Subj: I’m in pain!
Date: 2/21/2011
I have been using phentermine I have been prescribed through a physician at medical weight loss center. I have lost 30 lbs in 3 months, but the benefits from the phentermine is wearing off. I’ve also had joint and tendon pain that is getting worse, which brings me to this website. In fairness, I already had some issues, but they have gone from simply annoying to non-functional. I’m in pain! Should I wean off or simply stop? I started 3 months ago at a half tab a day. I now take one each morning. I have to say, though, while on phentermine I’ve been more productive. Besides concern about gaining weight back, I hate to think about going back to couch potato status. And I gave away all my fat clothes with 15 lbs to go.

AskDocWeb: It is important to talk to your doctor about what kind of pain you feel and where it is located as this may indicate a problem. Phentermine is known to lose its effectiveness over time. Please don’t make the mistake of trying to increase the effectiveness by increasing the dose. That only increases the risk of serious side effects and possible dependency on the drug.
Subj: Why won’t it work for me?
Date: 2/22/2011
I started Phentermin last November and I haven’t lost a dang thing!! Why won’t it work for me? I want to lose 20 pounds, I am 61. I am very disappointed!!
Kristine
AskDocWeb: This drug is intended to be used with a healthy diet and an exercise program. Are you trying to lose weight by just taking the pill? For most people, just using the pill alone, without changing the diet and exercising, will not produce acceptable results.
Please note the difference between Phentermin and Phentermine. Phentermin is a supplement that contains hoodia. Phentermine is a prescription drug that does not contain hoodia.
Subj: This product works!
Date: 2/24/2011
I started taking the phentermine two days ago. I was skeptical, afraid it would be a lot like the other dietary supplements, but to my suprize, it helped with food cravings, and stress eating. I could curve my meal intake, without feeling hungry. I love pasta, and I had one cup with a half cup of sauce, and didn’t feel guilty about not eating more. I could always have more another day. Also, I have more energy. In the past three years, I went through a stressful, grief period when I lost a few family members, and my libido went out the door. I didn’t realize how bad it was, until, well no other way to put it, other then “It’s back!” and better then ever!!! I Love how good the product works!

Clare
AskDocWeb: There is a whole list of questions that need answered before you can decide if Phentermine would be a wise choice for you or not. However, since anxiety and depression are both possible side effects of Phentermine it seems unlikely.
Subj: Tinnitus
Date: 2/24/2011
I also have experienced severe tinnitus after using phentermine. I have had great success for weight loss, but I quit taking it after having “googled,” tinnitus and phentermine, and found others with the same problem. I thought it would go away, but I still have it and it has been at least 3 weeks since I quit taking it. Any other information would be appreciated. Thanks.
KATHY
AskDocWeb: It is common to assume that a symptom is caused by a newly started medication but that is not always the case. Sometimes unrelated problems develop while taking a drug. That is not to say that this is true in your case, just that it is possible. The exact cause of tinnitus is unknown but there are known triggers.
Subj: Feeling cold with tingles
Date: 2/25/2011
I just started phentermine and have been taking it for three days. Feels like I have cold water running in my veins. My hands and feet are cold and my left arm tingles. Should I be concerned?
Summer
AskDocWeb: Any time someone says that their left arm tingles we think of heart problems so that would be the first thing to check. Both low blood sugar and low blood pressure can cause that feeling of cold water running through the veins, which are also reasons to consult with your doctor.
Subj: Rash on my chest
Date: 2/26/2011
I just started taking Phentermine today. I started getting a rash on my chest in the after noon and I just noticed I have rash on my face. Started getting a bit itchy. Could this be from the Phentermine?
Irene
AskDocWeb: The symptoms of a severe allergic reactions include rash and itching so check with your doctor right away.

Subj: No energy and feel cold
Date: 3/1/2011
I’ve been on phentermine for about 10 days and i feel cold all the time and have no energy whatsoever. When i do try to do something, i feel short of breath. It does suppress my appetite very well. But what i want to know is why it gives so much energy to other people but not me?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: It may be the same reason that some people have allergies while others do not. You may not be as sensitive as most people are to the effects of this drug. If that is the case then you are likely to build up a tolerance for it faster than the average individual. Both low blood sugar and low blood pressure can cause your body to feel cold so you might want to ask your doctor if those are things that you need to watch.
Subj: Increased and prolonged bleeding
Date: 3/4/2011
I take fastin as prescribed by my doctor but in order to not become dependent on it she has asked men to take it 5 days a week and skip two days a week allowing a thirty day prescription to go 6 weeks. I started taking it on January 7 2011. The first 6 weeks I dropped 22.8 pounds! This go around the weight loss is significantly less. I am only into the second week of the second six week cycle. I noticed however that I haven’t stopped my period since then. My cycle began on January 7 ironically enough and I had a brief pause from the 21-25 of January before bleeding began again. It is WAY heavier and I’m going through a ton of tampons and pads. I am also having trouble sleeping through the night. Is that a side effect of this drug…the increased and prolonged bleeding?
Rizzo
AskDocWeb: Although it is not listed among the side effects, several women have reported that Phentermine caused changes in their menstrual period and excessive vaginal bleeding. When in doubt, check with your doctor. Remember that Phentermine acts as a stimulant so taking it too close to bedtime can interfere with sleep.
Subj: Many health issues
Date: 3/6/2011
I was on Phentermine June 2005 a week later I started having many health problems. Started like a jet flew into my head, then clammy hands, felt like I was going to pass out and many other health issues. This drug in my opinion should be taken off market, it is very dangerous. I was healthy until then.

Subj: Flu-like body aches
Date: 3/6/2011
i have been takin phentermine for 4 days and the past 2 days i am having body aches feels like i have the flu is that normal?
Jessica
AskDocWeb: No, that is not normal nor is it typical. Phentermine has a long list of side effects but that isn’t one of them so check with your doctor.
Subj: Booster medication?
Date: 3/7/2011
I’m am taking phentermine hydrochlori 37.5 mg and I’m in my 10th day and I am so hungry. Is there a booster medication that I can take along with the med I’m already on to hel with this problem? I really need help with controlling my appetite.
Tiymeako
AskDocWeb: If it isn’t working as well as you want then check back with your doctor. Remember that using more than the prescribed amount can cause an overdose. The symptoms of an overdose include abnormal behavior, aggressiveness, an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; throat closing up; swelling of your tongue, lips, or face; or hives), confusion, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, nausea, panic, rapid breathing, restlessness, seizures, tremor, very high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision), diarrhea, and vomiting. An overdose requires emergency medical attention.
Subj: Here’s hoping Phentermine helps
Date: 3/7/2011
I have an appointment with my doctor today to ask for a prescription for phentermine. I cannot cope with my bulimia and weight gain any longer. Depression is kicking in and I have exhausted all other resources/options. I hope this will free me from my hell with food, binging, bulimia and weight problems.

Subj: Hair loss
Date: 3/9/2011
I am having hair lose and have been taking this on and off and off for about a year now. Is that a side effect?
Nina
AskDocWeb: Hair loss is not listed as an officially recognized side effect of Phentermine. However, others using Phentermine have reported hair thinning. It is also known that just the stress of dieting can also causes hair loss.

Date: 3/9/2011
I have overative bladder and have been taking Phentermine(generic for Adipex) and have notice my over ative bladder is gotten worser. does adipex have caffine?
