Subj: Hair removal
Date: 4/1/2007
I Love this product!!! In only a week it has made my naso-labial folds disappear. However I have some facial hair that I need to take care of. I appreciate that I can’t wax, but what do I do in the meantime?
Gwen
AskDocWeb: Since you can’t use a chemical product for hair removal you may have to resort to an electric razor.
Subj: Renova on lip?
Date: 5/26/2007
I just started using Renova .02%. I have fine lines on my upper lip I would like to treat, but the directions say stay away from the lips. Is it OK to use on my upper lip? Thanks.
Katherine
AskDocWeb: If you get it too close to your mouth you will know it. The reason why you need to avoid contact with the mouth is that Renova could cause severe redness, itching, burning, stinging, and peeling.
Subj: Renova questions
Date: 6/9/2007
1. Can Renova .05% cause (or more easy to cause) more peeling or redness than .02%?
2. Will .05% give better or faster result on fine lines or wrinkles than .02%?
3. And why generic Renova does not have .02%, I can only found .025%, are they same? Can I use .025% instead of .02%?
4. Do generic Renova from all different countries work the same?
Helen
AskDocWeb: It would be helpful in comparing these products if all the countries in the world used the same drug manufacturing standards but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s up to the manufacturer what they want to produce. The question of what would work best for you should be decided by your dermatologist.
Subj: Alarmed by skin darkening
Date: 6/10/2007
I am 39 years old and have always gotten compliments on my very fair skin. I have always freckled in the sun but this year I noticed that my freckles were starting to look more like age spots and my fine lines were becoming more noticeable. My dermatologist recommended Renova .02. After applying this product for a month I was alarmed to notice a giraffe-like darkening pattern appearing on my cheek and more patterned darkening around my hairline. Moral of the story? Take care of yourself, stay out of the sun, and count your blessings!

Subj: Thin Skin?
Date: 7/12/2007
Can Renova be used on thin sensitive skin? I was told that as my skin is very thin, using Renova will only worsen it and can cause broken capillaries. Please advise, thanks,
Lilian
AskDocWeb: To be safe, you should consult with a dermatologist before trying to use it.
Subj: Thin skin on lips
Date: 8/23/2007
I am thinking of ordering Renova. I was wondering if I could put a little on my lips to help collagen production. The skin on my lips is very thin and I have white bumps that show through. I really need something to help me with this. Thank you,
Dawn
AskDocWeb: Renova is not for use on your lips. A dermatologist would likely be able to help you with the white bumps and thin skin on your lips.
Subj: I love it
Date: 9/27/2007
I have been using Renova for more years than I can remember. It has totally kept fine lines and wrinkles from appearing under my eyes. I have had absolutely no adverse effects from its use. I am using .05%. I love it.

Subj: IPL and Renova?
Date: 10/1/2007
I would like to have IPL done soon. I am concerned that using Renova would cause an adverse reaction while having IPL treatments. I have had mild rosacea in the past and have a few residual broken capillaries. I don’t use Renova on my cheeks but like it around my eyes and jaw area around my mouth. If really plumps my skin!! I want to continue using it. Any issues with IPL and Renova?
Jen
AskDocWeb: Yes, all skin care products such as Renova and Retin A should be discontinued several days prior to IPL (intense Pulsed Light) treatment. Those creams should be avoided for at least 2 days after the procedure. Your technician can provide directions specific to your condition. Post treatment discomfort such as redness and swelling may last up to 10 days. Do be careful using any strong products after treatment.
Subj: Blackheads and large pores
Date: 10/12/2007
I am 48 and recently started using Renova .05% emollient. My skin is great condition except for the continuing “spread” of blackheads. How does Renova effect blackheads, if at all? Can it help? Is the emollient form ok for someone with blackheads and large pores? Thanks so much!
Kim
AskDocWeb: Yes, it will be fine, it should make your pores smaller and use a gentle cleanser for the black heads.
Subj: Application is key
Date: 11/19/2007
Initially when I first tried the Renova, I think, actually know now, I used way too much. Application is “key”, only a pea size, and I do mean “pea size” and apply very softly to the areas with an upward sweep avoiding the delicate eye area. I, as I believe most folks would, want to apply it to the worse wrinkle areas, which one of is “crows feet” around the eye area…..DON”T!!!! Our skin is way too sensitive in that area. What we all need is a FULL and complete line of cleanser, EYE AREA, and moisturizer however, since Renova, in and of itself is not enough. I am not sure yet, but continue to explore the options. My latest venture is trying DR Medicine Women’s philosophy. I’ll try for a month and see. At least there is a 60 day money back guarantee. Wish me luck. Good luck to all of you as well.

Subj: Post menopausal women
Date: 11/20/2007
Is it safe for a post-menopausal woman to use Renova, and if so, for how long? Thanks.
Deborah
AskDocWeb: No overall difference in safety or effectiveness has been reported between those over 60 and younger users.
Subj: Peeling with very dry skin
Date: 1/17/2008
Hello, I started using Renova .02% 3 days ago and I am peeling around my mouth and my cheeks feel like they are on stinging. I am going on vacation next week and am wondering if I should stop the treatment until I return and will the side effects go away? Is this normal to be pealing like this and feel like I have very dry skin? Thanks,
Norma
AskDocWeb: This is a normal stage new users go through and it does go away but the length of time it takes for that to happen varies from one individual to the next. You may not want to use it if you are planning to be in the sun on your vacation.
Subj: Cannot find Renova Cream 0.05%
Date: 1/17/2008
I live in Puerto Rico and I cannot find the Renova Cream 0.05%. Could you help me to find a place where I can send my Doctor’s prescription so I can buy it? Thank you.
Yolanda
AskDocWeb: Take your prescription to your local pharmacist and they can order it for you.
Subj: Waxing?
Date: 1/31/2008
I just started using .05% cream 5 days ago and am in the peeling/burning stage. How long can I expect this to last? Also, is waxing discouraged while using this product long-term, or is that just during the initial phase?
Cheryl
AskDocWeb: The directions say to use caution but the women who have tried it say, “Don’t wax!”
Subj: Can I still bleach?
Date: 2/13/2008
My doctor prescribed Renove 0.02% for me. I do bleach my facial hair twice a week. Can I still bleach while I am using Reonva? I have to bleach because my facial hair is very dark.
Sandy
AskDocWeb: We’ve seen no mention of problems with bleaching but if you have any, be sure to let us know.
Subj: African American
Date: 2/21/2008
Hi, I am African American and wanted to use Renova for to treat discoloration. Do you recommend this product for African American skin? If so can I use it with Kojic acid which I have been using to treat affected area?
Kate
AskDocWeb: Renova may lighten the skin in your discolored area but see a dermatologist first, especially before trying to use Kojic Acid with Retin A with on your face.
Subj: Using lotion with Renova
Date: 2/23/2008
I have started using Renova and tried to follow the instructions about using only a pea sized amount and dabbing it around my face. For some reason though when I start to spread it around it doesn’t spread. It immediately soaks into my skin. I don’t really consider myself to have dry skin? Is it a bad idea to put a lotion on first before applying Renova at night?
Amoona
AskDocWeb: The instructions say to wash the affected area with a mild soap and gently dry 20 to 30 minutes before applying Renova. If you apply lotion first, the lotion will saturate the skin and less Renova will be absorbed.
Subj: When to apply moisturizer
Date: 3/2/2008
My doctor recommended I use moisturizer BEFORE applying Renova. Do you recommend this? I’m using a collagen boosting serum and then immediately applying Renova. What do you recommend? I’m 46 with relatively smoothe skin, a few freckles and wrinkles around my eyes and lips. THANK YOU!
Susan
AskDocWeb: We recommend you follow your doctor’s instructions but also to read the package insert and directions that comes with the product. If there is an inconsistency between the two then discuss it with your doctor. The directions say to wash the area with a mild soap and gently dry 20 to 30 minutes before applying Renova. If you apply a moisturizer immediately beforehand then you saturate the skin and less Renova is absorbed. That could be a good thing if you had a problem with skin irritation or were habitually applying too much Renova.
Subj: Retin-A and Renova together?
Date: 3/2/2008
Hi, I’m currently using Retin-A 0.05% for wrinkles and scarring. But I was wondering, may I use both Retin-A and Renova (for wrinkles) at the same time? If so how?
Sam
AskDocWeb: No, using both together is not recommended.
Subj: Sulphur?
Date: 4/3/2008
Is there any sulphur or sulphur type ingredient in this product?
Maria
AskDocWeb: No, sulfa is not a listed ingredient in Renova.
Subj: Neck area?
Date: 4/10/2008
Is it safe to use Renova in the neck area.
Bev
AskDocWeb: Renova is for use only on your face. Using it on your neck would be an off-label use and we can not recommend that.
Subj: Why use it?
Date: 4/19/2008
I’ve read you’re not suppose to use it longer than 52 weeks and the effects of the product will go away if you discontinue use, so than why use it?
Tammy
AskDocWeb: The 52 week period refers to Renova 0.02% cream but it does not refer to a maximum time period for use. It’s that the safety and effectiveness has not been proven beyond that time.
Subj: Available on the internet without prescription
Date: 5/21/2008
I used Renova .05 for several years and I really like it. Recently I was told the manufacturer has discontinued .05 and only .02 is available. .02 strength doesn’t work as well. Question, if .05 is no longer available, why do I keep seeing .05 available for sale on the internet without prescription.
Suzzie
AskDocWeb: There are several reasons. You have to remember that the Internet is worldwide. Even if a drug was banned in your country it may still be available in another country. But don’t assume that it is legal where you are. If your local laws require a prescription then it is most likely illegal for you to make a purchase from those websites. And, there is little or no chance of getting your money back if your purchase is confiscated by Customs.
