting swollen from my upper lip and eyes I also got hives and a rash all over my body. I stopped the phen but the effects continued on for about 8 months it was frustrating. Now thank god I only get this onces in a long while. Just last month got a lower dosage same thing got swollen and hives. I just love this product because of the weight loss results but hate it because of the side effects I wnat to try the lowest dosage there is. Will that help?
Talia
AskDocWeb: Using a lower dosage typically produces less side effects but your doctor will have to decide if it is safe for you to do that. If you are developing an allergic reaction then you may not be able to use it at all.
Subj: Headaches and rectal bleeding
Date: 2/4/2010
I’ve been taking phentermine 15 mg. and have felt no energy levels rise, decreased appetite, or weight loss. I have gotten headaches a lot more and a small bout of rectal bleeding. Not sure if the bleeding has anything to do w/ this drug or not- your thoughts? and should I consilt my Dr. to increase the dosage due to lack of common uses it’s suppose to have? Thanks for your time.
Sheila
AskDocWeb: Checking with your doctor sounds like a good idea, and remember to report your headaches and rectal bleeding too.
Subj: Not achieving the same results
Date: 2/6/2010
I took phentermine 2 yrs ago after my 2nd child. It changed my life. I lost just about 100lbs in a matter of months. I modified my diet and added daily exercise. I had my 3rd child 6 months ago. After not being able to loose the baby weight I started taking 30mg of phentermine again. To my absolute surprise I only lost 7lbs in a month. I stick to a strict diet of healthy foods, but I’m unable to exercise as religiously as I should. After I take my dose in the a.m. I become so intensely exhausted I could sleep for hours. I doubled the dose because towards the end of my experience last time I was instructed to by my Dr. This certainly helped some, but my Dr. discouraged it after talking with him. He added metformin and said it should bring success. I’m just curious as to why I become so tired after taking phentermine. Also, why I’m not achieving the same results as the 1st time around? Any thoughts?
Melisa
AskDocWeb: One of the problems with Phentermine is shared by most of the drugs for weight loss; typically over time the body builds up a tolerance for the drug and the effectiveness is lost.
Subj: Throat closing up
Date: 2/8/2010
I have been on phentermine for a few months and I was seeing results but unfortunally I stopped. Then I talked to a friend who I had not seen in a while, and so when I saw her drastically lost weight I asked her about what she was doing she told me she was going to some weight loss program with some dr. so I decided to go for a consultation. I then went to her dr. and after paying and getting my medicine I found out it was the same medication i had been on for few months, since I had already paid I decided to give them a try, so then I took phentermine 37.5 for one week until I started feeling confused, my heart felt kinda weird, I got dirreah and my throat felt like it was clossing up, on my return to the dr. to pick up my medicines for the 2nd week I told the dr. about what was going on with me he told me that about the throat that it might of been that i was getting a cold, and to check with my regular dr. he also told me to check my heart and until then he was going to give them to me again. So i went to my regular dr. and they did and EKG, the EKG came out “normal” so then I took a copy of it to the Dr. and he gave me phentermine again, so now im on my second week. The first 2 days were ok, but UNFORTUNALLY the 4th day I started to have the same “side effects”,… (throat closing up), it really bothers me and I do NOT want to stop taking them as I had already lost a total of 28 lbs in two weeks (18 lbs in the fist week and 10 in the second one)and I feel excited about it. but what would happen if I “IGNORE” the symptoms and continue with them?
Marcy
AskDocWeb: Ignoring serious symptoms is a bad idea. What happens if your throat closes up so much that you can’t breath?
Subj: Phentermine experience
Date: 2/16/2010
In reply to most of the posts I read, I would like to remind all patients of a few facts: taking this medication is very effective with removing excess water weight. Losing water, you need potasium. I recommend bananas. Plenty of water needs to be taken as the water removed does need to be replaced. If excercise is not incorporated from the first day of use with adipex or phentermine, you can kiss long term weight loss goodbye… I speak from experiences of the platuea Stages. When you know you are not in need of taking this and you are looking forward to stop the pills, dr appts, And when your sick of the mind games your money hungry dr is playing with your head…your ready to escape the vicious circle and be set free.
My dr prescribed this to me as I weighed 133 lbs…why? Because they knew my ultimate goal was 130..this ws a weakness of mine they tempted me with. I said I didn’t want it anymore but they said it would help w the last few pounds. I was given a cheap generic dispensed at the clinic and I ended up gaining weight. 136, 138, 140, 144 then they banned me from the cheap generic as if I were punished. I took a break and treated myself naturally as I cleansed my system From that Crap. When I went back to her i was at 150…2 lbs lighter from starting the diet 1.5 yrs ago. Dr wanted to give me the bad clinic generic..(which not all are bad but some react w bodys differently). I was ready to start the adipex regimen but I asked for a script and went to a pharmacy to get my own brand…I don’t recommend this med for any weak minded or easy to influence personality… You must be aware of everything around you and ready to monitor your results…with and without certain variables. Physical excercise, green tea and vitamins people! Motivate yourself when your feeling down about your inactive lifestyle whether on any pill or none. Think of the struggle as a new challenge which is only s beginning to a new and better you!

Subj: I smell cigarette smoke
Date: 2/16/2010
I’ve been taking Phentermine for about 6 weeks now. My doctor started me out on the lowest dose. I lost 11 pounds my first month. When I returned for my checkup, the doctor upped by dose to 37.5. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been experiencing the sensation that I smell cigarette smoke when there is none around me. I have not read this in the feedback as being a common reaction. I’m wondering if anyone else has also had such an experience.

Subj: Skin rash
Date: 2/17/2010
I have been phentermine for about 4 weeks now and I’ve seen how effective it is. I’ve lost 18lbs almost effortlessly. It’s a great pill. However, over the course of about a week and a half I have developed a severe skin rash (red bumps, scaly and very itchy) and am wondering if this is a possible allergic reaction to the pill?
Robin
AskDocWeb: If someone is allergic to Phentermine, the rash and other sypmptoms would usually show up within hours of taking the first dose. Read more feedback from users.
