Subj: I like to ask
Date: 4/14/2007
Is that possible to use Proscar instead of Propecia … I mean I’m using proscar and dividing a proscar tablet to 5 pieces and I take approx. 1.25 mg per piece.

Akin

AskDocWeb: We have never heard of anyone successfully dividing a pill into 5 pieces. Could you tell us how you do that?

Subj: Losing eyebrows
Date: 4/15/2007
I have noticed my eyebrows to be thinning dramatically. I heard other men were losing their eyebrows as well. What’s the deal? I heard that propecia stops DHT, but DHT is needed for body hair. I have noticed my leg hair is very thin as well.

Subj: Hair loss product problems
Date: 4/15/2007
I started loosing my hair at age 20-25, then I started with Rogaine. I would get horrible headaches, neck pain and itchy scalp. And greasy hair…so I stopped Rogaine and my hair loss continued. At age 33 started with Propecia, the first 3 months were hell, accelerated hair loss, lost my erection like 3 or 4 times during intercourse and my libido went down and my “load” was reduced in volume. After that I went back to normal. A couple of years ago, lost my job and in order to cut costs stopped propecia. Within days my hair started to fall. As soon as I got a job (two months) went to the pharmacy for a refill. I noticed that the hair I lost never came back (front left, where I split the hair) there is a hole there. I tried Rogaine there to see if I could regrow hair there, but started with the neck pain and headaches again. Still keep a good amount of hair. Six months ago, I started with Proscar cut in quarters, and seems to be the same as Propecia. Moral of the story: I hate rogaine, I recommend propecia or proscar. I hope this helps. Question: I want to regrow hair in my left area where hair is scarce, do you recommend: Hair transplant, Rogaine, laser comb?, anything else?

PDC

AskDocWeb: It sounds like the only option you have left is a hair transplant.

Subj: Homosexual thoughts?
Date: 4/20/2007
Is there any association between finpecia and the onset of homosexual thoughts? I had been fully, unqualifiedly heterosexual, but started to have homosexual thoughts 1 year into taking finpecia.

Bob

AskDocWeb: We haven’t heard of this one before, so I don’t think so.

Subj: ED problems
Date: 4/28/2007
Hello, I read your articles on propecia side effects and have decided to stop using it immediately. I have been using it for 16 days and noticed ED problems. Having used propecia for 16 days how soon should I expect to recover form side effects (mainly sexual) and will there be any permanent hormonal changes? Thanks.

G

AskDocWeb: Since you only used it for 16 days, everything should return to normal within a month.

Subj: How long to go back to normal?
Date: 5/3/2007
I have been using propecia for more than 2 years. I have experienced serious decrease in my libido and sperm fluid. And my sex drive is almost gone. I have now stopped taking the medication and was wanting to know how long before I go back to normal (and at least maintain an erection) or have I caused permanent damage to my libido etc…??? Please answer!

Joseph

AskDocWeb: Since it varies with the individual there is no way to tell how long that will take.

Subj: Terrible side effect
Date: 5/6/2007
Hi, This is probably a terrible side effect, read it for sure: About 24 months ago I used Propecia for my hair loss which had been caused by Sebhoreic Dermatitis and the results were good at first; it reduced the hair loss massively. I only used 30 pills every day and I stopped. 6 months later the hair loss started again and I turned to using special Shampoos instead. Now I’m experiencing something quite rare: I am experiencing urine problems and low-pressure urine, incomplete evacuation of bladder and nightly I wake up and have to go to the bathroom but without any urine coming! All these are the symptoms of ENLARGED PROSTATE (BPH). It seems that my hair loss has not been a DHT-related case and after using Propecia and a probable sudden decrease/increase in my DHT level, now my prostate has expanded! Do you have any suggestions? I was neglecting this problem thinking that it’s a nervous problem till I saw an AD in TV saying that this is a prostate problem and after researching on the NET I figured out its source! I have to see my doctor but I would appreciate your help. Regards,

H.

AskDocWeb: If you used 30 pills every day, that would put you into emergency medical care. But let’s assume you meant that you used it every day for 30 days. That is still not the problem you may think. The active ingredient in Propecia is finasteride, the same active ingredient as Proscar, which is used to treat an enlarged prostate (BPH). It is quite possible that you were developing an enlarged prostate before you started taking Propecia. You may even find that your doctor prescribes Proscar for treating it.

Subj: Sperm problem
Date: 5/7/2007
I have been on propecia for 1 month now, I have noticed that I have very watery sperm now, is this normal? And does propecia lower sperm count? Thank you,

Howard

AskDocWeb: The manufacturer (Merck) has not reported that Propecia can lower sperm count or cause watery sperm. To have your sperm become watery is not normal, please see your doctor.

Read the FAQs, Member Stories for the truth about the damage this drug can do. Low testosterone, loss of sex drive and impotence for life, anyone? Does the thought of experiencing Male Andropause / Secondary Hypogonadism (Low Testosterone, LH, FSH, elevated Estrogens) in your 20s appeal to you? Impotence, brain fog, loss of sex drive, shrunken penis/nuts, decreased ejaculate, genital numbness, anxiety, depression, memory problems…. the list goes on. This drug is very dangerous and you are playing with fire. There are no guarantees with drugs that affect the endocrine system, and Finasteride certainly does produce estrogenic/ anti-androgenic effects and affects the Hypto-Thalamus Pituitary Axis, despite Merck’s claims to the contrary.

Please help

Subj: Thin baby looking hairs
Date: 5/12/2007
I’ve been taking propecia for about a month and a half now (I’m 20) and there are small thin baby looking hairs growing on both sides along my frontal hairline. I see a bunch of hairs when I look close enough gradually sprouting in the area where I used to have hair until they thinned away. And like I said, it’s been a month and a half. At this rate, how would you judge my progress and do you think it’ll get any thicker?

Bart

AskDocWeb: Yes, it sounds like you are making good progress. It may take a few months but those thin light hairs will darken over time.

Subj: Propecia injections?
Date: 5/18/2007
I was listening to the radio the other day and a woman stated that her husband had received Propecia injections directly into his scalp and he grew his hair back. Is this a new therapy?

Stephen

AskDocWeb: No, we have heard nothing about Propecia injections.

Subj: Developed breasts
Date: 5/18/2007
I took propecia for about a year, noticed losing my sex drive and was shooting blanks even though I could still get it up…I stopped using it and developed these B cup breasts…I read that if you stop this happens, but if you continue it will go away. I’ve been back on for 6 months and they didn’t. Now I wonder if I stop I could get size D breasts. What can I do?

Bruce

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you may have misunderstood this side effect. We have never heard or read that discontinuing Propecia would result in breast growth. The information published by the manufacturer states that “Resolution occurred in all men who discontinued therapy with PROPECIA due to these side effects and in most of those who continued therapy.” Judging by that you will have to discontinue using Propecia. Of course you should report this to your doctor.

Subj: Shed but then great results
Date: 5/20/2007
I have been using propecia for about 9 months now. Within the first 3 weeks I began to shed alot of hair. Within 3 months, the shedding stooped and my hair began to grow back. Now, 9 months into the treatment, my hair line is growing back by my temples. My hair not only is growing in thicker but it is darker and not course like it used to be. Everyday I see new small blonde hairs. After a while these hairs become thicker and longer. This drug has worked amazingly for me. I have had no side effects at all. I feel good and my hair looks and feels more healthy now then it did in highschool. The only real side effect I’ve noticed, which I find to be a positive side effect, is that my hairs on my arms are not as thick as they used to be. This is fine by me b/c I though they were too thick to begin with. Is this typical results for as little as 9 months on the treatment, or am I one of the lucky patients who react well to propecia?

Jordan

AskDocWeb: Yes, your results sound typical.

Subj: Propecia and viruses
Date: 5/23/2007
I’ve been using propecia for about 4 years, fortunately I haven’t suffered any of the common side effects, but over the last 12 to 18 months I seem to have been prone to viruses. Could there be any link in these tablets interfering with the immune system.

Steve

AskDocWeb: Nothing has been reported.

Subj: Lost all sex drive
Date: 5/29/2007
My name is Danny and I used propecia for a few days and lost all sex drive and could not get an erection. I stopped using it immediately and it took 2 days for me to return to normal. It felt like my penis got disconnected from my body and I felt very tired. I would not suggest using this drug at all. I really hope they actually take this off the market completely. If my doctor would have told me what could happen I would not have taken it. I got really pissed off after reading this site and seeing how many man have been taking this garbage for months and now they are still having problems after not taking it for months. This could happen to anyone and I cannot believe after all the complaints that they do not change the 1% rule that they have. I believe it’s a lot higher. DO NOT USE THIS DRUG… PLEASE, IF YOU ENJOY YOUR SEX DON’T!

Danny
