Subj: The last 20 pounds of baby weight
Date: 9/15/2010
This is the best thing I’ve ever taken. I recently had a baby and I just couldnt lose the last 20 pounds of baby weight. I was nervous about side effects. But I found none! Except the boost of energy! Which is what I needed. I never sleep cause I have so much to do while the baby is in bed. So yeah I’m still tired in the morning but once that pill kicks in then I feel great. Makes me want to exercize. I’m using this to make a life style change. Right now I’m following a 1600 based diet and this helps me stay within my range. It really is a miracle. I use to think diet pills that actually work were just a myth! boy was I wrong!!! This is great. Perfect for me at least.

AskDocWeb: In general it takes about 5 half-lives for a drug to completely leave your system. The half-life of Phentermine ranges between 16 and 31 hours so that means it could take up to 7 days to be completely free of it. The good news is that the effects are transient, which means that they do go away.
Subj: Stopped losing weight
Date: 9/20/2010
I have been taking phentermine for about a year off and on, I lost 14 pounds the first 2 months then I haven’t been able to lose a pound since? I workout at least 3 times a week for an hour to two hours? Please Help?
Doreen
AskDocWeb: When what you are doing is no longer working, maybe it is time to alter your approach. When your weight loss efforts reach a plateau there are a few things you can do besides going back to your doctor. Reaching a plateau means that your energy expenditure is equal to the amount of your caloric/energy intake. To lose weight you either decrease your caloric intake with a change in diet or increase your energy expenditure. The latter can be done in two ways, either by increasing the intensity of the workouts or increasing the frequency of the workouts. Of course if you have any health issues you should have your doctor’s okay on the workouts.
Subj: Thyroid medication
Date: 9/21/2010
I have Thyroids been on medication for about 10 yrs and gained over 100lbs. I have tried with every doctor I have gone to to prescribe some type of weight loss medication and I have been constantly told try calorie counting, exercise more blah, blah, blah. I have tried everything you name it. I’ve gone to the gym, workout outside home, weight watchers, Alli, Slim Fast, workout videos you name it and still I’ve not loss weight. I know it’s because of the thyroids medication. My question is where can I go other that weight loss clinic to get a doctor to prescribe me this pill everyone is talking about. I am not trying to go to a weight loss clinic so they can charge me a arm and a leg for this drug. Please someone Help!!!! I am in the Atlanta, GA area.

AskDocWeb: Thyroid medication by itself shouldn’t cause weight gain. However, the weight gain may indicate that the hormone levels produced by the thyroid may be off. If that is the case then the dosage of the thyroid medication might need to be adjusted.
Subj: High blood pressure
Date: 9/22/2010
i was taking phentermine on and off for two years with close monitoring by my doctor. I lost five pounds but then notice my blood pressure was getting higher and higher. I was taken off the medicine and now my blood pressure has not gone down. I now am taking lesinoprol for hbp. that drug was definitely not worth getting high blood pressure. I was stupid to take it. I only weighed 135 and five pounds loss cost me my health. don’t do it.

Hi, I have been taking phentermine for about two weeks now, I have noticed that I have lost about 9 pounds so far and not feeling so hungry anymore but the side effect is really effecting me. I’ve been having a hard time to use the restroom and also have spots of blood every time I try to go to the bathroom. What can I do? Help please…I really want to lose more weight but then I’m starting to have doubts about taking this medications.

AskDocWeb: Any difficulty is using the restroom should be reported to your doctor as well as any unusual bleeding.
Subj: Dry mouth and constipation
Date: 9/25/2010
I have been taking Pherntermine for about 3 1/2 months. The only side effects that I have noticed is dry mouth at times and some constipation. I had also started a regular exercise routine – 15 to 30 minutes a day – 7 days a week. I have lost about 25 pounds ( from 172 to 147 and feel very fit and energetic. I have noticed a nice increase in energy level and am getting a lot done at work that I had been behind in. I have just read that this is very addicting and am now worried that I need to get off of it. How do I begin to cut back – or do I just stop taking them. I only take 1 per day. i do sleep a little less – but don’t mind that at all!

AskDocWeb: If you use Phentermine continuously for several weeks, you may experience withdrawal effects if you stop taking it suddenly. Talk to your doctor about how you should go about stopping this medication.
Subj: Warfarin with Phentermine?
Date: 9/29/2010
Is warfarin safe with this pill?
Tiffany
AskDocWeb: There are no drug interactions between Phentermine and Warfarin but to find out if it is safe for you, you would have to check with your doctor.
Subj: Leg cramps
Date: 9/30/2010
I started taking the phentermine about 3 weeks ago and lost 7 pounds, but I am experiencing leg cramps and I think this is because my potassium is low. Other than this I feel good.

Subj: Lexapro with phentermine?
Date: 9/30/2010
Hi, I have recently started to take the phentermine again, I was prescribed it a year ago. I am currently on Lexapro 40 mg for anxiety and halcion nightly to sleep, is it ok to take my medications with phentermine.
Bebe
AskDocWeb: Phentermine is typically NOT used with Lexapro (escitalopram). In general, appetite suppressants such as Phentermine are not combined with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). When they must be used together, the manufacturer recommends close monitoring for possible serotonin syndrome. Symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include mental status changes such as hallucinations, irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, coma, tachycardia, hyperthermia, shivering, blood pressure lability, diaphoresis, hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, rigidity, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In one case, a patient reported experiencing jitteriness, racing thoughts, stomach cramps, dry eyes, palpitations, tremors, and restlessness following a single dose of Phentermine taken approximately one week after she had discontinued the SSRI.
Subj: Gastric bypass
Date: 9/30/2010
I had gastric bypass in Oct of last year. Is it ok to take phentermine?
Katie
AskDocWeb: Gastric bypass by itself is not a counterindication for using phentermine. However, don’t expect the drug to do all the work. It is helpful to think of Phentermine as a tool you use while leaning to eat better. It’s a little like using training wheels while learning to ride a bicycle. Once you learn to make better choices about eating and exercise, you no longer need the pills.
Subj: Lump feeling in throat and headache
Date: 11/12/2010
I have been taking Phentermine 37.5 for almost 2 months now. I noticed that I started to get this lump feeling in my throat or as if it is swollen or tighter than usual on my 3rd week. Also, I’ve had this painful pressure right above my right eyebrow. I’m almost confident that it is from the phentermine because I stopped taking the pills for a week to see if these feelings would go away, fortunately it did. I started the pills again, and the pain on eyebrow and tightness in throat came back right away. Is this normal? Could this be a side effect? Is there something I can do to prevent this? I am very happy with my results as I have lost 17 pounds in 2 months, but these unusual feelings are becoming very concerning. Please advise. Thank you.
Maggie
AskDocWeb: A tightness in the throat may indicate the beginnings of a breathing problem. That and the headaches are listed as possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor. Read more feedback from users.
