Subj: Propecia poison
PEOPLE, STOP TAKING THIS POISON. I have been off the drug for more than two and a half years and I still suffer from side effects! There are hundreds, possibly thousands of men in the same situation around the world. Those greedy Merck bastards know pretty well what is going on but refuse to give up their profits. DO NOT RUIN YOUR LIVES, DO NOT TAKE THIS POISON!
Subj: Starting, stopping, starting
I am 18. I noticed hair loss beginning a couple years ago when I lost a considerable amount of weight. I began using Propecia perhaps last December, and it seemed to stop the hair loss pretty quickly. But because it is so expensive monthly, I stopped for less than a month and noticed that hairs were falling out again. So I immediately started on it again and now, a month or so later, I notice much larger amounts falling out daily. Is the effect of Propecia now negated? If I were to combine Propecia with Procerin, would I achieve a level of diminished hair loss more quickly?
AskDocWeb: Whatever you do, you need to commit to doing that for several months. When you discontinue a hair loss product that was working, you go through a period of shedding. Some men also go through a period of increased hair loss (shedding) when starting a hair loss product. We recommend using only one hair loss product for a period of at least three months (preferably 6 months) before adding anything else. Doing that will give you a chance to discover any possible side effects and find out how well that hair loss product works. Once you are sure of that product, then you can add another. Any side effects that show up can be attributed to the new product with a fair degree of certainty.
Subj: Stopping and starting again
I had been taking Proscar (It’s like Propecia as my doctor tells me) for 2 and a half months and stopped for 4 weeks because I got a little scared when I saw a noticeable increase in my shedding. But I have since read that it is part of the hair regrowth process. Also the shedding will end in three months. So three days ago, I began taking Proscar again. I was wondering, because of the stoppage in my medication routine, will I have to start the shedding process again(thus loose more hair), or will it just pick up where it had left off? And say, if the treatment does not work and I continue to lose my hair at a normal rate, will the hairs that I lost during my treatment come back anyway, Or does the treatment sort of eliminate them early?
AskDocWeb: Since you stopped for an entire month the process will have to start all over. The treatment you describe should work but you will have to give it time, meaning several months. You may lose some of the new hair that started to come in, but they will regrow.
Subj: Response to post by Mike about Shrinking testicles:
Yes, I have noticed the exact same side-effect. I took propecia for 2.5 years. My testicles not only shrunk, but they also felt as if they weighed lighter. And I had the same ‘pulled up’ feeling. Also, the amount of ejaculate was lower (this has been reported by others and seems to be linked to smaller testicles). In addition, my penis has gotten smaller and the texture of the skin has seemed to change. Furthermore, every so often my whole genital area feels a bit weird – a numbness feeling. My erections are weaker.
Subj: How long?
How long does propecia stay in the body?
AskDocWeb: The elimination rate decreases with age, but most of it is out of the body within three days of discontinuing. The side effects stay with you for much longer.
Subj: Propecia and erectile dysfunction
I used propecia for about 6 months last year and stopped after I experienced significant erectile dysfunction. It has been 8 months since I discontinued it and I am still not back to normal erections. I have read elsewhere that it may be a year!
Subj: Immunity to Propecia?
I am a 36-year-old male who has been taking Propecia for about 8 years now. I have been pleased with its performance until recently. Over the past several weeks I seem to have been losing my hair. Does the body build an immunity to Propecia after so many years? Have you hear similar reports from long-time users?
AskDocWeb: Yes, sometimes people build up a resistance to whatever drug they are taking and it stops working. That’s one of long-term problems of taking any drug and since there is such a wide range of responses to drug therapy, there is no way to predict if or when this will happen. Sounds like it may be time to find an alternative hair loss product.
Subj: Affect of Propecia on heart?
Hello my name is Tim. I have an important health question I would really appreciate if you would answer. I started taking Finasteride (Propecia) for my hair loss about 3.5 weeks ago. I’m having a bit of an odd side effect. It feels since taking these meds that my heart is working too hard. My beats are a little faster and I think my BP is up a little as well. It often feels like I just got done running a marathon. Ever hear of this? I would really like to keep my hair although I am very concerned about my health. You’ll probably tell me to go talk to my doctor although he will I’m sure tell me he has never heard of such a thing because he is Pro-Propecia. Maybe it’s just me as I do have a long history of heart disease on both sides of family. Had my cardio checked out about 8 years ago and everything seemed fine. Any advice? Sincerely and thank you!
AskDocWeb: Given the history of heart disease in your family, it sounds like it’s been too long since your last cardio work-up. You really need to bring that up to date. There are no officially recognized side effects of Propecia on the heart.
Subj: Lost hair on finpecia
I am a 26 year old male and decided to try something when I noticed my hairline receding a bit in front a few years ago. I decided to try finpecia first because it was so cheap compared to propecia. I used finpecia for about 1.5 years and I feel it helped a bit but I still felt my hairline was receding and there was some thinning on top also. I would still find a certain amount of hair on my pillow, more than what I thought a normal person would have. I decided I would pay the extra money and go with propecia instead to see if it would have an effect. I have been taking the propecia for about a year or so now and feel it is a better product. I can’t say my hairline has noticeably receded further and I find very few hairs on my pillow unlike when taking the finpecia. I will continue to take the propecia and feel it is worth the extra money.
Essentially, my situation was I wanted to start early on finesteride when I noticed thinning. I heard from my doctor propecia is the only drug where you actually have a chance of reducing hairloss. I would recommend starting immediately on propecia if you have any inkling that your hair is thinning. I guess my advice would be when starting on this medication do not go cheap and try finpecia just start right away with propecia and this gives you the best chance, in my opinion, to maintain the hair you already have. I just wish I would have started with the propecia and I probably would have maintained the additional hair I lost when taking the finpecia. It is your hair so don’t roll the dice to save a few bucks, pay the extra money.
Subj: Finpecia doesn’t work
I started taking propecia in 1998 at the age of 23. I got fantastic results. The drug maintained my hair count and my crown area even got thicker. Also, I didn’t notice any sexual side effects. In the summer of 2005, a friend brought back from India a generic version of propecia, called finpecia. I was very interested in this generic drug because it was so much cheaper than the brand. So, I started taking Finpecia in October of 2005. Let me tell you that I wanted this drug to work so bad. I bought 300 pills for 120.00 from United Pharmacies online. That many propecia pills probably would have cost between 500 and 600 dollars, maybe more. Sadly, I’ve come to the conclusion, after 9 months of taking finpecia daily, that it does not work. My crown area has drastically thinned. I’ve decided to go back on Propecia and see if it will repair the damage done by Finpecia. But I was curious to know if anyone else had any success with Finpecia. Like I said, I wanted it to work so bad!
Subj: Just started Propecia
Hi, I have been on Propecia for 2 weeks and will give you feedback soon. I also just received 3 months supply of Procerin but I am not sure if I’ll use it. My question is as follows: can cigarettes and illegal drugs cause hair loss (amphetamines, metamphetamines, LSD)?
AskDocWeb: Sorry, we do not track the side effects of illegal drugs but we would like to hear how you do with the Propecia.
Subj: 6 Months on Propecia
I have been taking propecia for 6 months and my hair has continued to thin. How long should I be patient with this drug? Is this common?
AskDocWeb: The drug company says it may take up to a year to see results with Propecia. In our opinion, if you don’t seen results in 6 months then it’s probably not going to work. Someone has to be in the group of 17% for which Propecia doesn’t work. Congratulation, you are now officially in a minority.
Subj: Propecia side effects
I have been taking Propecia for almost 3 months and it’s hard to notice any results at this time however I have noticed side effects. At this point I no longer get erections or excited by looking at women. I can coax myself into a rather pathetic erection that goes away quickly. I can have an orgasm but its not satisfying at all. A few times I have had bad pain in my testicles. My joints seem to crack more and I have had pain in my left arm that does not go away. I have never had these problems till I started taking propecia. I do hope it goes back to normal or I will be very upset.
