Subj: Spotting
Date: 2/21/2010
I took Phentermine about 2years ago. I los 60lbs in 8 months. I had no problems. I recently started taking the medication again and have been on it for 3 weeks. I started my cycle (which has never been irregular) however this cycle has been going on for 2 weeks. I started spotting the first day and then was pretty heavy after that. I refrained from taking it yesterday and the bleeding stopped. I then decided to take the medication this morning and the bleeding started again.

Subj: Knee pain
Date: 2/24/2010
I have been using Phentermine for about two months now and the that I have noticed is that I am beginning to have SHARP knee pain. Is it because I needs to take a multi-vitamin as well or something?

Susie

AskDocWeb: Arthralgia or joint pain is not listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine but there are a few reports of that by users. Many people take a B complex and vitamin C to compensate for the stress of dieting.

Subj: Random drug test
Date: 2/24/2010
I been taking this medicine for 5 days now. ..I’m worried that I get random drug test…I have a note from the doc…do I give this to my job now or when the drug test comes by?

Vito

AskDocWeb: Company policy is different from one businesses to the next. You will have to check this out for yourself.

Subj: Sudden flushing
Date: 2/24/2010
I was taking Phentermine for about 4 & 1/2 months. In the 3rd month, I realized my palms started turning really red, as well as my ears. I have now been off of the medication for about 4 months & it is still happening. Also, I now have sudden flushing in my face & upper chest frequently. I’ve been to my physician & had an EKG, ECHO, bloodwork, & everything is normal, as well as my blood pressure. He thinks it is anxiety. Is this normal & is it caused by the Phentermine… more importantly, will it ever stop?

Christina

AskDocWeb: A couple of people have reported facial flushing but it is not listed as a side effect. It is highly unlikely for any side effect to show up four months after discontinuing the drug.

Subj: Absolutely ridiculous
Date: 2/25/2010
I am a 23 year old girl who is 5’1 and 115. I have recently been given a bottle of 30 phentermine 37.5 mg pill by a friend who doesn’t need them. I am usually 100- 105 but I just got out of a really terrible relationship and due to depression and unemployment blues, I gained 10- 12 pounds. Would it be absolutely ridiculous for me to take a 1/2 a pill for a month to knock off the pesky pounds? I already eat very healthfully (I’m vegan) and I consume around 1000 calories a day (due to my small stature this is the correct intake for my metabolic rate). I am just not losing the weight with diet/ exercise. Plus, I quit smoking after 8 years about 3 days ago, and I feel as if this will make weight loss even more difficult. Thanks for your response.

Liz

AskDocWeb: Yes, in our opinion it would be absolutely ridiculous to break the law by taking someone else’s prescription drug. One of the reasons that it is illegal is that taking drugs intended for someone else puts your life at risk, and that is not worth a few pesky pounds.

Subj: Cold sores?
Date: 2/25/2010
I took phentermine 37.5mg and at the end of the day I got a cold sore. On day 2 I got another one. Is this one of the side effects?

Jenice

AskDocWeb: Cold sores are not listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine but they are known to show up in stressful situations.

Subj: Angry and depressed
Date: 2/26/2010
Hey everyone. I was on phentermine for about a month and lost 16lbs really quickly. I had some energy but the medicine quickly made a turn for the worst. I became very angry and depressed. I would flip out on everyone and everything and then just cry for no reason. I then started to get pains in my sides. The worst part was when I would wake up with black and blues all over my body for hitting nothing. I really was happy with the weight loss but after being so miserable, angry, and having black and blues all over my body for no reason I decided to stop the medication. I guess I will try a different way to loose the weight because this way was NOT worth it!

Subj: Random drug test
Date: 2/26/2010
I started using prescription phentermine five days ago, and was given a surprised random drug test on my job yesterday. Should i be ok since i have a prescription for it. and is phentermine definetly detected in drug testing!!!

Jean

AskDocWeb: It is not 100% certain but you need to be prepared for that possibility. Phentermine has been reported to cause a false positive for Amphetamines and Ecstasy on urine drug tests (References 3, 4, and 11).

Subj: OCD?
Date: 2/27/2010
can phentermine 37.5 mgm make someone develop ocd? I have all the signs but not sure.

Rebecca

AskDocWeb: There is nothing to indicate that Phentermine might cause anyone to develop obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Subj: So tired
Date: 3/1/2010
I weight about 140 and was about 5’4 when I started taking phentermine. I took it for about two months and got down to 110 pounds. I felt great. I would take phentermine before school and would go to school all day and then at about 3 when I got out, I got so tired and had to have a nap. I have been taking phentermine on and off for about 2 years now, and have maintained my weight to about 120. But every once in a while my heart will hurt, but it is very rare. I would recommend phentermine for someone who is wanting to lose 20 to 30 pounds, and dosent have the time to exercixe. But if tou enjoy eating, this peel is not for you. Your mainly drinking water ALWAYS! and maybe you get a few bites to eat a day.

AskDocWeb: Other than just keeping yourself well hydrated (lots of water) there isn’t anything you can do to get it out of your system faster.

Subj: Urine drug test
Date: 3/1/2010
i am taking phentermine HCL 37.5 can it show up in a urine drug test as Methamphetamine because some one told me it had happen to them and i really dont want to loose my job like they did… PLEASE HELP

Santa
AskDocWeb: Phentermine has been reported to show up as a false positive for amphetamines and ecstasy on urine drug screens (References 3, 4, and 11). If your job is at risk then you may want to find an alternative.

Subj: Sleepy & yawning
Date: 3/4/2010
I was prescribed 15mg. Phentermine 2 weeks ago. I have not lost any weight yet. I was taking it at 6:30AM, 1hr. before breakfast. I was getting sleepy & yawning by lunchtime, then had no energy to exercise when I got home from work. I took it today at 10AM & feel much more awake. Have you ever heard of this?

Carol
AskDocWeb: Yes, several people have posted comments about feeling sleepy later in the day after taking Phentermine. Remember that Phentermine is a stimulant so once it starts wearing off, your body slows back down.

Subj: Cutting down
Date: 3/6/2010

AskDocWeb: Many of the symptoms you list are associated with long-term use. If your doctor knows that you are taking this drug then you may have to change doctors in order to get the help you need.

Subj: Weird side effects
Date: 3/7/2010
I was recommended phen by 2 coworkers that lost 40 pounds in 8 weeks, and since I was dieting and exercising but losing weight very slowly, I thought ok let’s give it a try…I’m 5’5 and weight 160, looking to lose 25. Went to my doctor and he gave me 37.5 phen, only side effect I had was dry mouth, so after 9 days on it I lost 2 pounds, but started feeling weird, like my heart would beat fast, so I wasn’t ok with this, because as much as I wanna lose weight, I rather be healthy and not have long term damage after phen, so I decided to stop taking them, by dieting and exercising I was losing weight at the same pace like with phen, so why would I use this pill that’s giving me weird side effects when I can fight this battle alone? Guess I wanted the fastest way out, but after reading all these experiences and about ppl getting addicted to them, plus the side effects I was having, this is not worth it… So far no withdrawl symptoms so far, except feeling more hungry than u sual, but I’m drinking plenty of water to take care of that.

Subj: Suggestions on getting off Phentermine
Date: 3/8/2010
I have been taken the Phentermine 37.5mg for about two years. I have lost weight but I seem to get depressed very easily and will cry on the drop of a hat. I can be fine one minute and raising hell the next. I take a phentermine pill and a stay a wake pill that has 200mg of caffeine everyday about 3am. I have tried to stop taken the pill all at once and its like I dont have any energy. How long does it take this to go away and you get your energy back? Also can this be causing me to be depressed and have very bad mood swings? Need some suggestions on getting off the pill in a safe way. Seems like I can not make the day without it.

Michelle
AskDocWeb: The safest way is to talk this over with your doctor and fully explain your situation. And be sure to mention how long you have been using this drug. Read more feedback from users.
