Subj: Shortness of breath with Propecia

What causes the shortness of breath and slight pain in the chest from taking propecia? I seem to be experiencing both.
Timothy
AskDocWeb: Sounds like you may be having a reaction. Please seek immediate attention from your physician.
Subj: Provillus feedback
Date: 7/8/2005
I’ve started to use Provillus and have just completed 2 weeks. I have found that by the end of the 2nd week, my hair is much more fuller already. Do you know how this product compares to Procerin? The manufacturers of Procerin informed me that Provillus is a copy of their product. Procerin is much cheaper ($119.95/6 bottles) than Provillus ($149.95/6 bottles) but the basis of my decision was on the reviews in (other websites), which had placed Provillus as the top product. Feedback on that AskDocWeb and anyone else?
Chris
AskDocWeb: Provillus is being researched right now. You can read an update later.
Subj: Pregnancy and Propecia

My husband in taking propecia currently. We want to start a family soon. Should he stop using propecia while we are trying to get pregnant?
Valjones
AskDocWeb: Judging by the feedback we have received on Propecia, you will have a better chance of conceiving without it. He will have less chance of impotence, higher sperm count and a stronger libido.
Subj: Problem during intercourse
Date: 7/11/2005
I have no problem attaining an erection, but in the middle of intercourse I will lose the erection. Many times I will be close to ejaculation, but it does not happen. This is a new problem that began after taking Propecia. Could this be the problem?
Alex
AskDocWeb: Yes, it could be the Propecia.
Subj: Finpecia
Date: 7/13/2005
I am 27 and started with hair lose at the age 17. I was not instructed about these medications by any one. But at the age of 25 I started with Finpecia the generic group of propecia produced by Cipla. I found no hair growth in the balded area, but there was a noticible reduction in hair fall and the health of existing hair. It was instructed to me to stop finpecia after 3 months of regular use as there can be serious effects on liver! I am a regular jogger and found that there were no problem in my LFT. Now after a break of 6 months, as I have started loosing again very badly. I am planning to start with finpecia (1mg Fin) on a daily basis. I was wondering whether I can take this drug twice a day (net dose of 2mg fin a day) with minimal side effects. I have seen no sexual or erectile dysfunction during the usage.
Finpecia
AskDocWeb: We would consider that to be drug abuse. You would be endangering your health and get no additional benefit from doing so.
Subj: Getting Propecia

How do I get propecia?
Dave
AskDocWeb: You get a prescription from your physician and then purchase the drug at your local pharmacy.
Subj: Permanent side effects from Propecia?
Date: 7/17/2005
I’m an 18 year old that is unfortunately going bald. I started taking propecia about 8 months ago. Everything was fine until 7 months into the drug I found an article online stating that this guy got permanent side effects after taking propecia for a few months and stopping. I started thinking about it and I don’t know if it was mental or they were actually happening to me but I began to experience the side effects. I freaked out and stopped taking the medicine hoping that all the side effects would go away. Fortunately, two weeks later I returned to normal. Would it be ok to start taking the drug again or would I risk getting permanent side effects by doing so?
Frank
AskDocWeb: We can’t tell you one way or the other because we don’t give medical advice here. This website is about side effects so we can tell you that if you start taking it again, you risk the same thing happening again. We suggest that you talk to your doctor about this and then decide for yourself if it’s worth it.
Subj: Changed overnight
Date: 7/18/2005
Shortly after starting to take Propecia, my husband began to have loss of anger control, became extremely irritable and began acting aggressively. It was light night and day! The day before taking Propecia, he was fine. Within 24 hours I could already see a difference in the way he acted. I asked him if it could be possible side effects and he blew up at me and denied it could have anything to do with that. All I can say is, he changed overnight, and the only thing that was different in his life, was the Propecia. He already acts like he needs therapy!

Subj: Propecia reduced semen to zero
Date: 7/21/2005
I have been on propecia for about 6 months. I notice it has helped my hair growth however, it has reduced my semen to zero. I have no ejaculation fluids whatsoever. What should I do to rectify the problem? Is there alternative drugs?
Reg
AskDocWeb: The only remedy we know of is to stop taking Propecia. The only drug alternative is minoxidil and that is applied topically which many find too messy. Other alternatives are listed here.
Subj: Long-term use of Propecia?
Date: 7/22/2005
How long can a man safely take Propecia 1 mg for hair loss?
Keri
AskDocWeb: The drug company doesn’t give a time limit. Some of our visitors would say that you can’t “safely” take it. It’s worth reading what other users have found before trying this drug.
Subj: Safety concerns
Date: 7/23/2005
My fiancee started taking propecia and I have two questions:
1)Can he kiss me on the lips after taking it or should he wash his mouth?
2) We have unprotected sex, I’m on the pill, but we’re not planning on having babies for 3 years, can it affect anyway if I want to have a baby in 3 years or something happen to me?
Thank you so much!
Adriana
AskDocWeb: Although he can kiss you after taking Propecia, some men do rinse their mouth out and wash their hands after handling the pills. But you are not to handle the pills yourself. If you become pregnant while contaminated by is drug it can affect the development of a male fetus. Your partner is much more apt to be adversely affected with side effects.
Subj: Oily skin and tanning problem with Propecia
Date: 7/28/2005
I’ve been taking Propecia for about 2 years. I am Caucasian but have naturally darker skin. I usually get a very dark tan after being in the sun and rarely if ever burn. After about 6 months on Propecia I noticed that my skin reacts much differently to the sun. I burn easily, and do not tan like before, especially on my face. I do get the oil build up on the face, but do not retain the tan color any longer. The rest of my skin has a very dry feeling and also does not tan like before. Is this a known side effect? I’ve never heard of such a thing from Propecia?
Frank
AskDocWeb: We’ve heard of the oily skin situation on the face, but not a tanning problem. Has anyone else experienced this?
Subj: Propecia and emotional problems
Date: 7/29/2005
Since using propecia ( proscar ) I became depressed and major mood swings, I became violent in behavior and destructive. I thought I was going mad. Now I am taking depression medication to over come the side affects. I need to know how many cases are similar to mine.
Gary
AskDocWeb: Volent behavior is not listed by the manufacturer, though we have had a few other reports of this happening with propecia. We would discontinue using the propecia.
Subj: Proscar caused erectile dysfunction
Date: 7/30/2005
I used proscar for two month and I had a side effect which is erectile dysfunction. My hair consultant encouraged me to take it by saying it’s psychological but its not. When I read literature about ED that if your morning erections are gone, means you are likely have ED. I have seen two urologists and both say they have never seen this type of case before. It’s been 13 months since I stopped it but I am not normal.
Another guy had same problem and it took him one and half year to get back to his normal sex life. I’m quite strong, mentally I know it’s not psychological but it’s due to proscar. Do you have any idea how long usually it (takes) so that I can be in my normal life. I think Merck people know about this problem but intentionally didn’t mention on their webpage because this will have adverse effects on the sale of this drug.
Kam
AskDocWeb: This does seem to be a bigger problem than the drug company has admitted. Wish there was something encouraging we could tell you but we just don’t know. Good luck, Kam.
Subj: Concerns about Propecia
Date: 7/30/2005
I am interested in starting propecia; however, I have a few concerns. I hear that a lot of on-line pharmacies sell a watered-down version of the drug. How do you know a pharmacy is honest? Also, my wife is currently pregnant with a boy and I am reading a lot of disclaimers about women handling this drug because of the chances of birth defects especially in the male fetus. If I start to take propecia while she is pregnant is there a chance of the drug being transferred through sexual intercourse resulting in possible birth defect in our baby?
Anthony
AskDocWeb: We believe the watered-down versions are coming from outside the USA. Make sure you are getting the real thing and not some so-called generic, which is counterfeit.
As for the possibility of birth defects, the manufacturer says the amount transferred during intercourse is so low as to not cause any problems. We, however, would wait on starting Propecia until after the baby is born. Read more feedback.
