Subj: Acne and rash
Date: 5/2/2009
Hi, I am taking Propecia for almost 4 years now. Sometimes I took it for long periods of time and some times I take breaks. My loss hair is in the front and when I see my pictures from 5 years ago and the ones from later you can see a difference, I do not have a lot of hair and still looking like I loosing hair but look better than before. Now I have almost 4 years with a big problem of itchy skin and some kind of acne in my back and nose that some times look like a rash. I visited several doctors and no body can tell me what is going on. I am taking Claritin for allergies for almost 4 years too because is the only thing that calm the itching but the acne or rash still there, there are some medical creams that I have to use and disappear until the day that I forget to use the cream… Now what my concern is that when I start reading this forum I see people that have the same problems than me. Is this possible? Is all this a side effect of Propecia? Can this cause any alteration in your Thyroid levels? Thanks for the help and soon answer. If you guys have similar problems you can reach me at xxxxx@xxx.com
Gilberto
AskDocWeb: If your hair loss is caused by a thyroid problem then treating that may eliminate the need the Propecia. We haven’t seen anything that would suggest that Propecia has any affect on the thyroid. In order to protect you from spam, our policy prevents the publishing of email addresses.
Subj: Not worth the consequences
Date: 5/4/2009
Mood swings and extreme anxiety. I used the product years ago and stopped because of these problems. Two years later I started using it again and could not understand what was happening to me. My wife reminded me of why I had stopped taking it the first time and I realized what was going on. These side effects can be life changing in a bad way if you are not aware where they are coming from. I will absolutely never take propecia again simply because my mental health is not worth consequences of hair loss.

Subj: Cant get an erection as often and reduced libido
Date: 5/10/2009
I have been taking propecia for about a month and a half and have noticed that I cant get an erection as often as I did before and its does not last very long. On the other hand before starting the propecia intake I suffered from sever hair lost and after about a month of use propecia has drastically reduced the hair loss. So I’m not quite sure what to do at this point, on the one hand it works quite well for me and on the other hand I’m noticing a reduced libido. What should I do, continue taking it and see if the side effects gets worse or stop right now?
Reduced
AskDocWeb: Make sure you tell the doctor who prescribed this drug about the side effects. The manufacturer says that the side effects go away with continued use but we suggest reading what others are reporting before making up your mind. Unfortunately there is no way to know if the sexual side effects will go away or if they will get worse. If they continue then you will have to decide which is more important, your sex life or your hair.
Subj: Satisfied with the results
Date: 5/16/2009
I have been using Propecia for about 3 years now and I love it. The only drawback has been the price but other than that I am very satisfied with the results. I am glad to say that I have been born in this lifetime to be able to get both Lasik surgery and be able to keep my hair. My hair was starting to go and now has regrown and is no longer falling out. I have had NO sexual side affects and by having had those side affects with other meds I would be able to tell. I have not noticed any side affects on anything else but who knows what time will tell.

Subj: Propecia transmitted to women during sex?
Date: 5/21/2009
Some reports shown that propecia is not suitable for women as it may cause birth defects. Therefore, I want to know if a man is taking propecia continuosly, then will the contents of the propecia transmitted to women during having sex with his partner(which is transmitted via kissing or sperm) and indirectly will it affect women’s health? Thanks for your reply. I do appreciate it.
Lucas
AskDocWeb: From data supplied by the manufacturer: “No developmental abnormalities have been observed in offspring resulting from mating finasteride-treated male rats (at 488 times the human exposure) with untreated females.” There is no data suggesting that kissing might transmit Propecia.
Subj: Increased hair loss (Shedding)
Date: 5/22/2009
I have been on propecia for just about 2 weeks, I have noticed Increased hair loss (ALOT), I can definatly see my scalp more, seems to have done worst damage at temple areas. Any suggestions? Should I continue use? Is this normal? Will the hairloss come back if I stop using the drug? Noticed significant decrease in sex drive.
Jay
AskDocWeb: That is not a typical response but at the same time it is also a familiar one. There are more than a few reports of increased shedding when first starting a hair loss product. For some the shedding is so bad that they quit taking the Propecia. For those who continued use, the shedding stopped after a few weeks. As for decrease in sex drive, you may want to read some of the posts by others with the same problem. Most men with this problem recover within a year but some of the reports are disturbing.
Subj: Liver counts was elevated
Date: 6/3/2009
I just started using propecia about a month ago and I already notice results. I’m just wondering if this drug will cause an increase in my liver counts. I went to my docs and took a blood test and he said that one of my liver counts was elevated. Can this be caused by the drug?
Tony
AskDocWeb: It might, Propecia, like many other drugs, is metabolized by the liver.
Subj: This is an update of my case
Date: 6/6/2009
I was taking Propecia for about 5 years now, and like 80% of the people here my libido was very low the desire to have sex was very low but I didn’t have big problems when I have it. My sperm count was pretty low and watery like several people here. However if I see my pictures from 2004 I can see a very big difference in my hair; people do not believe the difference and they even asked me if I had surgery!!!
After six months of taking Propecia I started having a problem with ITCHY skin, was really bad and almost make me cry for the desperation of itchy everywhere. I started having problems of pimples (acne) in my back and nose, the elasticity of my skin in my legs was not the same and I started having eczema everywhere in my body. I started taking Claritin every day and the itchy disappear but if I forgot to take the antiallergic one day I would having itchy skin all day long. I never associated this symptoms with Propecia because I was taking the medicine for a while and in my mind if I will have any reaction could be by the first month or weeks taking the medicine and not several months later.
I went to several different doctors (Internists and Dermatologists) but they just send me creams for the acne and the Claritin for the itchy… Some times I stop taking the Propecia for two or three weeks but never see any difference because I was still taking the antiallergic and the cream. In the last year I start having problem remembering stuff like names, I never been good with names but I was talking with a friend or family and suddenly I forget their names… and the doctors only tell me that was stress and excess of work!!!
Around two months ago I run out of Propecia and I started thinking about check in Internet for reviews of the generic pill and save some money. That was when I saw this site and I started reading about people having the same symptoms than I had. In that moment I stop taking the medicine and I went to the dermatologist who told me that I was wrong because the only side effect of Propecia was the fact of lowering the libido. I stop taking Propecia, Claritin and the creams, at the beginning was really bad, the itchy was killing me and the pimples still there but was not worst than other times.
Two month later I do not have the pimples (acne), I do not have the itchy, I fell more confident about my memory (remind the names easily) and the difference with my libido, orgasms, erections and sperm are from night to day. I stop taking Propecia, Claritin, the creams and just substitute for Procerin, I didn’t see any results yet with this medicine since I have only 3 weeks taking it but believe me, Propecia IS NOT AN OPTION for me anymore, I prefer to shave my hair before go thru all this again. I thought that I was ok with my sex live, because I can have sex in the past with out a problem but now I can see a big difference in orgasms, erections, sperm, etc… Good luck and believe me do not use that medicine is not a good one.

Subj: Alternative?
Date: 6/10/2009
I used propecia for 4 months (4 packages of 28 tablets) and applying regaine everyday. I am 22 of age and I have noticed my hair getting fuller and I couldn’t notice I was going bald. I stopped when I heard about the side effects but now after 5 months I am noticing I am losing hair again and it seems I went back to the stage I was when I started the medicine. AskDocWeb, do you have any other alternative I can use to keep my hair? I don’t want to risk the side effects of propecia even though it had worked wonders for me.
Glenn
AskDocWeb: There are two alternatives you might consider, Procerin and Provillus, both of which come with a money back guarantee.
Subj: Decrease the chances of side effects?
Date: 6/11/2009
Hi, I am 26 years old and have been thinning for the past 4-5 years. I have read most of the comments about propecia and I am still undecided if I should take it or not. There is however one thing I would like to ask about propecia. If I was to take it every other day (i.e. Monday, Thursday, Sunday), would that decrease the chances of 1 or more of the side effects of propecia!!! Kind regards,
HB
AskDocWeb: There is no guarantee that you would be free of side effects but that would reduce the possibility of getting any side effects. Of course it would also reduce the effectiveness of Propecia but it would still have some effect.
Subj: Iron and vitamin C
Date: 6/18/2009
And 1 more thing with the Nourkin tablets, can I also take my iron and vit C tabs they are in 1.??
Atta
AskDocWeb: There is no data available on supplement or drug interactions for Nourkin. Nourkrin hair nutrient is a food supplement that allegedly promotes hair growth and strengthens thinning hair. Read more feedback.
