Subj: Minor improvement after 2 years
Date: 3/24/2006
I have been taking propecia since last 2 years. I have not noticed any major side effects, yet!! As far as results go, it definitely have helped me reduce progression of bald patches. Seems like I am able to restore the condition of my scalp, with minor improvement of hair quality. I am also using Minoxisidil with Propecia.

Subj: 8 years of hair loss
Date: 3/25/2006
I am 28 years male my crown area is ok but my hair are falling since 8 years and I have lost hair from top of the head. I have recently started taking propecia and Dutesteride about 1 week but little confused right now. Should I start with Propecia 5mg for 3 months or continue with 1 mg dose and is their any concern regarding taking propecia and Dusteride together and how effective will these medicines be for me as I am losing my hair form 8 years.

Rajat

AskDocWeb: The 5mg product is Proscar not Propecia. When you read about the side effects here we are talking about Propecia, which is only 1mg. If your Dusteride comes in yellow capsules with red paint then you are probably referring to dutasteride (for reducing prostate size). Only your doctor can determine if that is safe for you based on your medical history and current condition.

Subj: Propecia mood swings
Date: 3/25/2006
My husband has been taking propecia for about 3 months now and I have definitely noticed what Valerie mentioned. The mood swings, irritability, loss of anger control.

Subj: Erectile dysfunction
Date: 3/26/2006
I have recently began to experience some erectile dysfunction while having sex. I’ll get an 80% erection and then lose more of it at the end. I have been taking propecia for 12 months. Could this be a side effect of propecia?

Jeff

AskDocWeb: Yes it can, sorry.

Subj: I feel normal
Date: 3/27/2006
I am 23 years I am using finastirde and mintop combination which is slowing growing my hair…well I am sexually active and I don’t feel any tiredness or anything wen I am using finastride…in future if I marry do I able to have good sex life right now I don’t have any problems with finastride. My doctor said the side effect of finastride that it will decrease the sexual motive but once you stop taking it, it will be normal. I read all the people question lot of people are having this belief in their minds that propecia will decrease their sexual libido or they may become impotent. If you’re positive I don’t think you won’t feel any side effects or it wont effect anything. Well before taking propecia and after taking propecia my erection is same and I feel normal regarding my sexual life.

Subj: Sexual problems
Date: 3/29/2006
I have been taking Propecia for over 3 years. I am now 21 years old and have only recently started to notice a decrease in sex drive as well as erection problems. They do however seem to come and go- some weeks I am fine, and others I have major sexual problems. Anyone having the same problem? Or experiencing this pattern? I have had great results with the drug- I don’t want to have to stop taking it. Are there alternative medications out there as effective? OR- Is there a way to fight the sexual side effects?

Ryan

AskDocWeb: The only known solution to the sexual side effects of Propecia is to discontinue use of the drug. There are herbal products for hair loss like Provillus or Advecia but they are not as strong as the prescription drug, but then they don’t cause sexual problems either.

Subj: Propecia comments
Date: 3/31/2006
I definite have a lot to say about propecia as well. I’ve been taking this prescription drug for over 2 years now. Although I noticed a dramatic improvement on my frontal hair scalp, I began to realize that this super-powerful drug could lead to weight loss, mood swings, temper problems and other negative factors.

Please read this carefully. I am a 25 year old male and it makes me even worst. My weigh has dropped so much and my parents are so upset about my physical appearance. Pls leave your comments regarding this. Thanks,

John

Subj: Losing more hair after 5 months of Propecia
Date: 4/2/2006
I have been taking propecia for 5 months now and have noticed more hair falling out than ever before. Is it at all possible this is because the propecia? Thanks so much in advance!

Joel

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible and if it was just a shedding phase it would have been over with by now. Sounds like Propecia is not going to work for you.

Subj: Hair is thinning at 23
Date: 4/5/2006
Hi, I’m 23 and I don’t have any receding hairline problems but I definitely know I’m thinning. Is Propecia necessary, or can I get a hair transplant. In the dark you can’t tell I’m thinning, but if the light shines on my head, you can see that the entire top part is less dense. Is operation an option for this, money is not an object, I want my hair! Thanks,

Chris

AskDocWeb: There is no “good” solution for your situation. With Propecia comes the possibly serious sexual side effects. And once you start taking it you have to continue taking it or loose all the benefits it provided when you stop.

Hair transplants have come a long way in the past few years but, they are still very expensive and results are not always acceptable. If you can afford it and decide to go that route, we recommend talking to at least two satisfied customers (in person so you can see their hair) before making your decision.

Subj: Side effect of minoxidil with propecia
Date: 4/7/2006
Hi, I have been using minoxidil 5% along with propecia for 4 months now, since last 1 month I started feeling headache, dizzyness and tired, all my blood test, b/p, ekg etc is normal. Is this a side effect of minoxidil, as I stopped (afraid to use further) suddenly and my symptoms have gone worse, how can I get rid of side effects generated by minoxidil and propecia.

I am exercising, eating healthy food, what else? And how long will it take to get back to normal, hope damage is not permanent, as this situation is very annoying. Pls advise. Need help.

Manu

AskDocWeb: According to the manufacturer, the side effects of Propecia last up to a year but at least a few men still have them 18 months after discontinuing.

Subj: Does Propecia regrow hair?
Date: 4/9/2006
I’m a 19 year old male. My hairline started receeding when I was 17. It’s starting to thin out on top, and is thin on the sides. Does Propecia slow the receeding process? Will the hair grow back where it’s thin? Thank you

Ricky

AskDocWeb: Yes Propecia has shown to stop hair loss in 83% of users and regrow hair in 65% of cases.

Subj: Swelling/pressure in temples
Date: 4/11/2006
I am 28 now and started taking propecia back in 2003 when I started noticing my hair was thinning. For the first couple of months I was happy because it seemed that it stopped falling out, as far as I could see, and was getting thicker. From that point on I started feeling this pressure in my head, (especially my temples) that felt like my head was swelling up. I felt this feeling of severe self-consciousness. I also noticed a significant decrease in ejaculate. It would get to the point where I would stop taking the medicine but then after a couple months I would feel better and start taking it again. The last time I had stopped taking this medication the side effects did not go away this time. I no longer take the medicine and still experience swelling/pressure in my temples and a decreased amount of ejaculate. Have I permanently damaged something?

Steve

AskDocWeb: You may find that the side effects take longer to go away but they should dissipate over time. How long that takes is something that a lot of men would like to know, keep us posted.

Subj: Propecia caused acne
Date: 4/14/2006
I took Propecia for about a year, it caused heavy acne to form almost instantly. It’s been 3-4 years since I stopped taking it and the acne has not fully cleared up yet. Any one else have this problem? Any suggestions for solutions?

Shawn

AskDocWeb: Although not listed as a “known” side effect, some users have reported small blackheads on forehead and increased skin oil across face. Two report suffering from acne 6 months after discontinuing Propecia. The only suggestion we have is to cleans your face twice a day and use a good acne product.

Subj: Reflex androgenecity?
Date: 4/18/2006
I have been on propecia for 3 weeks now. I have noticed increase in strength, increase in erections, and increase in libido. Also, I have an increase in shedding. Is it possible I am experiencing reflex androgenecity?

Mikey

AskDocWeb: It is difficult to take you serious when you say that you have all those positive things after only three weeks of use. We’ve not heard of reflex androgenecity. If you are inventing a new term you need to define it.

Subj: Erectile dysfunction
Date: 4/18/2006
I have recently began to experience some erectile dysfunction while having sex. I’ll get an erection but not as hard as before. I have been taking propecia for 4 months. For several weeks my erections were fine, but I noticed not as hard as they had been before taking the medicine. Please HELP!

Ved

AskDocWeb: Judging by feedback, the longer you are on this hair loss treatment the longer it takes for the side effects to subside.

Subj: Risk from hair loss product proscar
Date: 4/18/2006
I would like to know if the woman comes into contact with the tablet (proscar cut in quarters) does that mean she will be permanently exposed to the risk.

Ved

AskDocWeb: No, it doesn’t mean that she is permanently at risk, only if she is pregnant or gets pregnant while the drug is in her system. Read more feedback.
