Subj: I am going to beat this crap and live again

A doctor that I went to see for anxiety 5 yrs ago, i.e. I had anixety back in my 20’s was on XANAX had to to to rehab 20yrs ago the detox was horriffying, vomited 7 days straight 20 x a day broke all the blood vessels in my eyes. Now here I am this dr… starts me back to Xanax, 6 mgs per day, soma 350 a night, serquelxr started at 300mgs which I was not diagnosed with any issue to be on The terrible Med.. then Lortab 10/500 4x day, Trazdone started at 50mgs per day now 300 mgs, a yr ago after the Serquel I started talking non stop, repeating, swicthing subjects, losing things, memory loss I just won my hearing, It also caused me to make my head cluck back & forth mouth jerks.. I found out after begging him to help me stop these meds I caught him doubling them behind my back when I went to mail order.
My family can’t stand me I started becoming argumentative they are so frustrated with me my children, parents they wouldn’t let me be alone with grandchild. Finally I stared cutting back 50mgs 4 days at a time on the Seraquel XR and the Trazdone tonight is last night for these 2!! Just having bit of trouble sleeping but cut out 600mgs per day out of me!! Now next give my body a week or so to adjust to the shock. I want to hit the Soma deparately all these meds were never to be prescribed together he never did any blood work. I cry pray my head stops the talking goes away etc. Hope I am not damaged for good. I agree with the woman about these pharmasuitcals drs the whole healthcare system I trusted him now it got to point where I started to give up lost in a stupor. I rised to the occasion and refused to allow this anymore I have beautiful children & grandbaby. I am going to beat this crap and live again.
Please to anyone mixing as the federal therapsit said at my hearing he could hear in my young voice someone has me on bad cocktail didn’t even see me he was on phone listening. Can I safely step down on The Soma it says do not cut in half or crush. What are the doses this drug comes in? Is there anything lower to start steping down then 350mg tablets Please tell me there is or can I start to take one every other night and cut back safely. I am working with hospital I just don’t want to go to a rehab ever again. I do not do illegal drugs or drink alcohol. Please tell me I can do this for Soma at home as I’ve done for the other two!! Thank you WARNING your Pharmaist is suppose to be your back up if MEDS DON’T MIX – OBVIOUISLY YOU SEE they did study went to 70 pharmacies only 2 knew that the meds they studied were dangerous together. NOT GOOD ODDS!!!

AskDocWeb: Soma is sold in two dosages, 250 mg and 350 mg. We suggest you talk to your doctor about what you want to do and the safest way to accomplish that.
Subj: Bloated stomach

I have taken generic soma for 3 yrs I had bk surgery and only to find out a few months afterwards I need it again. The nuerosurgeon prescribed me Soma I am prescribed 360 a mth. My stomach stays bloated, so is the Soma the problem of this?

AskDocWeb: Soma has not been reported to cause bloating. The only gastrointestinal symptoms noted are nausea, vomiting, hiccups, and epigastric distress. There are a couple of articles at bloated and bloating, that you may find helpful.
Subj: Is it possible to be physically addicted?

I have been taking one soma per night for about 5 years for lower back pain. I also take 1 mg atavin and two otc simply sleep. Is it possible to be physically addicted to these drugs? Is there any danger of seizures if stopped. Thank you. Concerned.

AskDocWeb: Soma is not physically addictive but there does seem to be a possibility of dependence. Withdrawal symptoms have been reported following abrupt cessation after prolonged use. In one study, abrupt cessation of 100 mg/kg/day (that’s about 5 times the recommended daily dosage for an adult) some subjects experienced mild withdrawal symptoms such as abdominal cramps, headache, anxiety, chilliness, insomnia, nausea, and rarely seizures. The patient information for Soma warns that this drug should be used with caution in addiction-prone individuals. You should not stop taking Soma suddenly without talking to your doctor.
Ativan (lorazepam) is potentially addictive, both physically and psychologically. If you stop taking Ativan suddenly, you may experience withdrawal symptoms. These may include anxiety, agitation, irritability, occasional seizures, or sleeplessness. If you need to stop Ativan, your doctor will lower your dose over time.
Subj: One slip-up and the results are DEVASTATING!

My mother was on Soma as long as I can remember. She was addicted to them. She always took way too many. I don’t remember any 3 consecutive day period that she wasn’t messed up on Soma. She would shake horribly and uncontrollably, very slurred speech (like an internal earthquake). Sometimes she would have to crawl on the floor because she couldn’t walk from taking so many. There were plenty of times she would just “fall out” wherever she was. There were a few times she OD’d but was taken to ER and survived. A lot of the time she would take other Rx meds, pain pills mostly, in combination with the Soma, but mostly Soma. I always begged and pleaded with her to get help and she never would. She would always cry and deny any wrong-doing and say I just don’t understand her pain. I dealt with this my whole childhood all by myself because my brother and sister moved to get away from it when I was very young.
When I was 12 she married my stepfather who was the same way she was. Anyway, he died in 1998 from cancer, she died in 2001 from an OVERDOSE! Autopsy reported she had taken the following: 25 Soma, 9 Darvocet, 7 Hydrocodone, 4 Buspar, 1 Methadone. Last thing she’d taken was Methadone (was still in her stomach). 10 years ago still seems like 10 minutes ago!! Therapy has not even worked for me. I do not even like to take Tylenol for a headache. Overdose/toxicity from muscle relaxants, pain narcotics, and the like cause respiratory depression, respiratory failure and DEATH! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH SOMA and ANY OTHER DRUG(Rx or RECREATIONAL)! One slip-up and the results are DEVASTATING!!

Subj: Cognitive effects

I have been using SOMA, initially for should pain, then I think more often it has felt like a crutch for “bad days”. I have needed more and more to get any effects (and my shoulder still hurts 30 minutes later) I am beginning to think it has caused some cognitive effects as well-poor memory, inability to lay down memory when I’m on it which has been everday for about 2 years. I also think it is contributing to a sort of depression AND a lethargy that lasts longer than the effects of the drug. I plan to taper off of it over the next week. I think it could be a useful drug short term but has addictive potential, and harmful long term effects

I just began taking soma as prescribed by my doctor. It does not make me sleepy or larthargic. It seems to help me to be more active. Has it been known to cause increased energy in some patients?

Always take your medications as prescribed by physicians… your meds are there to help you relieve the pain but dont abuse it.

I’ve been taking soma for 3 months now for leg and back pain, I only take it at night because the pain keeps me awake otherwise. I noticed the first few times I took it, I got that “high” feeling, but I don’t anymore, it just takes the pain away. I guess that’s why people become addicted, because you need to take a higher dose to keep getting that high feeling. If you JUST use it for your pain, you won’t become addicted. I just take my 1 pill every night, and I’m fine.

Subj: Soma works real well

I have taken soma for 7 years because I have 3 herniated discs in my neck due to a bad car accident. I personally think that soma works real well I have chronic pain and it helps alot I also get pain medication, but dont take it that much because the soma helps so well.
I have found over time that if u stop taking it which I have gone weeks without it the 2 bad things are that it’s hard to sleep and u can become very emotional very easy. There are times when I havent taken it for a long time that I start to feel over whelmed and kind of depressed and could cry at the drop of a hat, but after a 5 or 6 days of not taking it I go back to my regular self.
I think that if u have chronic pain or muscle spasms this in a great medication, but like anything it can be abused. I read one comment on this site that said a friend of hers took to many and her heart stopped so she died. This is sad but one thing u have to remember always is that it is a muscle relaxer and your heart is a muscle. also if you take to many it will cause your muscles to hurt worse and become more stiff. So be responsible and it will be fine.

Subj: Desperate for help

I am 25 years old. I take up to 15 soma per day and heroin as well. I have been on soma for a year now and almost every day. When I do not have them I find my heart beats rapidly at night. I use them to sleep. Should I seek medical advice? Would my primary hospital help me detox. I’m am scared for my life at this point. And the heroin is just as bad of a habit. I don’t have money for an actual detox. Desperate for help. Please I need some advice.

Depending on where you are located there may be a free clinic in your area but you will likely have to make a few phone calls to find out. The Red Cross provides free telephone counseling services in some cities that may be able to refer you to an appropriate clinic. Churches are another place to try for help as some have support groups set up to help those with addictive lifestyles. In some locations you can dial 211 for information on a number of programs, services, and assistance. The 211 service is funded by United Way, a non-profit organization.
Subj: Addicted to somas

My ex-boyfriend is addicted to somas & has been for some months now. He can take up to 10 a day. He turns into a walking zombie when he is on so many. To make matters worse he mixes them with Vicodins & alcohol. I am trying to convince him to stop before he winds up killing himself. Please, any concrete facts about the dangers of this will be greatly appericated.
