Red nose and fever blisters
11/27/2012
I started taking phentermine 2 years ago. I slowly lost 43 pounds and have managed to keep it off. I only take 1/2 pill 37.5mg at a time and usually just once a day in mid afternoon. I only took a whole pill the first time and got too jittery. The 1/2 pill has worked fine for me. I don’t even take I every day now, but I have noticed that over the past few years I have broken out with what doctors thought was shingles in really strange places (on my face, arms, buttocks). The last breakout I was told it was the herpes simplex (fever blister type) and not zoster (shingles type). Could phentermine be causing these breakouts or attributing to them? I also have the weird feeling in my mouth and bad taste sometimes, but that doesn’t bother me so much. Lately though I have noticed my nose turns red and throbs a little when I take the 1/2 pill. Has that happened to anyone? I’m in the wine business and walking around with a red nose is not good.

Patricia

AskDocWeb: Does your nose turn red on those days that you don’t take Phentermine? Red nose and fever blisters have not been reported by those using Phentermine. However, rash and hives are possible. It may be a good idea to ask your doctor for a definitive answer about herpes simplex. Stress is a known trigger for herpes outbreaks and Phentermine is a stimulant. Taking a stimulant on a regular basis does put a great deal of stress on the body.

Severe back pain
11/30/2012
Does anyone have severe back pain while taking phentermine? What can i do for the pain to go away?

Rodie

AskDocWeb: According to drugs.com, if you have severe pain in your lower back, “Stop taking this medication and call your doctor at once.”

Avoid alcohol!
12/1/2012
I have been taking phentermine for about 2 months now and have lost 11 pounds with no change in diet (aside from extra water) and no exercise. I plan on adding exercise to speed up results. But last weekend I went out with friends and drank and have been sick ever since. The thing that is really worrying me is that the whites of my eyes look yellow. When they say to avoid alcohol while taking it they mean it!

Really bad headaches
12/1/2012
I started phentermine with a b12 injection on the 14 of November. I was feeling great no side effects other than the major dry mouth nothing to bad. Then I went in for my weekly check up on nov 26 but this time i got the b12 complex injecton. I got the injection. about hour later I could taste the vitamin in my mouth, but it went away the next morning. I started taking the phen that morning the following morning I have had really bad headache’s. I don’t know if it’s from the shot or the phentermine because the phentermine didn’t give me any bad side affect’s the week before. any advice?

Christine

AskDocWeb: Headaches are listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.

Mixing meds
12/4/2012
Im taking 10mg of tspazole once a day and atenolol 50mg once a day doctor put me on phentermine 37.5mg but im scared to start is this bad mixing all this meds

Maria

AskDocWeb: We have no listing for tspazole so are going to assume that is a misspelling of tapazole (methimazole). Although we found no drug interaction between those your medications, there is an interaction listed for atenolol and orange juice. Drinking orange juice while using atenolol may reduce the bioavailability of atenolol by interfering with the body’s ability to absorb it from the gastrointestinal tract.
