Subj: Phentermine success story
Date: 4/5/2011
I have been taking phentermine 37.5mg. for the past 3 months. So far I have went from 196 lbs. to 165 lbs. and I’m only 5’2″. More importantly than the weight loss is it has helped me with bulimia. I have been bulimic since I was 17 yrs. old and am now 45 yrs. old. No one can possibly know the shame and toll bulimia has on a person unless they’ve experienced it. A person such as I has no control over the binges and sometimes I can binge and purge as much as 5-6 times a day. Every single time I do it I promise myself it is the last time and then I would find myself raiding the freezer or my kids after school snacks or absolutely anything due to this horrible addiction. I kicked the bulimia cycle once before with the help of phentermine and went a few years with very few episodes.

While taking phentermine I have complete control and eat extremely healthy. I have found that since taking it the last 3 months I actually crave healthy foods and don’t even want foods that I would have eaten otherwise on a binge. I am under the supervision of a doctor and have had no adverse side effects. Thank God! I will only take it until I get to a normal weight and by then I am confident that I can continue to eat healthy without binging and purging without the phentermine. I can only say that phentermine has been a lifesaver for me!

Binging and purging is not something you discuss with your family and friends and can be costly, very time consuming, and embarrassing when you have to make up excuses for large quantities of food going missing. It may not be for everyone but I thank God for phentermine as it has definitely given me my life back and I will fight to keep on the right track when I stop taking it. The health problems related to obesity to me far outweigh any possible side effects from phentermine in the long run, but then I haven’t had anything negative happen to me from using phentermine. It’s all been positive!!!

Subj: UTI, discomfort and abdominal pain
Date: 4/6/2011
I had a UTI and stopped taking phentermine. I finished the antibiotic on Monday (2 rounds) and I had no symptoms. Tuesday I took phentermine. My stomach feels a lot of pressure and I am peeing constantly again. I know this is normal but every 30 minutes? Some pain in kidneys but very slight. I have a kidney stone that was detected several years ago but doesn’t bother me. Could the discomfort and abdominal pain be from the phentermine? I also take Xyzal.

Kim

AskDocWeb: It is not unusual to experience stomach upset when first starting Phentermine. However, peeing every 30 minutes is not normal and should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: I crash by lunch time
Date: 4/6/2011
I have started taking phentermine and I feel energy for about two hours then I crash by lunch time and am so exhausted! What could be going wrong?

Kelsi

AskDocWeb: Several people have had similar experiences with Phentermine. One way that users report coping with this is to take half in the morning and the other half just after noon to keep from crashing. Sometimes the reason for feeling tired is that you aren’t getting enough exercise. Feeling fatigue is also a symptom of dehydration, not drinking enough water.

Subj: How long will it take to leave my system?
Date: 4/8/2011
I have a question if i took 37.5mg Phentermine once a day for three days how long will it take to leave my system and will it she up as a amphetemine?

Rocks

AskDocWeb: The half-life of Phentermine ranges from 16 to 31 hours, which means that most of it would be out of your system in 7 days. On urine drug tests Phentermine has been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for amphetamines or ecstasy (Ref: 3, 4, 11)

Subj: Diarrhea, profuse sweating, and nausea
Date: 4/9/2011
Hi, I had been taking Phentermine for about 3 days when I awoke one morning and had a sudden onset of diarrhea, profuse sweating, and nausea. The feeling went away within a half an hour. My question is, could this have been related to the Phentermine even though I hadn’t taken a pill for close to 24 hours prior to this episode? I wasn’t sure if the affects were delayed or if this was an isolated incident related to something else. Thank you for any feedback!

Kelli

AskDocWeb: This drug takes a lot longer than 24 hours to clear your system. The diarrhea and nausea are known side effects of Phentermine but sweating is not. Since it lasted less than a half-hour it could have been an isolated incident caused by something you ate.

Subj: Constipation?
Date: 4/16/2011
I have been taken Phentermine 37.5 for 6 days now along with Ferrous Sulf 325mg, Prevpac and cyanocobalam 1000MCG INJ. I have always had a daily bowel movement and now I’m not. I was wondering if I can take a stool softener to help from getting consitpation? I just took my last dose of Prevpac yesterday.

Sara

AskDocWeb: Constipation is listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor. Of course a stool softener may help relieve constipation but it does not address the cause. Are you drinking lots of water? That seems to help many. Other things that are helpful when dealing with constipation are adding fiber to the diet, Guava (eaten with seeds), pears, bael fruit, oranges, papaya, figs, and prunes.

Subj: About vaginal bleeding
Date: 4/17/2011
I would like to know have anyone experience vagnial bleeding while taking Phentermine. I been taking phentermine for a while, and nothing like this has ever happen to me. I’m just wondering if anyone had to this issue before.

Bee

AskDocWeb: Although it is not listed among the side effects, several women have reported that Phentermine caused changes in their menstrual period including excessive vaginal bleeding. When in doubt, check with your doctor.

Subj: Change in period
Date: 4/17/2011
hey, I started taking the phentermine pill Feb 2011 I gotten my period on time in March but I have not received it yet for April my cycle is faithful every month on the 10 I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and they both where negative what could be the problem this is really killing me some days I take the phentermine and some days I dont.

Latoya

AskDocWeb: This can be pretty hard on the nerves, especially when your periods have been faithfully regular for some time. The changes in menstruation reported by Phentermine users include both early and late periods.

Subj: Sores on tongue
Date: 4/21/2011
I have also been taking phentermine and am experiencing sores on tongue and swelling of tongue. Very painful. I’ve looked at other boards and this seems to be very common. Most say they have extreme dry mouth, which I have also experienced. I haven’t taken pills for 2 days and pain has diminished already.

Subj: Edgy, irritable, and can’t sleep
Date: 4/22/2011
Please help! I am taking phentermine and I loosing weight but I am terribly edgy, irritable, can start or finish anything and cant sleep. Can I take something to help eliminate those side effects. I really need to loose weight.

Yvonne

AskDocWeb: Any side effects that you find unacceptable should be discussed with your doctor. All three of your symptoms have been reported with Phentermine. Remember that this medicine does stimulate the central nervous system. Agitation, irritability, nervousness, and sleeplessness typically decrease over time as the body adjusts to the medication.

Subj: Sweats and dizzy
Date: 4/24/2011

Summer

AskDocWeb: Dizziness is listed under the possible side effects that should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Over the counter medicine similar to Phentermine?
Date: 4/25/2011
I have been taking Phentermine on and off for about 1 year. I have recently buckled down and started a regular exercise program. I have lost about 15 lbs. and since then I went to my doctor to get a refill on my pills, I took the 37.5mg. My doctor won’t prescribe them to me any more because I have lost enough weight to where I don’t qualify for them any more. I loved them not only because it curved my appetite but it gave me lots of energy and being a mother of 2 and working 3 hrs a day overnight I needed that boost to keep up with my kids.
Is there any over the counter medicine that is similar to Phentermine that has been tested and as long as used correctly is “safe”.
I recently tried one over the counter medicine and I feel like my heart is beating out of my chest and I am very shaky, I never felt like that with Phentermine. I don’t want to cause myself any health risks but I feel like a zombie without them and I notice I eat more than I use to. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer

AskDocWeb: Sorry Jennifer, there isn’t any over the counter medicine that is similar to Phentermine. As you have discovered, ordinary over-the-counter stimulants do not have the same effect. Have you read the article about cravings?

Subj: Lump in throat and heavy breath
Date: 5/3/2011
