AskDocWeb: That might be true if Phentermine was the only possible solution but is it? Of course not, and acting as if that were true may sound like a good excuse to remain inactive but you still have a choice. Have you talked to your doctor about what might be best for your long-term health?

I take phemtermine 37.5 mg a day. I have a prescription. I had a random today at work and know its gonna make me test positive for amphetines. Is there away to test this further to show it was just my phemtermine?

Brandi

AskDocWeb: Yes, confirmation test can to show exactly what is present in a sample. Generally there are two ways to do that. The first is a GC/MS test, which stands for Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry. It is very close to being a perfect drug test. It turns the sample into a gas and analyzes the way the components of that gas array themselves in the tube. The spectrum of the substances present are somewhat like fingerprints for each one. It will specifically list exactly what is found in the sample and it is extremely accurate.

The other type of confirmation test is the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS). Bother tests are much more expensive but they are well worth the money if you get a false positive result on a urine test.

Why am I not losing anymore weight?
Date: 1/1/2012
I started taking phentermine 37.5 about 11 days ago and weighed in at 140. The first week lost 5 pounds and now I’m 135. I have been stuck at that weight for about a week now. I eat very healthy. Fruits and vegetables and a little protein. No bread no rice. Only drink water. And I exercise about 3 days a week which consist of 4 miles on the Tredmile every work out. Do you have any idea why I’m not losing anymore weight? I am very frustrated trying to get to my goal weight of 120. I’m begging to get very discouraged.

AskDocWeb: When the progress as measured by the scale levels out or becomes flat, they call that hitting a plateau. Although it’s extremely frustrating, it’s also common for people to hit a plateau after a few months of weight loss success. It happens because once the body adapts to your program you use less energy than you did before, which results in your weight loss coming to a stop.

In order to break through a plateau you need to change your program regularly so that you keep challenging yourself to burn more calories until you reach your goal. In general there are three areas where this can be accomplished: your cardio program, strength training program and meal planning.

Your Cardio Program: Don’t let your body get used to the exercise. Maintain your body’s adaptation period by changing the intensity, duration, frequency, or try brand new activities. For example, if you use the treadmill for two weeks, switch to something different like a rowing machine or a bike.

Your Strength Training Program: If you don’t do it now you can still add this to your routine. Strength training usually means lifting weights or doing some kind of resistance training however, it can be as simple as doing 15-20 minutes of squats, lunges, or step-ups twice or three times a week.

If you currently engage in strength training you can change up your workouts by focusing on the upper body at the beginning of the week followed by a lower body workout toward the end of the week. This creates a different stimulus to burn calories and get beyond a plateau. Strength training allows you to burn more calories, boosts your metabolism, and builds lean muscle mass all at the same time.

Your meal and eating plan:

  • Replace unhealthy foods with healthier choices
  • Keep a food journal
  • Allow only healthy foods in your pantry
  • Spend more time in the grocery store reading food labels
  • Spend more time preparing meals
  • Say no to extra portions
  • Make conscious choices about what you put in your mouth

For permanent weight loss, you need to make good choices more often than not.

Remember that feeling frustrated is your body’s way of letting you know that what you are trying is not working. Frustration is just a sign that you need to change your approach so hang in there. Be patient and keep up the good habits you’ve already developed. If your goal is realistic, you can reach it. Go for it!
