Tired all the time
Date: 1/13/2012
I feel so tired all the time. Can this be a withdrawal symptom from taking Phentermine 37.5 for a little over 3 years? I have been off it for just about 4 months. What can I do to counteract this?

Chris

AskDocWeb: It is not likely to be withdrawal symptoms because they typically don’t last more than a week or two. Here are some of the most common causes for feeling tired:

  • anemia
  • being overweight
  • being underweight
  • low grade infections
  • poor diet and nutrition
  • lack of exercise
  • not getting enough sleep or poor quality sleep
  • leading a boring life, lack of excitement

If feeling tired interferes with your daily life then talk to your doctor about possible medical causes.

2000mg of Evening Primrose Oil?
Date: 1/14/2012
Could you please tell me of any problems of taking 37.5mg Phentermine and my doc has me taking a double dose 2000mg of Evening Primrose Oil? I am having mouth soreness and mouth twitches? Can you help me?

Leslie

AskDocWeb: Evening Primrose Oil does have some possible side effects but it is not known to produce mouth sores or make your mouth twitch. The side effects of Phentermine are listed here. Although mouth sores or oral soreness is not listed as a side effect, there are a few complaints about that from those using Phentermine. Several people have mentioned that their sore mouth went away after they started using vitamins and discontinued high acid food and drinks. Remember to always keep your doctor informed about any side effects you may experience.

Will Phentermine affect my baby?
Date: 1/15/2012
I recently found out I’m pregnant. I am about 4 weeks along and I just stopped taking phentermine. Can my baby have any affects to it?

Melissa

AskDocWeb: Unfortunately there is no clear “yes or no answer” to your question. The FDA has classified Phentermine in Pregnancy Category C, which is given to drugs that have not been studied in pregnant humans or animals. Chemically Phentermine is related to amphetamines, a group of drugs that has been shown to increase the risk of birth defects and miscarriages. There have been a few reports of lung problems and stillbirths possibly related to phentermine use during pregnancy. While the risk of using Phentermine for a short time during early pregnancy is “probably” low but still exists.

Answer update February 22, 2012Please note that the FDA has changed the pregnancy category for Phentermine from C to X because animal or human studies have shown that the risk of adverse effects on a fetus outweigh any benefit.

Want to lose weight faster
Date: 1/18/2012
Hi! So I just started taking phentermine 37.5 and while I have been on it for like 17 days now I have not lost any weight which is weird bc I took it in 2009 before my wedding and I lost 23lbs in 2 months and seen great results fast but this time it does not seem to be effecting me besides keeping me awake and I have also started a 30day shred workout but I guess I’m just wondering if there was something I could do to get faster or even some lbs off with it…thanks so much.

Shondell

AskDocWeb: Wow! If you can say all of that with just one breath you may already be wired or hyper. To get the best results you need to follow the directions. Phentermine is intended for use with a reduced calorie diet and an exercise program. If you need help cutting out unhealthy snacks read Conquer Cravings.

On 2/16/10 I started taking the pills a month ago December 12 2011 and am having the same symptom. I’ve lost 12 pounds so far and my goal weight is 140 which the doctor said I should be by June. I am wondering if the dosage is too high I’m at 37.5.

J

AskDocWeb: Your dosage is set by your doctor but you can still ask about it. Some physicians recommend taking half a dose twice a day to reduce side effects.

How can I stop the hair loss
Date: 1/19/2012
I have been taking phentermine for about a year now and since I’ve starting taking it I’ve had alot of hair loss…is this a side effect of this medicine and if so how can I stop the hair loss and continue taking the phentermine?

Jessica

AskDocWeb: Welcome Jessica, sorry to hear about your hair loss. Although hair loss is not listed as one of the side effects of Phentermine many people on diets have that experience. The two main areas to take a closer look at are stress and nutrition. Dieting is stressful and of course that is one cause of hair loss. Another is poor nutrition, which is common if the dieting experience is not well balanced. Besides addressing those two you might try using a shampoo that fights hair loss.

Trouble breathing
Date: 1/22/2012
I have been taking phen for about 3 months now and although I have lost 15lbs, I have been having trouble breathing for the past 3 days. After researching what could be causing this, I thought I should google side affects of phen. This website has been very helpful, and I have decided that although it is important that I lose weight, that weight will be the least of my problems if I do not stop taking phen. I had apsma as a child/pre-teen years, so I don’t take being able to breath normally for granted. I have always been against taking pills for weight loss and only took phen because my Dr. Recommended and prescribed it for a short period of time. So thanks everyone for the info….. It’s a wrap!!!!

Tricia

AskDocWeb: Thanks Tricia. This particular pill may be a wrap for you but remember that there are other ways to lose weight. In our opinion the two best ways to gain control of your weight are through nutrition and exercise. Please consider improving the quality of the food you eat and take up a new hobby that makes you physically active. Good luck.

Aninmal cuts and Phentermine?
Date: 1/31/2012
Can you take aninmal cuts and phetermine together?

KR

AskDocWeb: If you read the patient information for Phentermine it says to avoid using stimulants that increase the heart rate. Phentermine is already a stimulant and taking another stimulant on top of that would likely cause problems.
