Subj: Good results on hair regrowth but
Date: 2/8/2008
I have been taking Provillus along with the dietary supplements (caplets) for about three months with good results on hair regrowth. I have noticed in the past week or so however, what seem to be mild heart palpitations, or what could be described as a “flutter”. I have scheduled an appointment with a doctor to discuss this, but noticed a couple of comments from other users with similar symptoms. I am beginning to suspect the saw palmetto ingredient, and will discontinue use to see if the palpitations decrease. I take no other medications, and am not a coffee/caffeine consumer. Am I on the right track to suspect the dietary supplement caplets?

Douglas

AskDocWeb: Yes, a few others have reported the same with saw palmetto.

Subj: Provillus and Advecia?
Date: 2/12/2008
Can use this and Advecia? Also, is it ok to take Provillus one day, Advecia the next, and alternate between the two? Also, since I hear that heart palpitations can occur, if I limit Provillus intake to one tablet a day or even half a tablet if possible to cut that way, will that mean that no hair growth will occur? I am eating properly, starting to sleep 7 hours a night on most nights, getting less stressed, etc … but when taking Provillus, I was a bit uncomfortable about taking 2 tablets a day as opposed to 1. Please help.

Fred

AskDocWeb: We do not recommend using Provillus and Advecia at the same time. The active ingredient in both is saw palmetto, which is also the cause of the palpitations. Most people don’t have any problems with heart palpitations. Those that do either cut back or quit and the symptom goes away. While cutting down the dosage would reduce the chances of side effects it would also reduce the effectiveness of the product. Using Provillus one day and Advecia the next day would be okay.

Subj: Shedding?
Date: 2/17/2008
Is there any side effect of shedding hair like that which is reported with applying Rogaine to the scalp?

Dchrist

AskDocWeb: In a small number of case yes. So far we haven’t discovered a product for hair loss that doesn’t caused shedding in at least some users during the first few weeks of use.

Subj: Minoxidil was not listed
Date: 2/19/2008
After looking over the ingredients for the pills I noticed that minoxidil was not listed and I was wondering if you have to buy that separate or if is included in the standard 6 month supply? Thanks,

Brandon

AskDocWeb: Minoxidil is not in the pills, just in the Provillus solution.

Subj: Insomnia
Date: 2/24/2008
Insomnia is definitely a side-effect. I am cutting the dosage by half. Hair shedding did not abate. I am not the pill for about a month.

Subj: AllegraD, Nasacort and Advair 250/50
Date: 2/25/2008
I am an allergy/asthma sufferer and currently take AllegraD, Nasacort and Advair 250/50. Do you know if these meds will interfere with Provillus?

Valerie

AskDocWeb: No interactions have been reported but to be safe, you should check with your doctor before taking any herbal supplements when you are on prescription medication.

Subj: Provillus with Propecia?
Date: 2/25/2008
Should you take provillus at the same time as you take propecia…is there risk?

Jim

AskDocWeb: Sorry Jim, we recommend you take one or the other but not both together. The main ingredient in Provillus is saw palmetto and according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, “Saw palmetto should not be taken with drugs that affect the levels of male sex hormones (androgens), such as finasteride (Proscar®, Propecia®) or flutamide (Eulexin®).”

Subj: If a woman uses Provillus
Date: 2/26/2008
I have just started using Minoxidil after trying everything mentioned here. I would like to know if a woman uses the provillus isn’t Saw Palmetto and nettle for men’s postrate? I buy these pills for my husband.

Rita

AskDocWeb: That is true and they also have other uses. A couple of women have reported using them with good success but no enough for us to recommend that. If you get results be sure to report back, other women are also looking at this.

Subj: Decrease testosterone?
Date: 3/6/2008
I’m a personal trainer who workout alot naturally. Me as a fitness guy don’t want to lose and testosterone. Will this product decrease my testoterone? thanks

Greg

AskDocWeb: No, it prevents the testosterone you have from being converted into DHT.

Subj: Not able to sleep
Date: 3/6/2008
I have been taking Provillus for about 2 weeks now the first week was okay but now I am not able to sleep at night. Does Provillus have caffeine in it if not is there something in them that may be keeping me awake?

Alicia

AskDocWeb: Not sure about the ingredients but insomnia has been reported by one other person.

Subj: Using Minoxidil with Provillus
Date: 3/18/2008
I just reviewed the feedback and am in agreement with most of it.. I noticed dizziness last night and noticed heart palpitations, bloating, swelling and severe breast soreness, the first time of using Provillus, last summer. After ordering the product again, this year (2008), I noticed a severely “itchy” scalp, hair loss, this weird sensation under my left arm around my left breast, the dizziness, the acne, the bloating and water retention. I made this ordered from Amazon, and I can say, it doesn’t seem as effective as the two bottles last year. I also noticed hair loss the first time and seemingly health growth, until late last year when it seemed whatever I grew, all left + some! I saw a Minoxidil product on Amazon that I considered ordering (5%-10%) until I read “Wikipedia” and your website here about side-effects..!! I’m wondering if it is the Provillus, or the Minoxidil that is causing my side-effects, because I’m seeing very little results with these last two bottles and am considering just having “hair” sown in where it’s thin. (Help)

Silmaryj

AskDocWeb: That is the problem when using two products at the same time. There is just no way to know which one is causing the side effects.

Subj: Does it work: One no and one yes
Date: 4/5/2008
I am a 33 year old healthy male who took provillus for a little over three months. I noticed after two and a half months that I was having a difficult time getting a complete erection and it took a lot longer to “finish” while having sex. I stopped taking provillus and three weeks later my sexual functions were back to normal. At the time I wasn’t taking any other medications. On the other hand my sister takes provillus for women and has suffered no side effects and swears that it has helped her regain or retain the hair that she has.

Subj: Heart palpitations
Date: 4/10/2008
I have used provillus for two months, initially my hair stopped falling then I had seen a hair growing on the front. But had to give up as my heart palpitations were going high while playing and can’t reach for breath if I run for 5mins, more over lots of pimples started appearing on my face. I am a very athletic person after seeing these side effects had to eventually give up on this.

Kumar

AskDocWeb: It is important to note that heart palpitations also have a number of other causes.

Subj: Regrowth on the entire scalp?
Date: 4/13/2008
Does the hair loss supplement provillus for men work on hair regrowth on the entire scalp, or just the crown area like Rogaine? I’m interested in using a hair regrowth supplement, but I need one which applies to the entire top of the scalp (front and back). Thanks,

Chris

AskDocWeb: According to the manufacturer, “Provillus supplements your body’s natural supply of nutrients and lets the follicles beneath your scalp receive exactly what they need to grow hair.”

Subj: Beta blocker
Date: 4/24/2008
I had a heart attack recently. I am on a beta blocker (motoropol), lipitor and ASA (aspitin) daily now. If I am to use provillus for hair re-growth, would this be any problem to me at this time? Please answer ASAP.

Steve

AskDocWeb: We have not read of any potential problems but when you are taking prescription medications you should always consult your doctor before taking any supplement.

Subj: Any affect on pregnancy?
Date: 4/27/2008
My wife and I are currently trying to get pregnant. Could you please confirm whether taking provillus could have any affect on this, or any resulting baby? Thanks,

Ian

AskDocWeb: There is no evidence of any affect on pregnancy.

Subj: Blood pressure
Date: 5/7/2008
I am 47 years old. I have started taking Provillus from Dec 19th. Within a week I got a severe cold followed by cough and temperature. I went to the doctor on Dec 29th. He prescribed a few medicine and I felt better. I continued to take the Provillus, 2 capsules every day. I felt sick again on April 1st. Severe cold, temperature up to 103. I visited doctor and he surprised me saying that I have blood pressure up to 158/85. My blood pressure was normal, 122/76 on Dec 29th, 2007. What was changed in last three months of 2008 is that I was taking 2 Provillus capsules everyday. Now I have stopped taking capsules since April 2nd but my blood pressure is still not normal. I am worried and talking to doctor about this. Will post additional information as I get diagnosed.

Subj: Provillus with cholesterol
Date: 5/8/2008
Taking Provillus pills along with cholestrol pill may cause any side effects? I have a boderline BP and no medication. Will any ingredients in Provillus shoot the BP? Thanks,

Kish

AskDocWeb: As you can see by the post above, Provillus may raise some people blood pressure. We’ve not heard of any problems with using Provillus while on a cholesterol medication.

Subj: Difference between Provillus and Propecia?
Date: 6/14/2008
Does Provillus help with frontal balding/receding hairline? Is there any difference between Provillus and Propecia?

-Frank

AskDocWeb: There have been a few reports of Provillus helping with the hairline in front. Propecia is a prescription drug which requires a trip to your doctor’s office. Provillus is an herbal product so no prescription required.

Subj: Provillus twice a day
Date: 7/22/2008
If I take provillus twice a day my balance and equilbrium get screwed up like I’m drunk but not, if I take one before going to bed this doesn’t happen.

Matt

Subj: Antibiotics?
Date: 8/8/2008
I have been using provillus for 2 months, will taking anti-biotics cancel provillus out?

Tim

AskDocWeb: That is not likely and no problems have been reported with the use of antibiotics while taking Provillus.
