Subj: Phentermine and Celexa
Date: 5/18/2005
I have been on phentermine about 4 months now and have lost a total of 32 lbs., and am feeling great! I read above that over time, phentermine loses its effectiveness. Should I maybe go off of it for a week or so? I still would really like to lose another 10 or so lbs. and have noticed in the past month that I have had a plateau in my weightloss. One more question…I have heard that phentermine interferes to some extent with celexa. I do take celexa, but have cut it in half when I learned of this. What are your suggestions to both of these questions…?

Amy

AskDocWeb: Taking time off from your Phentermine is a good idea. Cutting Celexa in half is not recommended. It is our understanding that Celexa shouldn’t be taken with Phentermine. Better talk to your doctor about which one is more important.

Subj: Frustrated with being fat
Date: 5/19/2005
I am 475 (well -15 now that I am on Phentermine). I have a few things going on and would like some feedback. High Blood pressure (was on Diovan now on Atenolol 50MG) On Nexium 40MG, Phentermine 37.5, And now I find I have Diabetes… and will be on glucophaze (or something like that). Dealing with diarrhea at this point (not fun) will this go away.. or is there some way to stop it (I am taking imodium). Please advise me on all this if you can. Frustrated with being fat.. but man I don’t want to croak from the fix.

Bob

AskDocWeb: You are more likely to croak from not dealing with your health risks. With so much going on, you might want to check out some kind of support group. Your physician may be able to recommend one.

Subj: Addicted to Phentermine
Date: 5/19/2005
I have been taking Phentermine off and on for several months. I got a prescription from on online pharmacy about a month ago and I’m taking them regularly now. I’ve lost 15 pounds and I’d like to use about 10 more. The problem is I’m now taking 2 a day so the effect will last longer. I only have about 10 pills left and I’m really stressing out about getting some more before I run out. I can’t imagine not having any. I think I’ve become addicted to them and I don’t know how to stop.

Subj: Impotence with Phentermine
Date: 5/19/2005
I am 40 y.o. and have been taking 15mg of phentermine daily for approximately 6 months. During the last week or so I’ve noticed a decrease ability to achieve a full erection, I have not notice a difference in reaching orgasm. I see that impotence is a side affect, is that the likely culprit and can I expect everything to return to normal if I discontinue the phentermine. Thanks

John

AskDocWeb: If you read our report again, you will see that impotence is a side effect that signals something is wrong and you need to contact your doctor.

Subj: Terrible rash
Date: 5/21/2005

I have been taking Phentermine off and on since I was 17. I am now 31 years old and have a terrible rash on my butt cheek, groin, and upper arm. This rash is extremely itchy and has red raised bumps almost resembling a ringworm or exema. I was wanting to know, could this be from using phentermine for such a long period of time. I usually only take it 4-5 times a week, sometimes taking one pill in the morning 37.5 mg and sometimes a half at lunch. I weigh 199 lbs and I am 5’7″. Recently I have lost 50 lbs after getting back on this medication again. I am very depressed feel all alone no matter what and cannot seem to just BE Happy. I know this itch is becoming very sore and moving into the crack of my bottom (and I know that is not good). I have been to several doctors and have not come up with any answers. It started out more than 1 year ago on my leg and has spread to the other areas. Could it be cancer? I do not know please help,

Paula

AskDocWeb: It doesn’t sound cancerous but you need to see a doctor that specializes in skin diseases and conditions, a dermatologist.

Subj: Phentermine and Phen-Phen
Date: 5/22/2005
Is Phentermine the same thing as Phen-Phen that was causing heart problems, and even death, in some people? (The drug that people had lawsuits on a few years back)

LaKeisha

AskDocWeb: No, Phentermine is not the same thing as Phen-Phen.

Subj: Recommendation
Date: 5/22/2005
Have used phentermine for a couple months now and have lost a total of 35 pounds and 3 pant sizes! Began exercising regularly, eating right, and drinking lots of water! I believe I would have been discouraged had it not been for the jump start that phentermine gave me. Would recommend it to anyone who is serious about losing weight.

Subj: Possible damage from Phentermine
Date: 5/23/2005
I’m curious if any damage can be done to my heart or lungs with prolonged use of Phentermine?

Sueanne

AskDocWeb: There may be long term consequences for maintaining the increased blood pressure and pulse rate. That’s likely one of the reasons the manufacturer says to only use it short term.

Subj: Side effects the second time
Date: 5/24/2005
I have taken Phentermine in the past and have had some really good results from it. The phentermine that I was on the first time was prescribed to me from a doctor that I went to see for an appointment. Recently I have tried to take Phentermine again and have had terrible side affects. I really bad mood swings, depression and irritability along with headaches and unable to sleep at night. Is it possible that the pills that I ordered on line was a different kind or strength than the first kind? What is the difference between the blue capsules and the others? I was on the blue capsules both times and they have totally different affects on me. Please help….I want to loose weight. I am 150 and only 5’3 and 29 years old. There is no reason for me to be this over weight…Thanks

Cynthia

AskDocWeb: It is quite possible that the pills you ordered online were too strong. You need to have your doctor prescribe something appropriate to your current physical condition.

Subj: Hair loss with Phentermine
Date: 5/25/2005
I’ve been taking Phentermine on and off since January 2005. I have experience hair breakage since starting this medication. I have checked with others and found another young lady experiencing the same problem. Has there been any other reports of hair loss while taking this medication?

Rochelle

AskDocWeb: Although there doesn’t seem to be any documentation on hair loss caused by Phentermine, it does seem to be an unlisted side effect. Several people have reported hair loss when using Phentermine.

Subj: Nervous and jittery with Phentermine
Date: 5/27/2005
I have just started to take phentermine again. The last time I took it was back in 1995. That time I lost 45 lbs in a 6 weeks. This time it makes me very nervous and jittery. I am taking 30mg a day. Should I cut down or will this feeling go away after a few days on the medication?

Kira

AskDocWeb: What you describe is common. Phentermine is to be used with an exercise program that takes care of that extra energy.

Subj: Alcohol and Phentermine
Date: 5/29/2005
I have quite a few friends on Phentermine including myself and they say that drinking alcohol will make them sick. Is this true for everyone or is it depending on the person?

Robin

AskDocWeb: Yes, avoid excess alcohol.

Subj: Phentermine has changed my whole life
Date: 6/2/2005
I have lost 14lbs in 4 weeks. This is not fake. I am a real person with a real opinion. My girlfriend and I started the same week and she’s lost 11 lbs. I haven’t been under 200lbs. since I was 16. This pill really works. I eat what ever I want. The only thing that has changed is my portion sizes. I am not starving and I really do not feel like I am on a diet. This pill was a blessing from above.

Amanda

Subj: Arthroscopic knee surgery
Date: 6/3/2005
I had arthroscopic knee surgery over a week ago – is it safe to start taking phenteremine again??

Lisa

AskDocWeb: As long as you are not taking any drugs that will interact with it and your doctor agrees.

Subj: Dry mouth with Phentermine
Date: 6/3/2005
After about a month of taking Phentermine, my mouth became extremely dry and things didn’t taste good. I tried to ignore it, but then my tongue got really sore and the inside of my cheeks got raw. I’m assuming it was from the drug, but I’m wondering if anyone else has had this complaint.

Carie

AskDocWeb: This could be a sign that you aren’t drinking enough water. You should drink a lot of water when taking phentermine. If it persists longer than three days, talk to your doctor about it.

Subj: Swelling in throat
Date: 6/3/2005
Hi,I recently had a baby and about a month after I started getting an uncomfortable swelling feeling in my throat. I also was taking phentermine for about 3 weeks and still was getting the swelling feeling in my throat. I have been off of them for a couple of months now and still have the swelling feeling in my throat and some slight chest pains. Any suggestions on what this may be and if the phentermine could have affected this. Thanks

Tanya

AskDocWeb: Sounds like you need to be examined by your physician. Please don’t ignore this because it could be serious.

Subj: Numbness in fingers and toes
Date: 6/4/2005
I have been taking Phentermine for about a month now. When I went to get a refill the pill looks different (different manufacturer) I was told. Now I have numbness in the fingers and toes could this be from Phentermine.

Dayna

AskDocWeb: It is difficult to say, this isn’t a known side effect. There could be another problem so take it as an indication that you need to see your doctor.

Subj: No weight loss
Date: 6/6/2005
I don’t get it. I haven’t lost any weight with phentermine. I don’t really feel any different and I have been taking it for a month. I take once a day 30 minutes just before breakfast as the doctor ordered but no difference. Does it take awhile before it begins to work?

Ellen

AskDocWeb: It is possible that you may need a higher dosage. Have you changed your diet and started an exercise program? Talk with your doctor, he may have you talk to a Nutrition Consultant. Read more feedback from users.
