Subj: What age group?
Date: 12/4/2010
What age group can take this rx? I have used before and lost 21 lbs in 4 weeks. It was verfy hard to stop taking because my weight would go back up. You need to continue to learn to eat less and eat healthy. You are on a high and can become dependant before you know it! Stay in control. See your dr. Timely.

AskDocWeb: Phentermine is not recommended for use by children under the age of 16 years old. Like many prescription drugs, Phentermine has not been tested with older or elderly patients.

Subj: Very concerned
Date: 12/5/2010
I had not seen my son for 15 months since being overseas. Upon coming back to the states, I found my beautiful son weighing over 230 pounds for his height (8.5)? – Then, this usually very gentle character bursted one day totally out of control as he was coming from his very hectic night job as a hotel concierge. He was full of extreme anger then went to sleep till his new schedule for class. He calmed down two days later as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened, didn’t want to recall so didn’t really want to apologize for his temper tantrums, however he then experienced horrible headaches described as a pain reaching behind his neck and ending to his congested sinuses. Sensations of vomiting which he does every morning upon waking up and a back throat full of some irritating polyps? or something there encumbering his esophagus path? I nosed around his room and discovered he had been prescribed Penthermine. I am very very concerned as his mom. Should I tell his live in girlfriend about my discoveries and serious concern or is this going to be generating an overboard crisis? Mom in desperation not knowing what to do.

Marie

AskDocWeb: Your concern about your son’s side effects is appropriate. Headaches and nausea are listed as possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to the prescribing doctor as these may indicate a serious problem. Please note that this website does not deal with relationship problems.

Subj: Phentermine dosage
Date: 12/7/2010
My wife has been on phentermine for about 2 1/2 months. She was at 238 when she started now she is 198(due to the pills, diet and exercise). Her dosage is at 37.5 currently. She has had abdominal cramping like it is her cycle. What should her dosage be now? Thank you,

JD

AskDocWeb: That is up to her doctor. However, since the body has a tendency to build up a tolerance for this drug, it is unlikely that her doctor would decrease the dosage unless the side effects become unacceptable.

Subj: Sores on tongue
Date: 12/8/2010
I get really bad sores on my tongue…is that normal…they go away and come back..is there something I can do about it.. I tried going off but I am premeno and I am on it mainly for the energy and the little weight that I have lost..but gained back since I went off..so I am takin them again..Thanks,

AskDocWeb: Sores on the tongue are not normal and should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Excessive vaginal bleeding
Date: 12/9/2010
I’ve been takin phentermine for about 2 months now n was wondering if this drug is the cause of my excessive vaginal bleeding. I’ve been bleeding now for 10 days straight and its been heavy the entire time. This is not at all normal 2 me I’m actually starting to freak out because of the diff stuff I’ve read on the web associated wit all this bleeding. Could phentermine be one of the causes for this longer than usual timeframe I’ve been bleeding?

Excessive Vaginal Bleeding

AskDocWeb: Several women have reported that Phentermine caused changes in their menstrual period but it sounds like this should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: DO NOT DRINK
Date: 12/12/2010
Well, I have lost weight slowly. But it is coming off. One thing I will tell you though…DO NOT DRINK when you are on the medication. I had a couple of glasses of wine one evening and didn’t eat anything before going to bed. (I had eaten around 5:00 pm) The next day I woke up with a horrible headache as though I had had a whole bottle of wine and as the day went on, got sicker, throwing up until my muscles began to ache. It lasted for two and a half days. And I didn’t fell normal again for a week. Be careful!!

Subj: Wanting to munch feeling
Date: 12/13/2010
I have taken ephedrine for years in the form of primeatine. I have just started Phentermine last week. The first day I took it, I loved it. It killed my appetite. The second day with was the same along with the 3rd and fourth days. I drink 3 or four cups of coffee just because I always do. Yesterday and today which would be the 5th and 6th day it seemed not to work as well. I seem to be able to eat anything, have the muchies as always later in the day. The feeling is not as strong. I thought the “wanting to munch” feeling was going to go totally away. I am taking 35.7 pill. The energy is even a lot less today. I felt sleepy today at work. Am I doing something wrong? Advise if you can… Thanks.

Johnathan

AskDocWeb: The increase in energy lasts only until your body becomes accustomed to the Phentermine. This drug does NOT completely eliminate your appetite, it just reduces it so that you have more control over when and how much you eat.

Subj: Phentermine on and off?
Date: 12/16/2010
Can phentermine be taken on and off. your off for 3 months and then start for one week and off again for another couple weeks.

Page

AskDocWeb: Several people have tried that and reported that it doesn’t work very well. The body has a tendency to build up a tolerance for the drug over a period of about 3 months and it stops working for weight loss. Taking a week or a month off allows the body to become responsive to the drug again. However, the tolerance takes less time to redevelop the second time, and even less time to develop the third time it is used.

Subj: Swelling and burning
Date: 12/17/2010
I have been on phentermine for about three weeks and the inner right thigh is swollen and burning. I’ve had an ultra sound done on my thighs and they found nothing. It is very uncomfortable and beginning to be painful with the burning sensation. I noticed some one else posted that back in 2005 and the response back said separate situation but I’m beggining to think not. I have not lost any weight so far and I’m tracking what I’m eating and practice yoga six times a week.

Cassandra

AskDocWeb: The patient information for Phentermine says that any swelling of the legs, ankles, or feet should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible.

Subj: It’s not worth it

Subj: Response to my Boob always hurts by Alyssia
Date: 12/27/2010
I have been on Pherntermine for about 8 month. I lost 23 pounds but after about 4 month my left breast started to get tender. After skipping a month now both of my breasts are sore. I had a breast exam and mammogram and both checked out fine. Like you I feel it has to do with the Pherntermine. Just because it’s not listed as one of the main side effects does not mean it could not be related to it. Please if you experience the same thing let us know.

Subj: Shortness of breath
Date: 12/27/2010
I have been taking phentermine for about 3 months now. I went to a diet doctor who gave it to me. I don’t have a history of high blood pressure, heart problems, etc., but about 2-3 weeks after taking it I’m starting to experience shortness of breath. I have a history of getting shortness of breath sometimes after change of seasons. I went to the doctor for this and they said I might have a very mild case of seasonal asthma, but I notice I been getting it right after I take the pill and on the days that i don’t take the pill I won’t have it. I work at a hospital so I take by blood pressure when i have it and my blood pressure is always fine. Do you know if this the phentermine or possibly from asthma?

Brit

AskDocWeb: That is difficult to determine when both the disease and the medication are known to produce the same symptom. However, the fact that the symptom only shows up when you take the Phentermine makes it highly suspect.

Subj: Phentermine after a miscarriage?
Date: 12/28/2010
I’m recovering from a misscarrage how long should I wait before taking phenterine? I’m really ready to lose weight.

Diamond

AskDocWeb: Although you may never stop thinking about the miscarriage, it does get easier. Physically many women recover within a few days to a week or so. It depends on how far along the pregnancy was at the time of the miscarriage.

Subj: Headache and blurred vision
Date: 12/28/2010
I have been taking phentermine 37.5 mg for about 4 days now. I have had a headache and blurred vision… related to the prescription I am thinking? Should I stop taking this?

Vicky

AskDocWeb: Severe headaches and blurred vision are symptoms of very high blood pressure so check with your doctor. If at any time you experience a side effect that you do not understand or is a concern, do not hesitate to call your doctor for advice.

Subj: Severely depressed and suicidal
Date: 1/6/2011

Subj: Mood changes
Date: 1/8/2011
Hello, my wife has been taking these pills and I’m afraid our marriage is heading for an end because she has turned into another person. She’s always mad at everything and keeps telling me she hates me. It’s like a different persons is controller her, I really think she should come off of these pills. She’s not over weight just wants to lose 15 pounds which is nothing with a little change in the diet. Has anyone else have problems with their mood changing? Thanks,

James

AskDocWeb: Yes, others have run into mood changes like this and coping with it can be very challenging. Mood changes are listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to the prescribing doctor. Read more feedback from users.
