Recover from the side effects?
i was using hairfin (finasteride) for 6 months manufactured by a pakistani company sante pvt ltd, i noticed that my morning erection was gone and cant get an hard erection while watching porn then i stopped taking it 10 days ago but still hasn’t recovered from it so my question is how long will it take to recover from the side effects?
AskDocWeb: A urologist may be able to help with the erectile dysfunction. Unfortunately there is not enough data available to be able to tell how long it would take to recover.
Major cystic acne and melasma
I took finastride 1.25 milligrams for about 7 months. I never dealt with acne ever in my life and the first week of taking it, I got major cystic acne on my face. I stayed on the medication with hopes the problem would resolve over time. The acne did seem to level off, but I noticed that I was getting ice pick scars and brown spots all over one side of my face (Melasma). I also noticed my blemishes weren’t going away. Since this is a hormonal drug, could this be the cause? Women on Birth Control (hormonal drug) have acne and similar symptoms which would make sense with this.
AskDocWeb: Although a causative relationship between Propecia and acne or melasma has not been established it seems likely that that possibility does exist. Propecia prevents the conversion of the male hormone testosterone into a male hormone called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Testosterone and DHT are the main biologically active forms of androgens, which are otherwise known as sex hormones. These are essential for the development of external genitalia, testes, and maintenance of spermatogenesis and secondary sexual characters.

Cutting proscar into 4 – 1.25mg tablets
Hi. Thanks for answering all these questions. I have seen my question asked, but not properly answered yet. I personally have had good results from Propecia. When I started it in about 2009, I regrew most of my hair. I then relocated back to SA 2010 and I could not afford it. I went back onto Propecia a year later in 2011 when I noticed rapid hairloss. I regrew a lot again.
In 2012 sometime I lost my job and I could not afford to keep up with a 6 months doctors bill and the chronic medication. I thought let me deal with hairloss. Well surface to say, I ended up losing most of my front and crown completely. It’s like two almost bald patches and very thin everywhere else on top. So in 2015 in about July I thought let me try and save my hair again. I would rather have a little hair then be all bald and patchy. Obviously I now have a job etc. So I went back onto Finpecia this time, half the price of Propecia. 6 months down the line, I am noticing my hair is SLOWLY recovering. But once again price becomes an issue.
I now have a child and I have lots of expenses and I need to try save money where possible and my hair. I spoke to my doctor and he agreed to prescribe proscar which I can cut up into 4 1.25mg tablets. He didn’t know if it would affect the effectiveness of the tablet. My question is, if I cut it up one tablet every 4 days into 1/4’s and I keep it in a air tight container, will the pill still digest properly and still be as effective as Propecia? Or am I messing with the science of it? Please help.
AskDocWeb: As far as we know the split portions would still digest properly with no change in effectiveness. Our concern with doing that is about getting the dust caused by splitting on your skin and then coming into contact with any pregnant woman, which might cause a birth defect. The risk is great enough that we do not recommend splitting Proscar.
Male pattern baldness in children
My son has been loosing his hair for two years and was diagnosed with male pattern baldness at the age of 9. He’s 11 now. He’s 130 ‘ds, 5 Ft tall. We have tried coconut oil heated up, grape seed oil. Now we have discussed woman Rogaine2% with y. Is there any product you might suggest safe bough for a child?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Jill, there is no product currently available for children with this condition. The appropriate studies have not been performed on the effects of Rogaine2% (topical minoxidil) in children. To date the safety and efficacy has not been established.
Hormone levels are high
I got my bloodwork and all my hormone levels are high and I mean way high. Testosterone 1196 is this ok to have? I think its the propecia. My doctors want me to stop it for a month and retake the tests so if it comes back I can start i up at a lower dose. I had great results and never has side effects except for this blood level with my estrogen, testosterone and sex hormones. DHT is normal range since I stopped. Any help or advice here??? Will i loses all my hair in month form stopping if I restart it as soon as we figure out why the high levels.
AskDocWeb: The average man’s testosterone level typically goes down as we age. However, 1196 is high for any age. The rate of hair loss after discontinuing Propecia varies from one man to the next but usually occurs over a period of several months. You hair loss would depend on how long the drug was discontinued before starting again.
