Bad headaches
Date: 10/30/2011
I’ve been taking phentermine for 5 days now and everytime i take them it seems im getting very ba headaches, im on 1 pill a day and thats cut in half its 37.5 mg and i was wondering if its just too high of a dose.
Margie
AskDocWeb: Headaches are listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor. Some reports suggest that these are likely to fade in the first 5 to 7 days as the body becomes adjusted to the medication.
Losing weight too fast?
Date: 10/31/2011
I have only been taking phentermine for 4 days and I have already lost 7 lbs..Im just afraid of losing it too fast.
Tracy
AskDocWeb: Most of the weight that is lost in the first week is just water and the rate of weight loss typically slows down the longer the medication is used. If you think you are losing weight too fast then discuss this with your doctor.
Can’t seem to keep the weight off
Date: 11/5/2011
I’ve noticed that each cycle which is months apart of taking this med I get dark hematoma looking spots on my legs no Pain from it with prominent spider. I have been taking phentermine periodically for years. I’ve gone through all the above side effects but cant seem to keep the weight off when I stop.

Is it ok to take B complex with Phentermine?
Date: 11/6/2011
I take 37.5 once in the morning and have only been on it for 3 days so far. By lunch time the appetite control is almost completely gone (bear in mind I do eat so I am not starving myself) and I start to get very tired. I also take C vitamin, calcium with D vitamin twice a day, and a super B complex when I get the lunchtime lull…it helps a little, but not much. First is it ok to take B complex with Phentermine (up to 2 in the day), and second should I consult my Dr about taking it twice daily versus just in the morning? The effects come on so strong then just go away. Any help is appreciated.
Miranda
AskDocWeb: Everyone taking prescription medication should consult with their doctor before beginning a program of supplementation. This is especially true if you have multiple health issues. Some B vitamins interact with drugs used to treat seizures, high blood pressure, and Parkinson’s disease. For example pantothenic acid deactivates Levodopa. Have you asked your doctor if you need a B complex?

The problem is it becomes addicting
Date: 11/8/2011
I have been taking phentermine on and off since I was 23. I am now 41. I gained a lot of weight when I got pregnant with my son and my doctor put me on it. I lost all 90 lbs. of weight I gained through pregnancy and continued to take it because it helped me maintain my figure.
I just really stopped taking it 3 months ago because it wasn’t really working well anymore and I started to feel really cloudy in my head all the time, blurred vision, difficulty focusing and I started trembling in my left hand. I am not sure if these are all caused by my long term intake of Phentermine but I needed to stop and see if it will go away. I am hoping it will.
This pill is a blessing for those that need to lose 50 pounds or more and taken short term. The problem is it becomes addicting. If you only have a few pounds to lose, please do not take this medicine. Go to the gym and cut calories. That’s way healthier.

Great jump start for your diet
Date: 11/11/2011
I took Phentermine about 2 and a half years ago when I could no longer maintain my weight which had always been around 190. I only took it for about 2 months and lost about 30 pounds or so. Then I got laid off from my job at the gym and I got an IUD. The birth control started making me lose my hair and gain weight, Fast!
My husband and I moved to another state and now two and half years later, after the birth control and stress, I find myself at 268. So I started taking Phentermine again. I have to force myself to eat! I love this pill because of that and the energy I have all day. Some people report that they go batcrap crazy and get real nasty and snappy. I, on the other hand, feel wonderful. I couldn’t be in a better mood.
I do experience a slight elevated heart rate so my doctor also prescribed a low dose blood pressure medicine that I take half of a day. I usually smoke about a pack of cigarettes every four days but on Phentermine, I smoke about a pack a day. It makes me a little bit queasy at times, but only when I think about greasy fatty nasty food. I also pick alot at things. For example, bumps on my arms or lint on the sofa. All in all, I think the pros outweigh the cons in my personal experience. Although this pill usually stops working for me after about 3 months. This is great jump start for your diet.

Severe diastolic cardiac dysfunction
Date: 11/11/2011
I have taken Phentermine about 3 days per week for 5 months and have lost almost 20 pounds. By taking it just a few days a week, it has continued to help me maintain the weight loss. Just recently I was diagnosed with severe diastolic cardiac dysfunction. Would this have been a result of this drug?
Pam
AskDocWeb: Thanks for posting your experience Pam. According to the Physician’s Desk Reference, “The possibility of an association between valvular heart disease and the use of Phentermine alone cannot be ruled out; there have been rare cases of valvular heart disease in patients who reportedly have taken Phentermine alone.” We hope everything turns out okay for you.

AskDocWeb: And what is it that you are wondering about?
8 month plan
Date: 11/19/2011
I am going to a doctor to get my phentermine and he put me on an 8 month plan. 5 months to lose all my extra weight and 3 months to slowly increase my calories. I have read that this medicine does not work after 3 months. Why would he keep me on it for so long?
Deb
AskDocWeb: The amount of time that it takes to build up a tolerance for this medication varies from one individual to the next. It does NOT just stop working at 3 months. You may also want to keep in mind that treatment plans are often modified according to the results you get along the way. That is one of the reasons why it is important to keep all appointments, to give your doctor feedback on your progress.
High blood pressure
Date: 11/21/2011
I’m like the girl above. I’m currently taking Benicar 40mg for high blood pressure. I was told part of my high blood pressure is due to weight gain. I just started taking phentermine today. I feel I need a little help, and I like the phentermine. I’ve taken it years ago and it worked. I just want to be safe. What is your advise?
Kesha
AskDocWeb: Losing just 10 pounds can have a significant impact in lowering blood pressure. However, to be safe you need to talk to your doctor about the possibility of using Phentermine. There are several factors that need to be considered before your doctor can determine if this medication would be safe and appropriate for you.
On-off use of Phentermine
Date: 11/30/2011
I’ve taken Phentermine tabs 37.5 – half tablets early in the AM after breakfast for about 6 mos then, got off for about a month. I was originally put on the tabs by my dr. for weight-loss, & an energy-push due to my weight & a rise in my cholesterol level. I have lost approx. 30 lbs & my cholesterol is again normal. I take the dosage above on weekdays only. I HAVE experienced side-effects but I try to “wein” myself off the tablets. Is there a problem w/using the pill on an “on-off” again situation? Or should I simply stay-off? Please advise….
D
AskDocWeb: Phentermine should be taken exactly as prescribed. If you want to change your treatment plan then discuss this with your doctor.
Shortness of breath
Date: 12/2/2011
Recently got bumped up to the higher dosage because what I was taking before stopped working. I’ve lost over 30 pounds in over 3 months and love it. I am very active and usually exercise 3-4 hours a day. Tonight was the first night I had to stop exercising due to shortness of breath. I really want to continue to take this but not if it’s going to harm me or keep me from being active.
Kate
AskDocWeb: Please talk to your doctor about that shortness of breath. It may be a temporary thing but it could also be a warning sign.
Pre-employment drug test
Date: 12/14/2011
I have been perscribed Phentermine 30 mg and also taking the HCG injections. My question is I just lost my job and if I take either one of these two will it show in my pre-employment drug test. Or should I just not take them and wait until I get a job.
Lucy
AskDocWeb: It appears that there is a possibility that Phentermine might show up as an amphetamine on urine drug tests. The HCG injections may cause a false positive to show up on a pregnancy test but shouldn’t cause any problems with an employment drug test. Since you are going to get a drug test for employment you may want to read through the list of possible causes for a false positive.
Premature ejaculation and semen leakage
Date: 12/20/2011
With all due respect to the Doc, if you google phentermine and “premature ejaculation” or “semen leakage” you’ll see that quite a few men have experienced this side effect, and I’m one of them. Apparently it goes away once the phentermine is discontinued, but I’m still on it so I wouldn’t know, yet.
Michael
AskDocWeb: You are correct. In the clinical studies, some people did experience sexual side effects while taking phentermine. Although Phentermine is suspected to interfere with sexual function, the exact percentage of phentermine users who experienced this is unknown. However, there is no definite medical research that proves whether these changes are caused by other factors or phentermine alone.
