Subj: Hopeful combination
I have been taking propecia for 3 months now along with rogain and nizarol. It’s still kind of early to know the full benefit it will have on me, but since taking the propecia I have noticed my hair is no longer falling out and the texture seems thicker. I’m not sure, but I might have even grown more hair. I am hopeful it will work for me to regrow enough hair.
Subj: Questions about Propecia
Hello AskDocWeb, I appreciate the info on medications. A few questions, can I stop propecia and the start again? Me and my wife are trying to start a family I just want to be safe. I am going to try procerin. Is this a good alternative or another myth that grows hair or can I stay on propecia. I don’t want to risk any danger to the child or my wife and also can I take it every other day instead of every day. Is this effective and will stopping and starting the drug be dangerous. I know I’m asking alot of questions but I just want to be safe please respond. Thank you very much, I appreciate the help,
AskDocWeb: Other than an increase in hair loss for a while, we found no problem with stopping and starting this drug. Although taking Propecia every other day will reduce its effectiveness, you will also reduce the chances of side effects. There is a possibility (although small) that this drug will reduce your ability to conceive a child. But as I see it, the greatest danger is your wife coming into contact with this drug while she is pregnant. To be on the safe side, some men wash their hands and rinse their mouth out after taking it.
Procerin is a non-medical, herbal alternative that, in our opinion, is worth trying.
Subj: 2+ months on Propecia
I am 26 and I’ve been using propecia for about 2 1/2 months. I have yet to experience a reduction in hairloss. I can still see a lot of hair clogging my drain after I shower. However, I just recently discovered a few hairs near my receeding hairline which look similar to my first chin hairs during puberty. Am I on track or am I mistaking these hairs for follicles that are in their dying cycle?
AskDocWeb: Sounds like you may be on the right track. You will just have to wait and see.
Subj: Decreased sex drive on Propecia
I have been using propecia for about a month now. My hair was falling out in large amounts at first. The propecia has seemed to have a positive affect. My issue is that at first I had no sexual side effects. But gradually, I did start to lose interest in sex. Now, one month later, I have a low sex drive. I can still perform but it’s not as intense. The worst part is my partner has also started to develop a decreased sex drive in the last month or so. Is it possible that sweat or anything else can affect your sexual partner as well?
AskDocWeb: With sweat, it depends on how your partner response to it. Some women don’t mind it, others find it distasteful, and in some situations it can be a source of humor. Sweat doesn’t do anything to effect your sexual drive, but if it produces an odor, that may affect her desire. The decrease in your partner’s sex drive may just be her responding to you decreased libido.
Subj: Your opinion
Can you please provide your opinion on propecia dose as noted below: (Link from the physics department of Penn university is no loner available)
AskDocWeb: I think this quote pretty much sums it up: “There was a time when drug stores had druggists who “filled prescriptions” supplied by physicians. Now the huge conglomerates…send their customers materials obtained from drug companies and suggest that they buy that company’s drug. There may be a better drug on the market; the buyer is being provided information that is biased.”
Subj: Propecia and exhaustion?
Hi there – I came upon this website because I was looking for side effects on Propecia. I have notice that I am always incredibly tired and thought Propecia might be the culprit. Anyway, I have been taking Propecia for at least 5 years now, since I was 26 ( I am 31 now ). I have not seen any side effects ( knock on wood ) as far as libido or sexual drive. As a matter of fact I masturbate 1-2 times a day 5-6 days a week and have a gfriend who I am very sexually active with. It may be that I started taking it at such a young age that my body is used to it at this time. My hair loss has definitely slowed down and new hair has grown in the crown area. I don’t think Propecia has done a thing for my hairline. I did have some graphs done to help that situation. Propecia, like anything else works for some and not for others.
I just thought since I’ve been using it since it first came out I would help people out with my experiences. On the other hand I would love to stop taking it if I could. I may try one of the alternatives on this site. I am just afraid that I will lose the hair I have maintained while using Propecia.
Basically, what I am saying is Propecia does work and there are side effects for some people. It does not make me happy that I have been putting a foreign object in my body for the past 5 years and will continue to do so. Which is why I would like to stop. Like any other product out there, what people are reading is the bad things that come along with this product. Generally people never call or write to compliment things but only call or write when they are dissatisfied with a product. It is just human nature. What you’re reading is all the bad but not the good.
I do have a question, which is why I was here originally. Have there been any studies or proof that Propecia causes exhaustion? Hope this helps people, and please do not post my e-mail address. Cheers,
AskDocWeb: Your e-mail address is always private here. If anyone finds a study connecting Propecia with exhaustion, please send a link and we’ll share it here.
Subj: Breast enlargement with Propecia
Hi. I’ve been taking propecia 1mg for 1 and a half months. I seem to be experiencing a little breast enlargement. I don’t know if I should quit the treatment or keep taking it and see how it goes. My main concern is if I keep tanking it and the problem gets worse and then I stop tanking the drug, will the breast become normal?
AskDocWeb: According to the manufacturer all those who had side effects returned to normal within a year. We would like to hear from anyone who has had breast enlargement that returned to normal. Many men would like to know how long it took.
Subj: Halitosis and Propecia
I have noticed halitosis ever since my husband has starting taking Propecia. It has been about 1 year now. To see if it was only a coincidence, he tried staying off Propecia for 2 months and his breath improved! Do you have any insight on this situation?
AskDocWeb: Many medications can cause bad breath. You can find a list of them in the Bad Breath Bible and it’s free.
Subj: What happens when I stop?
Last year I noticed I was thinning. I started using saw palmetto 320mg standardized extract. I haven’t noticed any changes really, except more thinning. Is there a chance that when using a product like propecia or procerin that you will lose hair faster when ending use with the product than you would not using it at all?
AskDocWeb: Yes, that is what happens when you discontinue any hair loss product. The hair that the product kept from falling out starts doing so when you stop using the product. The loss of this hair plus the hair loss you had while using the product will add up to a lot more hair loss in the following 12 months than you had before you started. This accelerated hair loss will return to normal hair loss within 12 months. You have to keep using it if you want to keep the hair.
Please note that there are some health concerns with using saw palmetto.
Subj: Change in semen after Propecia
I tried Propecia for two years with fair results and then quit about a year ago. My semen appeared normal while on Propecia, however, right after quitting, it became and remains significantly different. I now have the following semen condition. The semen consistency became very thick, the color became a darker yellow, and it now has tapioca-like globules in it. It looks repulsive. Are there ways of countering the lasting effects from this drug?
AskDocWeb: I think you should be examined by a urologist because it sounds like something else is going on.
Subj: Propecia and rash
I have been taking propecia for about 6 years. About three years ago I started getting a rash on my face that never went away. When one area would heal another would start up. This rash was around the mouth. I stopped taking the drug and the rash has started to heal. I am pretty certain that Propecia is responsible. I was thinking that I should change my dose to every other day to avoid the toxicity that is causing my rash. Will this do any good for my hair. I think this will help my rash.
AskDocWeb: Sounds like you could be having an allergic reaction to the Propecia but it may be something else. A persistant rash should be examined by a dermatologist. Using a half dose of Propecia will, of course reduce its effectiveness.
You say that procerin is effective but you also say that there is not proof that saw palmetto combats hair loss? If that is true, why do you believe procerin to be effective?
AskDocWeb: Feedback from users say it works. You must have confused what someone posted with our reply. There have been several studies that conclude saw palmetto is effective in combating hair loss.
Subj: Hard to deal with
My son recently started taking Propecia. His friends noticed that he was getting very hard to deal with and he recently had an episode of very elevated anger over an encounter that he feels was really not a big deal. He doesn’t know why he got so mad, but could not stop the feelings from happening. This had never happened to him before and I feel that it has something to do with Propecia.
AskDocWeb: It is possible but nothing like this was reported by the manufacturer in the side effect list for Propecia.
Subj: Shedding with Propecia
Hi, I have been taking Propecia for five months now. Lately, it seems as though I have been shedding more than I was a month or two ago. Is this natural to go through this shedding after taking Propecia for five months, and if so, will the shedded hair come back?
AskDocWeb: We have heard from other men who started shedding in their first or second month of use. Those who continued taking it said the shedding lasted 4 to 6 weeks. If the shedding lasts longer than two months, we would discontinue use. If the Propecia was working for you before the shedding started and you continue use, I think the “shedded” hair will return. Read more feedback.
