I agree with Lynn of 7-31 about ppl taking them like water when they don’t really need them, and messing it up for ppl who truly hurt.

Locret and Soma?
11/29/2012
Side effects : taking locret and soma together?
Cathy
AskDocWeb: Lorcet is a combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen. There is a significant interaction between soma and the hydrocodone in lorcet; both increase sedation of the central nervous system and/or respiratory system. This depressant effect may be increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in the elderly and patients who are debilitated.
According to drugs.com, “During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.”
Soma – outside the box
1/7/2013
Although generally utilized as a muscle relaxant, after my mother passed away, although I am on a great deal of medications for sleep, they do not work…and my doctor at the time ordered me Soma as a sleep aid. It works really well if you do not take too much of it. If you take too much (as I found out the hard way), you can wake up with food in your mouth, bed, sleepwalk, talk, eat..etc. Be careful when using it. I am glad that my doctor had thought outside the box and prescribed it for my sleep (or lack thereof).

Withdrawals?
1/9/2013
I really, really wish people would stop saying soma causes withdrawals when they say they are taking xanax, oxycodone, alcohol, or whatever else along with it. look i have been on soma, oxycodone, valium, klonopin, and xanax. the very easiest one to come off of is soma. i don’t take any other drugs with it besides caffeine. i’m only on soma now, and maybe i will even get off that soon. forget about oxycodone, klonopin, and especially xanax. you will be sorry as hell or worse when you run out of those drugs. just don’t bother at all with benzos or oxycodone. who needs their opiate receptors shutting down, and benzos rewiring your f*cking brain. remeron is a motherf*cker to get off too. their is a class action lawsuit against that drug. just my two cents…
If you take soma it does a pretty damn good job of easing anxiety, tension, and giving you a little relief. so don’t mix it with other heavy drugs because it will potentiate the hell out of them and making them that much harder to get off of.

Menorrhagia?
1/24/2013
Could Carisoprodol cause Menorrhagia? I am taking Carisoprodol or Soma (not compound) and I’m having menorrhagia. Could this medication cause this side symptom?
Chachi
AskDocWeb: Carisoprodol has not been reported to cause any menstrual irregularities.
Menstrual bleeding that is significantly heavier and/or longer is called menorrhagia.

Taking too much Soma or mixing Soma with other substances can and will kill you! Overtime or a first time experience, it doesn’t matter. Soma took someone I loved because it was not used as intended. Also, as Soma is habit forming, addicts or recovered addicts should find a suitable alternative to Soma. If someone you live is taking more than the prescribed dosage of their Soma or they are mixing it with other substances (including cold medicine) than please stop it now before you lose them like I did.

For the record

I really wish people would stop saying on here how someone died from a soma overdose. I can’t imagine how many soma you would have to tak to overdose on them, but it would have to be a staggering amount. You can die from drinking too much water. If you take soma you SHOULD NOT be taking any other drugs with it or drink alcohol. When you start mixing soma with alcohol, oxycodone, benzos, etc., yes you are going to run into problems and an overdose is possible BECAUSE of the other drugs you are mixing with it. On it’s own, it is a great drug.
I am prescribed it and I do not drink nor will I mix it with other drugs. I do not experience any withdrawal from it other than wanting it. It is certainly not like benzo withdrawal(want to go to hell?) or opiate pain killer withdrawal that make you feel like a zombie. How opiate based pain meds and benzos which will totally destroy you in withdrawals are easier to be prescribed than soma which has mild to no withdrawal and no going to hell when you run out is beyond me.

Concerned about long term use
Date: 2/15/2013
I take Soma for Fibromyalgia pain & severe muscle cramping after a spinal fusion surgery. I take less than the recommended dosage, taking only 1/2 at a time & usually on a PRN basis altho I do take 1 whole one at night along with 1/2 an Ambien. I am concerned about long term use of both of these drugs.
Barbara
AskDocWeb: Long-term use of Ambien for insomnia has traditionally been discouraged for reasons that include concerns about such potential adverse effects as cognitive impairment (anterograde amnesia). The safety of long-term use of Ambien remains to be determined.
The long-term use of Soma presents several health concerns. The first of these is the possible addiction to the sedative effects of this drug. Because Soma contains aspirin, long term use could result in stomach irritation leading to ulcers. Long term use has caused neutropenia, jaundice, and increases the risk of grand mal seizures.
How long can Soma be detected?
Date: 2/16/2013
My friend has taken alot of soma over a period of about 6-8 weeks or so. does the amount she took build up and stay in her system longer than if taking regular doses? If it does build up, how long can it be detected in urine? thaks
Ricky
AskDocWeb: Soma has a half-life elimination of 2.4 hours but to detect it drug tests check for the presence of the active metabolite meprobamate. This is what the drug turn in to once processed by the body. This particular metabolite has a half-life elimination of 10 hours in healthy individuals and may be detected for up to 50 hours after the last dose.
No side effects

I have taken 6 soma after a badly botched neck fusion and then 2 more later on, each 1o hours and one in the front and then 3 days later on in the back. I have NO euphoria, no sleepy effects, just relief. Now (being Work Comp, my worker sent completely false information to the review board and based on that false info they have not cut me down to 3 a day and that will only be short term. I hate Work Comp. They don’t care one bit about the patient. And actually if anyone knows how to fight this liar, I would love to know how. But back to Soma it has saved my life for many years, now I don’t know what I will do!
