Subj: Longterm problems
Date: 4/1/2005
What happens if you take three a day of the 37.5 and had no reactions at all. Pulse is still around 75 and bp 110/70. Could this cause longterm problems with the heart, kidneys, or liver? Thanks,

AskDocWeb: The dose prescribed by your doctor is based on your health considerations. Taking more Phentermine than is prescribed by your doctor is considered drug abuse. Although you might get away with this in the short term, you are putting yourself at risk for increased blood pressure, nervousness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, a whole list of problems.

Subj: Phentermine with Zoloft
Date: 4/4/2005
Is it safe to combine 37.5 mg of phentermine and 50 mg of zoloft. I have been taking these for 2 wks and have had no side effects. Could you please tell me if there have been any known side effects to these medications being combined. Thank you.

AskDocWeb Please discuss this with your physician. There is a concern with taking the two together.

Subj: Heart attack and Phentermine
Date: 4/5/2005
I have been taking Phentermine for about 1 1/2 months now. I have lost a total of 12 lbs and I love it! However, my friend recently had a heart attack and the doctor claims it was due to taking Phentermine and that is what caused the swelling around her heart. She is in her mid-thirties and used to have high blood pressure. I’m not sure if I will continue taking the product or just do more research on the side effects. Good Luck to Everyone!

Subj: Phentermine with zoloft
Date: 4/6/2005
I just started taking low doses of phentermine with zoloft for weight loss. It works, but how dangerous is it?

AskDocWeb You need to talk this with your doctor about this because the danger depends on your medical history. Zoloft is an antidepressant.

Subj: Phentermine with Lexapro?
Date: 4/10/2005
Can you take phentermine while taking Lexapro?? Thanks.

AskDocWeb If Phentermine is taken with an anti-depressant there is a potential for complications like serotonin syndrome. In some cases the risk may be acceptable but your doctor will need to determine this is true for you.

Subj: Missouri drug laws
Date: 4/11/2005
Is there any suggested ways to get around the Missouri laws that ban shipping to this state? What stops a person from ordering Phentermine and having it sent to their sister in Phoenix?

AskDocWeb This website does not suggest you get around any laws. That can be very expensive in the long run.

Subj: Getting dizzy
Date: 4/12/2005
Hi, I have been taking 30mg of phentermine for 3 weeks (with no side effects) and the doc has just increased dose to 37.2mg, I am now getting dizzy spells and am light headed now and again. Are these normal side effects or should I stop taking the pills. Should I also avoid drinking coffee? Thanks,

AskDocWeb You need to let your doctor know about these side effects. He will likely just decrease the dose to allow you to avoid the side effects. It is a good idea to avoid stimulants that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure such as caffeine (coffee and coke) and decongestants. Common over-the-counter cough and cold medicines contain decongestants.

Subj: Phentermine and birth control
Date: 4/14/2005
Is there any reason to be concerned that taking phentermine will counteract with my birth control?

AskDocWeb We haven’t read any but to be on the safe side, discuss this with your physician.

Subj: Phentermine and pregnancy
Date: 4/17/2005
Hi, I started taking phentermine and I lost almost 30 pounds, that was great… I want to continue taking the pill but I am trying to get pregnant and I’m afraid to take the pill. Will this affect me in anyway if I were to get pregnant and take the pill not knowing so? Please respond!!!

AskDocWeb The desire to continue taking Phentermine may come from the addictive quality of this drug. If you are planning on getting pregnant, please discontinue the Phentermine. You need to be concerned about the child that will be growing inside you. Start by eating better, getting plenty of exercise and be concerned about your health.

Subj: Phentermine is fantastic
Date: 4/20/2005
This product is FANTASTIC!!! I’ve told everyone I know!!! But I’m afraid that I will not keep up the weight lose at rate I am losing now. I’ve been on it for 3 days and adding a little exercise I have lost 5 lbs. I am so excited to loose more but will the rate of weight dropping slow down at all I’m scared to get discouraged. The only side effects I have are dry mouth but it just makes me drink more water so that’s a good thing! And when I don’t follow the directions and I take it after noon (once), I pay the price at bedtime but this product is amazing.

AskDocWeb You are to drink a lot of water while on a weight loss pill, so don’t be discouraged. Losing weight slowly is better for you and it is more likely to stay off.

Subj: Which weightloss medication?
Date: 4/21/2005
Can you tell me which weight loss medication has the best results? I have tried Meridia and it did not work what so ever. Also, how long does it take to really start to see a weight loss difference with phentermine 37.5 and is that about the strongest weight loss medication out there?

AskDocWeb Finding the best weight loss “medication” for you is a job for your doctor. They do that based on your medical history and current condition taking into account any allergies you may have. Those who have had good luck with phentermine report weight loss started in the first week. To be successful at controlling your weight, you have exercise and monitor how much and what you eat.

Subj: Best thing on the market
Date: 4/22/2005
Phentermine is the best thing out there on the market. I have taken Merida which I only lost like 10 pds in a month and only to gain it back plus a few extra pounds. I was very happy with my success with Phentermine. I lost 20 pounds in a month and still losing thanks to Phentermine 😉

Subj: Long term use of Phentermine
Date: 4/24/2005
Hi, I have been taking phentermine pretty consistently for about 4, maybe 5 years. I have never really had any problems with it, although the ones I have gotten over the internet haven’t been effective for weight control. I’m wondering if they are counterfeit or if my body is just too used to taking them. I take the 30 mg. and last week I just stopped taking them. I have been nauseated, extremely tired, headaches and just feeling really bad all week – what are the withdrawal symptoms if you stop suddenly after a long time taking them, and how long will this last? Thank you.

AskDocWeb: What you describe does sound like you are going through withdrawal. It was bound to happen sooner or later because this drug is not for long-term use. Your symptoms shouldn’t last much longer because you should be about to the end of the withdrawal process.

Subj: Love Phentermine
Date: 4/25/2005
I have been taking Phentermine for over a year. I have never felt better. I lost weight quickly and effortlessly. I am a mother of 6 and found my desire to take walks and work around the house increase. I haven’t had any bad side effects with this medication. I love it!

Subj: Good and Bad
Date: 4/28/2005
I highly recommend phentermine, I lost 40 pounds in less than 4 months! The only bad thing is, you do go through major withdrawals, I was exhausted by 4 PM when I wasn’t taking them anymore. Be careful and don’t take them for too long! But they work wonders!

Subj: How to stop gradually
Date: 4/29/2005
I have been taking phentermine 37.5 mgs for about 5 years… What are the long term side effects of this drug? How can I gradually stop taking this pill without gaining weight? Thanks…

AskDocWeb: The best way to stop taking this drug should be decided by your doctor based on your personal medical history and current condition.

Subj: Recommend but with warning
Date: 4/30/2005
I was given a 3 month prescription by my doctor to try and lower my cholesterol by losing weight. I am down to the last 4 pills and I have to say I am thriled and amazed by my results. In these three months I went from somewhere around 215(but shhh, we don’t admit to that) down to (as of today)166 so just shy of 50lbs gone. I am not sure mine was a typical result and it may have been boosted by my trying to be good about getting the cholesterol down. I can say though that other than the first day I didn’t feel any side effect other than the dry mouth. The appetite suppressent side of the pills was the strongest day to day effect I felt. I thought I had no appetite before I started and could go all day without it occurring to me to eat – that was nothing compared to the pills, I was never hungry and had to force myself to eat, and when I did eat it was a fraction of what I used to. Learning to eat (healthy & controlled) through the day even if you don’t feel hungry has been good and I even gave up all drinks other than water, as it was the only thing to combat he dry mouth (which probably also helped take off the pounds, and now if I try to drink anything sugary, it tastes horrible and makes me feel sick, my body keeping me in Line. I would recommend these pills, but only to someone with a true medical need as it seems that people who take it for appearance sake only are the ones who get hooked.

Subj: Pain in chest
Date: 5/2/2005
I started taking phentermine in 2003, and have taken it off and on for almost 2 years. I recently gave my body a break and I have started taking it again, but I’ve noticed that when I take it I have a slight pain in my left side upper chest area. Could I be experiencing some problems with my arteries? Should I go and get my heart checked by a physician?

AskDocWeb: Yes, any pains in the upper left side of your chest should be checked out by your physician.

Subj: Hair loss
Date: 5/1/2005
I have been taking phentermine for about three weeks now, and I have noticed that my hair is falling out a lot more then it use to. I know hair is suppose to fall out everyday, but I would say its doubled since taking the medication. Is this possible? Thanks,

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible but hair loss is not listed by the manufacturer as a side effect. You need to keep in mind that other things may be going on at the same time you are taking this drug. Changes in your thyroid, hormones and stress level all influence the rate at which you lose hair.

Subj: Irregular heart beat with Phentermine
Date: 5/3/2005
I took phentermine for only 2 weeks, and I quit taking it about 2 months ago because I began having anxiety like symptoms. The symptoms disappeared after about 3 days off the medication, but now, two months later, I’m having problems with and irregular heart beat. Could you tell me if there is any research on phentermine causing damage to the heart, so that after discontinuing the medication it causes irregular heart beats? I’m seeing my M.D. tomorrow, and I know he will want to know anything I have done in the last few months since he saw me, and the only thing that has changed is the fact that I took phentermine for 2 weeks. Also, I do not consume caffeine. Thank you.

AskDocWeb: Irregular heartbeat is listed as one of the side effects, one that you should let your doctor know about. We have no information on how long this symptom persists after discontinuing use.

Subj: Phentermine good for sinus problem
Date: 5/3/2005

I just finished my 3 month supply of phentermine with good success. I have lost 31 pounds. I’d actually like to lose another 25 pounds or so to get to my optimal body weight/BMI. I’ve had no problematic side-effects from taking the medication except for staying up too late at night. There has been one really beneficial side-effect though. I have fairly constant sinus congestion in which the cause has never been accurately determined. No decongestant or allergy medicine has ever been effective. However, phentermine has given me about 3 months of clear sinuses. It’s been 3 days now that I have been out of the medication and my sinuses are horrible once again! I’m going to wait 2 or three weeks and then begin taking phentermine again… I wish whatever is in phentermine that gives me clear sinuses could be released as sinus medication!
