Subj: Missed 4 weeks of Propecia
Date: 8/3/2010
I have been using Propecia for about 8 months and am very happy with the results. My hair loss had completley stopped. Thats the good news. The bad news is that I ran into some major financial problems and missed about 4 weeks of taking it. I just started back up yesterday but about a week ago I noticed that it was starting to fall out again which leads me to my question. Am I going to have to take it for several months to get it stop falling out again bascially having to start over again or does it usually start working again a lot sooner in cases like mine? I really appreciate your answer. Thank You!
Brian
AskDocWeb: The average time to take effect seems to be between three and four months. Since you missed only 4 weeks there may be a period of increased shedding but it probably won’t last more than a few weeks.
Subj: Pain in my testicles
Date: 8/3/2010
I have no idea why i didn’t listen to all the people who are getting side effects from this drug. I took 0.25 mg of propecia for 3 days the last day i started to feel pain in my testicles and my penis went numb, it was like it was dying. Now it is 4 days since i stopped and it has only gotten worse, i cant get it up and if i do it is pathetic. i feel for the worst that this will be permanent and also fear that im infertile. I have alway been a happy guy but im in tears here and feel that my joy for life has been taken away from me, i want to say to all the people who are thinking of taking this drug to stay well away, plz dont take the chance.
Life is over for me
AskDocWeb: If you haven’t done so yet, please check with a urologist. While it is possible that your symptoms were caused by the Propecia, it is also possible to have a completely unrelated problem that may need medical attention.
Subj: Comments regarding Propecia
Date: 8/9/2010
I have a couple comments regarding Propecia, it says that only 1.8% experienced trouble with erections but on this site it seems that most of the people posting are writing about problems regarding that, so I’m a little confused… Also I recently started taking Propecia because my hairline has started to slightly recede. It says that an overwhelming majority maintained the hair they had and that a majority regrew some hair. But it says that Propecia does not work on hairlines. I’m not looking to regrow what I lost in my hairline more to just maintain what I have, but isnt a receding hairline considered hair loss? This product claims that it should at least help u maintain what u have, where it works best for people in the early stages of hairloss which is where I am. So shouldnt this product most likely work in helping me maintain what I have and when I say maintain that includes my hairline?? I’m just a little confused.

AskDocWeb: There is not sufficient evidence that Propecia works in the treatment of a receding hairline. When the manufacturer give statistics about hair growth they are talking about the vertex (top of the head) and anterior mid-scalp area, not the hairline. Although you may want the affects to include the hairline, the manufacturer says it does not help that area.
Subj: Erection problem
Date: 8/12/2010
Hi, I have used finesteride/propecia 1 mg for 26 months, when I started I was 25 years old, I was almost bald from the center and remaining hairs were very thin. But after using it for 26 months I have noticed progressively growth of hair and I was not looking bald at all. But suddenly I have noticed I started getting erection problem as well as it was very difficult for me to keep erection for longer time and even less quantity of semen. Immediately I stopped consuming finesteride, though erection dysfunction has improved little bit and ok to do intercourse but it’s not back to normal after stopping it for 6 months. Still I struggle to do intercourse as well as my interest n excitement about sex is reduced, slight bump beside left side of nipples I have noticed(though I work out every week for chest in gym). I got my blood sugar test too but everything is normal. And in last 6 months after quitting finesteride I have almost lost 60-70% hair which has grown in 26 months. Can you please advice me what should I do?
Rony

Subj: Acne on forehead
Date: 8/13/2010
I was taking propecia for about 4 months and slowly developed many small bumps across my forehead. This eventually broke out into terrible acne just on my forehead so I stopped taking it. 2 months later and it has almost gone, but probably left with scars. Also noticed loss of libido but it’s back now.

Subj: Changes in sexual performance
Date: 8/14/2010
I was on propecia for about a month and both my girl friend and I noticed changes to my sexual performance. I would lose my erection or never get very erect and I do have a very attractive girl friend. I would then also ejaculate while being soft. This lead me to the forums where I read that Propecia will make you become infertile even if you stop using it. Is this true? Have then done any long term studies?

AskDocWeb: Unfortunately data on the possible affect of Propecia on fertility is lacking, and studies of its affect on subfertile men have not been conducted. It is interesting to note that in the clinical trials, the male patients who were planning to father a child were initially excluded from the study. According to the manufacturer, animal studies did not show relevant negative effects on fertility. However, there are post-marketing reports of infertility and /or poor seminal quality.
Subj: Hair or sex?
Date: 8/18/2010
I am in my early 50’s. I had a Hair transplant several years ago. I’ve been taking propecia for several years now. My transplant turned out good, but I didn’t have a lot of donor hair, so I still look bald but enough hair that I get good compliments. The propecia has made my hair thicker and I do grow hair when using it. It has improved my self esteem a lot. The only side effect I have is a sexual one, erection I guess you could call it. But, it isn’t that bad, you can go a week without using propecia and get it on real good with your mate. Then go back to the propecia, grow some hair, and get it on again. I guess a love hate relationship, no just kidding. So in a way it has a beneficial element to it and it will grow you some hair.

Subj: Hard time breathing
Date: 8/22/2010
Hello, I have been taking Propecia for almost 4 month and the last week I am experiencing burning sensation in the side left of my chest and sometimes have hard time breathing. will I develop tolerance so it eventually stop? Do you think I should stop taking propecia?
Yan
AskDocWeb: Both of these symptoms are signs of a heart attack so check with your doctor as soon as possible. Don’t wait to see if they go away on their own.
Subj: Brain fatigue?
Date: 8/25/2010
I took finasteride 1 mg for 3 days I dicontinued from 4th day this is my 2nd week of discontuniuation but I sill have brain fatigue when I work more I will get this effect. What should I do now to treat this brain fatigue?
Rohith
AskDocWeb: What you are calling brain fatigue may be what others refer to as “brain fog” but a more extensive would help. There is one report that brain fog cleared up about 2 weeks after discontinuing Propecia.
Subj: Testicle discomfort
Date: 8/25/2010
I tried propecia for 3 days and immediately had testicle discomfort. I went off of it and it immediately stopped. I then waited two days and tried it again with the same results. What are your recommendations to treat hair loss. My situation is not bad. Just a slight balding in the back of the head but do not want it to get worse. I cannot tolerate Rogaine as I get extremely dizzy.

AskDocWeb: There is a shampoo you may want to check out, Nisim New Hair Biofactors. The company claims 85.7% of users have an increase of at least 30% more hair and 40.8% have an increase of 100% more hair so it’s worth taking a look.
Subj: Volume enhancer
Date: 8/26/2010
What is and where can I buy a volume enhancer to help increase the amount of fluid released in ejaculation.
Tomy
AskDocWeb: Sorry Tomy, we no longer link to sites that sell products. That might be viewed as a conflict of interest.
Subj: Side effects of Finpecia
Date: 8/27/2010
I took Finpecia 1 mg daily only for 4 days (4 doses). I found my penis as limp and loss of early morning erection and some depressive mood. I stopped it immediatley. Can I stop abruptly or do i have to wean off? How long it will take for the side effects to go I took only 4 doses, will it casue any irreversible side effect? I decided to try other modalities for hair loss not finasteride
Rajasekar
AskDocWeb: There is no need to wean off of this drug because there are no withdrawal effects. There is a lack of data on how long adverse reactions persist. That is one of the reasons for this forum, so you can find out how long it took other men to recover. Of course that only works if you share your experience.
Subj: Propecia increased hair loss
Date: 8/30/2010
I have been taking Propecia for two months now and in the last 2 weeks my shedding has increased 10 fold. When I wash my hair, dry it, put gel in my hair, or simply just scratch my head a lot of hair falls out. Before propecia, when I put gel in my hair maybe 15 hairs came out on my hands, but now its well over 50 hairs each time. Is this normal? I have zero side-effects so I want to keep taking Propecia but not if its going to increase hair loss. This is supposed to stop my hair loss, not increase it. Thanks.
Chad
AskDocWeb: There are a number of complaints about increased hair loss from those taking Propecia. It is not mentioned in the list of side effects but it does occur in some men. Read more feedback.
