Subj: Profuse sweating
Date: 9/19/2007
I’ve been taking 25mg of tenuate twice a day as prescribed by my doctor. Recently, I’ve noticed a large increase in my sweating. Direct sunlight will sometimes trigger pretty profuse sweating. Is this caused by the Tenuate and can you suggest an appetite suppressant that might not have these side effects?

Shane

AskDocWeb: They’re all basically the same in that regard. You should talk this over with your doctor and maybe come up with something else to try.

Subj: Face feels swollen and saggy
Date: 9/30/2007
Can tenuate cause your face to feel swollen and saggy in the jowls area? Didn’t have this before. Also started lamictal. Also what are the withdrawal symptoms with tenuate?

Milena

AskDocWeb: That should not be happening, please report this you doctor.

Subj: Legally way to get a prescription
Date: 10/5/2007
I used tenuate dospan YEARS ago, and was able to change my eating habits, exercised regularly and lived a healthy life. In doing so, I lost approx. 55 lbs. I am now, 20 years later, up to the 50 lbs. overweight again. I would love to use tenuate dospan again, however my doctor will not prescribe it. Is there any way legally I can get a prescription without changing doctors? Thanks.

Janie

AskDocWeb: You don’t have to change doctors to get a second opinion. On the other hand, if there were medical reasons not to use the drug then it would be in your best interest to follow your doctor’s advice, there are alternatives.

Subj: Best weightloss pill by prescription?
Date: 10/10/2007
Hi, I would just like to ask what is the best weightloss pill by prescription? I have been going to a weight loss clinic for about 6 weeks. I was put on phermentizine 105mg, they didn’t work. Then adipex 7.5 also no good, was starving to death, then fastin. Now the doc gave me tenuate 75 mg. Is this 2 many different kinds in such short term? But most people say they have to make there self eat. I have been under 1200 calories a day, lifting weight and cycling around 20 miles a day and still only am able to lose 1 pound a week. My friends that go with me hardly ever exercise and eat junk occasionally and can lose 5-7 pounds a week so I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Can you please tell me if tenuste is stronger and better that adipex because I guess I have a high tolerance or something. Thank you,

Lisa

AskDocWeb: People respond in a verity of ways to drugs and what would be best for one person could be harmful to another. Those friends that go with you to the clinic have a different genetic makeup and dietary history. There is nothing you can do about that but, I say that losing one pound a week is great progress. Once you loose that weight you have a better chance of keeping it off than your friends do. Watch over time and you will see them quickly gain it back while you get to keep it off, congratulations.

Subj: I am a happier woman
Date: 10/18/2007
I’ve been taking tenuate for about 6 months and have lost close to 40 lbs. Nothing has worked for me in the past. I am a happier woman…The only thing I notice is that it has increased my OCD symptoms (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Otherwise, it has actually helped me to feel full for the first time since childhood. It amazes me that I now get the trigger!

Subj: Cut tablet in half?
Date: 10/31/2007
Hi there, I have just been taking tenuate for the last three days – (once a day in the morning as prescribed) but I get so hungry at 4:00PM in the afternoon – is tenuate meant to reduce cravings or suppress hunger pangs. Should I wait for a couple of days before I start feeling the effects. Someone suggests that I cut the tablet in half and take half in the morning and half in the afternoon- will this help?

Angela

AskDocWeb: You need to ask your doctor about making any changes in your prescription, such as splitting the pills.

Subj: Hiding taking tenuate
Date: 11/1/2007
Can a person be addicted on Tenuate because it’s a drug? I mean is it like other drugs, heroin or something? I’m so concerned because I’m hiding everyone that I’m taking tenuate.

Lili

AskDocWeb: When you feel like you have to hide something, that may be a sign that you are doing something wrong. In this case it could damage your health. Other people have found this drug to be psychologically addictive so please, discuss this your doctor.

Subj: Any side effects?
Date: 11/2/2007
I have a question about this product. I want to know weather it has any side effect or not? I want to use it for weight losing. I will be really thankful if you help me.

Elham

AskDocWeb: Yes, the side effects of Tenuate are listed here.

Subj: Tenuate and nursing
Date: 11/5/2007
One of my friends recommended me tenuate for weight loss after delivery. My baby is 6 months and I still milk her. My question is, can I take tenuate and doesn’t it have any side effect on my milk and my baby? Thanks

Rehana

AskDocWeb: Don’t take Tenuate while nursing without first talking to your doctor.

Subj: Tenuate and blood pressure medications
Date: 11/7/2007
I was just prescribed Tenuate 25mg and instructed to take 1/2 tablet twice a day for the first 7 days. I take Lisinopril for high blood pressure and my reading today was 132/90, is it ok to take this medication with being on blood pressure medications?

Jen

AskDocWeb: Only your doctor can decide if it is safe for you to do that. Please discuss this with your doctor.

Subj: How long can I take Tenuate?
Date: 11/26/2007
I have depression and am on 60 mg of cymbalta I recently went on a diet plan where I was prescribed tenuate. I believe that the combination of the two was a good fit overall. Yes, my appetite was curbed but more importantly my mood was elevated. I felt normal. Since you advise this may be addicting I wonder how long may I take tenuate and/or is there something like tenuate that would react nicely with cymbalta?

Kathy

AskDocWeb: Typically this medication is usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks.

Subj: How long?
Date: 12/14/2007
I’ve been taking Tenuate for about 3 weeks and it seems to be working for me. For how long can I continue taking it?

Armaghan

AskDocWeb: That is up to your doctor, but it is a short term drug.

Subj: Not loosing any weight
Date: 12/24/2007
I’ve been on Tenuate 25mg for a couple of weeks now. I was on Phentermine for a few months. I lost 20+ pounds. I eat right, exercise moderately, my blood pressure is staying within reason, heart rate stays between 88-100. (I check it every other day). I don’t have a big appetite (never really did before). I’m not loosing any weight. I try to eat at least twice a day, small portions. Also, the first week of taking Tenuate – I did have some very pleasant dreams! Any suggestions – give it another couple of weeks?

Lisa

AskDocWeb: Most people give it more time to work, several more weeks at least.

Subj: Blood pressure concern
Date: 12/31/2007
I’ve just started taking tenuate for weight loss thru a weight loss center (MD operated). I was on phentermine but started feeling a little too jittery and my blood pressure which had gone to normal after losing 40 lbs. had started rising. He felt the tenuate would have less effect on my blood pressure. I do take 2012.5 mg of lisinopril HCTZ 1/day for the blood pressure. I am also taking sertraline HCL (100 mg) 1/day. My 2008 resolution was to quit smoking and my doctor prescribed Chantix. I have not started taking this yet as I would like to know if this combination of medications is safe for me. My weight loss doctor is fully aware of all the medications. My GP does not know I am taking the tenuate but did know I was on the phentermine. Both of them said it should be okay. Could I get your opinion?

Subj: Extremely dry mouth and headaches
Date: 1/4/2008
I have been taking tenuate for about 2 weeks now. I have lost 5lbs. I am suffering from extremely dry mouth and headaches. I feel thirsty all the time and I cannot get enough to drink. My dreams have been none other than amazing as I saw someone else comment on their dream state. I am not feeling that this medication is working as well for me as some of the other people have posted here. Am I doing something wrong? I take 1 75mg pill once a day and I take it around 10:00am. Usually I am not hungry until around 6-7pm. This medication is making me skip lunch altogether.

Helen

AskDocWeb: A lack of water intake can cause both dry mouth and headaches.

Subj: Scared
Date: 1/26/2008
I want to get on this but I’m scared to get off. I read you saying it’s addictive and when you try to quit taking it, it causes depression and stuff. How do I take it for a month or so and then get off?

Arielle
