Taking gabapentin helps
Date: 5/11/2012
I have been on soma for about 15 years. I do not feel any craving or heavy need to take. I hurt my back and take soma and endocet 10. I can and have not taken soma for days when i don’t need them. I can also cut way back on perc. when not hurting. Soma never felt or seemed addictive is best when having muscle spasms. Only side effect I seem to have is a little tired in morning drink coffee or energy drink and am ok. Also take gabapentin that helps my back alot.

Doctors limit use of Soma
Date: 5/16/2012
HEY, I use soma’s and I have total nerve damage. They help me deal with a lot of it. The problem is, your doctor will only give you a certion amount.

S.

AskDocWeb: That is because of the potential for abuse. Cases of dependence, withdrawal, and abuse have been reported with prolonged use of Soma.

Maxed out
Date: 5/16/2012
HEY, I use soma’s and I have total nerve damage. They help me deal with a lot of it. The problem is, my doctor gives me 120. I’ve heard of doctors giving 180, but my doctor said she’s maxed out. What ever that mean’s. I would take 1 every hour if I could, But I only get 120 a month. What’s the highest a mount anyone can have.? I’m not on any pain med’s.

S.

AskDocWeb: It sounds like your doctor has set a limit on how many you receive. That may be based on the likelihood for abuse.

Soma death
Date: 5/19/2012
My sister was found dead in her house on Mothers Day due to Soma she was only 45 and she would take about 13-15 Somas a day. Do not take these pills they are very dangerous and make it so your body can’t function!

Detoxifying effects from short term use?
Date: 5/20/2012
I’m a bilateral cancer survivor and just had a dbl mastectomy with expanders. The pain was so strong, I was sent to a Pain Mgmt Dr. I was placed on Soma 350 2 x a day and a fentanyl patch 12mc 1 every 3 days and Dilaudid 2mg once or twice a day. Im having surgery in a month to have my implants. Im worried with all I take, how will they put me under, will I have to detox 2 weeks before surgery? Im still in pain today… Just curious.. Ive only been on ALL 2 for less than 3 months. Will I still experience the same detoxifying effects as a long term user?

Cancer Gal

AskDocWeb: As long as you don’t take more Soma than prescribed, short-term use is not likely to cause any detoxifying effects when discontinued. Surgical procedures vary with the individual so it is a good idea to discuss your concerns with the surgeon beforehand. Your peace of mind is worth the effort to do that. Good luck with the surgery.

Elimination of Soma
Date: 5/26/2012
How long does it take to get soma out of your system if u took three?

Nicole

AskDocWeb: Soma (carisoprodol) has an elimination half-life of 2.4 hours so it’s out of a healthy person’s system in about 12 hours. Since Soma is metabolized by the liver, elimination time would be extended for those with reduce liver function.

I can’t take the abuse any more
Date: 6/9/2012
My mother is taking soma, valiums and oxycodone I notice that she becomes very violent and abusive both physically and verbally I don’t know if it is caused by one or a combination of all the drugs . It seems that as soon as she gets her meds she is holed up in her rooms for days sleeping . Then after about a week the violence begins . The worst part is she denies having violent out burst at all . Could she really have no memory ? What can I do I can’t take the abuse any more . Please can anyone help my family ?

Janine

AskDocWeb: Hi Janine, sorry to hear about these problems with your Mom. Look up domestic violence in the yellow pages of your phone book and call them. They can help you with counseling and if needed, a shelter from the violence. Most importantly they can help you make a plan for safely coping with your situation.

Wondering about Soma
Date: 7/13/2012
I have read so many stories about Soma. I was in a accident 14 Years ago, Soma 2 a day. Now the insurance company is getting worse to get. So I went without for a week, then decided I am done with medication. Over the years with 4 back surgeries I was perscribed Dilaudid, Morphine, Imitrex, and so many other drugs which I was affraid to take. I am in pain all the time, but I think there has to be a better way than pills. When you go to the E.R. for pain and migrain they think you have a problem. I have been without Soma for 6 weeks and wonder if I should take Soma when I need it. I get mixed feelings.

Cathleen

AskDocWeb: Remember that feelings can fool you and they need to be verified before making a decision. In medical matters that is usually done with the advice of your doctor.

Great for sleeping
7/17/2012
I have been taking soma for 10-12 years and I like it because it not only helps with cramps but is great for sleeping and I do not have a hang over as I did with other sleep aids. But be careful.

Ready to throw in the towel
7/31/2012
My husband has been taking hydrocodone 10 mg tablets for 8 years, now he is also taking flexarill and Somas, he has memory loss, anti social, leaves work early everyday or calls off completely, he is very distant and drinking heavily also. When I confront him that he has a problem he tells me I overreact but I know he is seriously addictted. Is there anything I can do? Ready to just throw in the towel, I do not want to live with an addict.

Anonymous

AskDocWeb: Many drug users deny they have a problem and won’t seek help on their own. Have you considered a planned intervention? That’s where family members, friends, teachers, clergy members, or others join together to confront someone about the consequences of addiction and persuade the user to seek treatment. A note of caution: This is not something to attempt on your own. Careful planning is required to organize the intervention properly so that it can be successful, but a poorly planned confrontation can make the situation worse. An addiction specialist, psychologist or mental health counselor can help you organize the intervention. Soma report394041Page 42434445Last Page 48
