Subj: Phentermine dosage?
Date: 7/6/2011
I’ve been on 1/4 of a pill in the morning and 1/4 of a pill in the afternoon and I feel like it’s built up in my system to the point where I need a break. I’ve only been on it about a week but it jacks me up tremendously. I couldn’t do the 1/2 of a pill… had to go down to 1/4. Is this ok to take it this way? I also feel like I need to take a day off maybe every other day or every two days.. do you have patients that do that and continue with success? Thank you for serious feedback on this. I feel like I’m not a normal type patient since I’m so sensative to this. But I am sensative to most things.. so it’s no surprise. Thank you for your feedback.

Christina

AskDocWeb: Phentermine comes in different strength dosages; 15 mg, 30 mg, and 37.5 mg and in both capsules and pills. The pills with score line across the middle are designed to make splitting easier. If you are on the higher dosage you might talk to your doctor about using a lower dosage until your body adjusts. To be safe, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor before changing your dosage.

Subj: Phentermine with piroxicam?
Date: 7/25/2011
Can you take phentermine while taking piroxicam 20mg?

Frank

AskDocWeb: While there are no drug interactions listed for these two drugs (in our database) you would have to consult with your doctor to find out if this combination would be appropriate for your particular situation. Piroxicam is in a class of medications called NSAIDs, which is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints).

Subj: Can Phentermine cause acne?
Date: 7/28/2011
I’ve been taking Phentermine for about 4 months. Can this cause acne. I noticed acne developing on my back, face and neck. Please let me know if this medicine can cause acne.

Michele

AskDocWeb: Although acne is not listed among the officially recognized side effects of Phentermine some people have reported getting pimples, cystic acne, zits, and oily skin. The only dermatologic side effect listed is urticaria, which is an allergic reaction (hives) characterized by welts with pale interiors and well-defined red margins.

Subj: Blood clotting disorder – safe to take phentermine?
Date: 7/28/2011
I am wondering if it is safe to take phentermine. I have a blood clotting disorder (protein c deficiency) and have had 2 serious blood clots in my legs which has resulted in decreased circulation and swelling in them. I have 35 pounds to lose and am physically active. thank you.

Kate

AskDocWeb: Sorry Kate, one of the contraindications for Phentermine is any kind of blood vessel disease. However, that doesn’t mean you have to live with that extra 35 pounds. Talk to your doctor about the safest way to lose it.

Subj: Rapid weight loss
Date: 7/29/2011
Ever since I’ve been taking Phentermine I have noticed that my period has not come on for almost 2 months. However, I have been stressing for a while now and I someone also told me that when loosing rapid weight loss, your period would be irregular. Is that true? I’m very concerned…

Jasmine

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is true that rapid weight loss can cause a number of menstrual problems. It will, however, stop when you discontinue the drug. Also there are other reasons for missing a period (amenorrhea), even if you aren’t pregnant. Here is a partial list:

  • Acute illness involving fever
  • Anemia and malnourishment
  • Hormonal imbalance: variations in estrogen and progesterone levels
  • Overdoing a diet
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Rigorous sports activity, which is beyond vigorous
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Sometimes periods are missed for no apparent reason
  • Stress
  • Switching to other birth control pill

If you miss two periods in a row then it is recommended that you see your doctor.

Subj: Does Phentramin-d show up on a drug test?
Date: 8/5/2011
Does any one know if Phentramin-d will cause a positive uranalysis? I can’t have one for my job and if the mixture of ingredients will cause a positive UA I need to know.

Stacia

AskDocWeb: Phentramin-d does not have the chemical similarity to amphetamine that Phentermine does. The main ingredient in Phentramin-d is a sympathomimetic amine, meaning it mimics norepinephrine, a precursor of epinephrine that elevates metabolic rate, increases fat mobilization, and increases energy levels. There are no reports of Phentramin-d showing up on urine drug tests.

Subj: No Phentermine before surgery
Date: 8/12/2011
I began using phentermine in Oct of 2007 and within 3 to 4 months went from 192 lbs to 138 lbs. I ceased using and maintained at 138 and 145 lbs. About Nov of last year I began using them again because I had put on 13 lbs and I was concerned because of already being over 45. Then I was scheduled to have oral surgery for dental implants and ask my dr if I should stop using Phentermine. He said yes, at least 2 weeks before surgery and he said not to start up again for at least 2 weeks after.

Donna

AskDocWeb: Thanks Donna, welcome to the Phentermine forum.

Subj: Lymph nodes in neck swelled
Date: 8/18/2011
I took phentermine for 2 months. The third week if the first month my lymphs in my neck swelled. So i started taking them every other day for a week. Then the second month it did the same thing my lymph were swollen. I told my doctor and i was taken off the pills.

Nitche

AskDocWeb: Swollen lymph nodes are typically a sign of either a bacterial or a viral infection.

Subj: What would happen if I took two phentermine?
Date: 8/25/2011
What would happen if i took two phentermine at one i have a really hard day at work tommorow and need lots of energy.

Ally

AskDocWeb: Taking two at once would be an overdose, which is a bad idea for a number of reasons. That kind of stimulation may produce more than just energy. It can cause irregular heartbeat, hallucinations, panic attack, abnormal behavior, aggressiveness, confusion, diarrhea, rapid breathing, seizures, severe headache, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting. Those are not things you want to experience while you are at work. It could also result in a trip to the emergency room and the words “drug abuse” being added to your medical record.

Subj: Is it okay to take prozac and phentermine together?
Date: 8/25/2011
Is it okay to take prozac and phentermine together and if so can it be taken at different times.

Jessica

AskDocWeb: Appetite suppressants such as Phentermine are not typically used with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) because of the possibility for enhanced sympathomimetic effects and possible serotonin syndrome. The symptoms of serotonin syndrome may include one or more of the following:

  • mental status changes such as irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, hallucinations,
  • autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, and pupil dilation
  • neuromuscular abnormalities such as hyperreflexia, muscle spasms, tremor, rigidity, inability to coordinate voluntary muscle movements, unsteady movements, staggering gait
  • gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • coma

In one case a woman who used a single dose of Phentermine 1 week after stopping Prozac had several problems. Her adverse reaction produced dry eyes, racing thoughts, jitteriness, heart palpitations, tremors, restlessness, and stomach cramps.

Subj: Stopping Phentermine for a while
Date: 8/26/2011
I have taken Phentermine for a short time in the past and am now taking them again. It’s been 1 1/2 months and I’ve lost 35 pounds, but I’m starting to notice that they aren’t working as well to suppress my appetite and give me energy like they once were. I saw here that I should stop for a while then start taking them again…how long is it recommended that I stop for? Any other suggestions? Thanks,

Aaron

AskDocWeb: Taking some time off from using it may help for a while but eventually your body will get used to it. If it isn’t working as well as you want then you can take that as a sign to check back with your doctor. He or she may want to adjust your dosage, have you take a couple of weeks off or try something else.

Subj: Two week period
Date: 8/29/2011
I have recently got the depo shot abd srarted taking phentermine I started my period about two weeks ago and still on…why is that?

Cierra

AskDocWeb: It could be the depo shot, the Phentermine, or something else. The depo shot causes a thinning of the lining of the uterus that usually stops a woman’s period but in some women this thinness acts like an open wound. Some women said that they spotted for the first 6 months of depo and the next 6 months they had nothing. Extended bleeding is very normal in the beginning. By your second or third shot, though, this should stop.

A FEW women will have long term bleeding that does not stop until they stop using depo. If that happens, there’s not much you can do about it except wait for the cycle to normalize on its own (about 3 months) or not get the next shot.

If you decide to keep with the depo shot, make sure you increase your intake of calcium since the shot may make you lose bone density. Good luck.

Subj: Why am I extremely tired?
Date: 9/2/2011
I too, have been taling phentermine and I have noticed that after about 3 hrs I am extremely tired. I went to have an B-12 injuection thinking that would cause me to have more energy but to no avail, I am still tired all the time. Any suggestions as to why this may be happening??

Kd

AskDocWeb: One possibility is that your dosage is too high. Fatigue is one of the symptoms of an overdose.
