Subj: Heart palpitations
Date: 7/30/2010
I have taken phentermine on and off for about a year…just on my 4th rx of it, never had any problems prior but the last few weeks I noticed my heart beating oddly. I dont know if it is that it beats hard once every now and then or just off maybe…not sure, but its getting more concerning. I read about heart palpitation just tonight..ahhhh….at what point do you have an emergency??? I am currently without health insurance but I am to the point where I feel this off hard beat every minute or every couple of minutes tonight. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Subj: I lost 10 lbs. but…
Date: 7/31/2010
I had been on the standard dose of phentermine for 1 week. I began to feel very tired. I cut the tab in half. I felt no better after the 2nd week when I stopped it altogether. Getting through a jazzercize class was torchure and it was hard to get through the day at work. I could hardly move. All I wanted to do was sleep. I’ve been off the med for 4 days now but the Sx’s have not fully resolved. I THINK I’m beginning to feel a LITTLE bit better. The stuff is scarey. I lost 10 lbs. but I’m not sure it was worth it.

Subj: Fatigue
Date: 8/2/2010
I have been taking phentermine for 3 months now. I started with the 15mg, 30mg and now 37.5mg; I felt tired on the 15mg, more on the 30, and now extreemly fatigue. I feel my dr. didn’t believe me, so I got on the internet to see if I was the only one who had these reactions. This webpage has been such a relief to me that others have felt the same way I do. Thank-you to all for the feedback . Your little bit of info helped me a great deal…

Susan
AskDocWeb: You are welcome Susan, and good luck.

Subj: Vaginal bleeding
Date: 8/2/2010
I just started taking phentermine on 7/31/10 and I started having vaginal bleeding today 8/1/10. I know it is not my period i had gotten over that a week ago, and I know I am not pregnant. Can you please let me know if this is normal? Thanks,

Larissa
AskDocWeb: Although there are several reports of changes in period attributed to Phentermine, persistent vaginal bleeding is not normal so check with your doctor.

Subj: Skin sensitive to my tanning
Date: 8/3/2010
Phentermine: I have always had great skin-i have used phentermine off and on for a few years and had great results with it as far as keeping the appetite suppressed. However, I’ve noticed lately that my skin has become very sensitive to my tanning habit and I am much more prone to heat rashes every time I get in the bed-primarily on my neck, back of neck and my face. All places where my skin is thin. I can only contribute this to the use of phentermine. It doesnt seem to affect me when I am not taking it however it seems to take a couple weeks to get the drug out of my system to actually see the improvement.

Subj: Mouth drooping
Date: 8/5/2010

LARRY
AskDocWeb: That is not common and not listed as a side effect of Phentermine. However, it is one of the symptoms of a stroke so contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Subj: Stretch marks
Date: 8/6/2010
I’v been using Phentermine 37.5 for about 2 months. I’ve lost weight, but seems as the more that I’m losing weight, stretch marks are appearing on my inner thighs, stomach, legs, and arms. I’m confused. Are stretch marks part of Phentermine’s 37.5 side effect? I have another friend who is also taking Phentermine 37.5, and she is going through the same situation. Is there a solution to this effect? Please help!

Mai
AskDocWeb: Stretch marks are not a side effect of Phentermine but they do appear on may people who undergo rapid or significant weight loss. They are caused when the skin changes shape too quickly. Intense physical activity, bodybuilding, pregnancy, and sometimes puberty can also cause stretch marks. Getting rid of stretch marks is not a difficult task, but it will take patience and persistence on your part. The three most important things to remember are:

  • Drinking a sufficient amount of water is critical, because this ensures that your body and tissues are properly hydrated. It also helps remove toxins from your body.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Eating foods rich in essential fatty acids, protein, and citrus rich foods like fruits, nuts and vegetables, helps maintain tight, soft, healthy skin.
  • Keep your skin well moisturized with vitamins and essential oils, and moisturize several times a day.

It is also helpful to massage your stretch marks by using strong circular motions and massage 2 to 3 times a day if possible.

Subj: Is it safe?
Date: 8/6/2010
Hi I’m 20 yr. I weight 240 is it safe for me to that Phentermine and has anyone died from taking this drug?

Mauro
AskDocWeb: Your doctor needs to evaluate your current condition and medical history before deciding if it would be safe for you or not. There are no reports of deaths caused by Phentermine when it used as instructed.

Subj: Theophylline and Phentermine
Date: 8/11/2010
Need to know if phentermine interacts with Theo-24 (theophylline)?. Month was awesome! I lost 8 pounds! That is 1 pound a week – very healthy. But it is now the z.

Nicole
AskDocWeb: Theophylline interacts with more than 70 other drugs and Phentermine interacts with over 200 other drugs but it looks like they don’t interact with each other.

Subj: Allergic reaction
Date: 8/12/2010
I took Phentermine 1 time and have took a allergic reaction. Mostly on my legs are welps and it itches. Is this a normal affect?

AskDocWeb: No, although allergic reactions are rare with Phentermine they do sometime occur. If you suspect that you are having an allergic reaction, contact your doctor or seek immediate medical attention.

Subj: Monthly blood work
Date: 8/12/2010
I am currently taking lupron shots for my endometriosis. I also have polycystic which makes me gain weight and I work out 5 days a week 2 days with a trainer and the other 3 training for a 60 mile walk. I eat healthy but no matter what I do the weight isn’t coming off. I’ve searched and phentermine doesn’t have a effect on the lupron shot but I also have to have monthly blood work done. Will phentermine show up on the blood work?

Rachael
AskDocWeb: If they are looking for it, yes Phentermine will show up on a blood test. On urine drug tests Phentermine has been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for amphetamines or ecstasy (Ref: 3, 4, 11)

Subj: Chance of gaining back the weight lost
Date: 8/15/2010
Hi, I would like to know if I am going to loose about 50 pound, when I stop I am not going to gain back fast?

Laura
AskDocWeb: That depends on how much you increase your physical activity and what lifestyle changes you make. If lifestyle changes are not made then there is a good chance of gaining back all the weight that was lost.

Subj: Dizziness
Date: 8/16/2010
I’ve been using Phentermine for about 2 months now.. I took a pill on 8/13/10 and and didin’t eat any breaksfast, but did eat a lil something in the afternoon. Have done it before.. On this particular day, i started to get a hurting in my chest area.. not so much as pain, just a hurting that felt like indigestion.. Anywho, i took some gingerale down and that kind of release the hurting feeling. But all of a sudden i got this dizziness thing going on and still got it even after going to the Hospital for them to pump 2 things of fluid in me.. The doctor said i was extremely dehydrated.. What can i do to get rid of this dizziness.. I still have it.

Karen
AskDocWeb: Dizziness is the most common symptom of dehydration. This often happens to those who are dieting and don’t drink enough water.

Subj: Vyvanse
Date: 8/17/2010
I have been on phentermine for the last couple of months, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and the prescription Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) was prescribed to me, do I have to wait a certain amount of time without taking the phentermine before I start taking Vyvanse or is it ok to stop one today and start the other one the next day?

Addie
AskDocWeb: You need to check with your doctor to find out what is safe for you to do. Both of these drugs are stimulants so taking them together would be somewhat like doubling up on either one. The rate at which Phentermine is eliminated from the body varies from one person to the next. The half-life ranges from 16 to 31 hours, which means that it could take up to 7 days for the drug to completely clear your system.

Subj: Back pain
Date: 8/19/2010
Hi. I have been taking phentermine for a week and two days and lost 7 pounds but yesterday my back started hurting really bad between my shoulder blades…is this normal?

Danielle
AskDocWeb: A few people have reported back pain when taking Phentermine but it is not listed among the “officially recognized” side effects. Those reporting back pain said that it occurred mid-back at the bra line. Is that true for you?

Subj: Stimulants
Date: 8/20/2010
Been using pheterimine for about 3 weeks… lost about 7 pounds and love it! I was just wondering, I’ve been experiencing horrible fatigue for like a year and a half, I’m only 26 and was only like 20 pounds overweight so dont think obesity was my fatigue problem. Anyway, I have felt more like myself than I have in years, is there a diagnosis in which a med similar to phenterimine is used? I dont want to ask my doctor and he think I want the “good stuff” or something, just wondering if this might help me figure out whats been wrong with me! I’ve been thinking clearer, my emotional status is more level, dont want to cry when the alarm goes off LOL and better concentration.

Meg
AskDocWeb: Phentermine is an amphetamine-like stimulate, which works on the central nervous system and hypothalamus. Stimulants are used to treat both physical and psychological disorders. The most common ones are asthma, attention-deficit disorder (ADD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and narcolepsy.

Subj: Sore back, breast and swollen lymph nodes
Date: 8/20/2010
I’ve been on Phentermine for 2 weeks and I’m having soreness in back and breast and my lymph nodes are swollen could this be a side effect? thanks,

Katie
AskDocWeb: No, swollen lymph nodes are a sign of either bacterial or viral infection. A few others have reported back pain but it is not listed as a possible side effect of Phentermine. Read more feedback from users.
