Subj: Glucophage

What is glucophage? Thx,
Dmitc
AskDocWeb: Glucophage is an oral antidiabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. That is the non-insulin-dependent type. Diabetes develops when the body becomes unable to burn sugar and the unused sugar builds up in the bloodstream. Glucophage decreases the production of sugar in your body which helps your body respond better to its own insulin. However, it does not increase the body’s production of insulin.
Subj: Teunate retard 75mg
Date: 7/9/2008
I have found teunate retard 75mg while I take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the early evening leaves symptoms to a minimum. This product works better than any other and I would advise it for 20 pounds or less. I used it because I gained 15 pounds over a year and it was making it very difficult for my knees after major knee surgery. It is an oldie but a goodie and I had previously used it 25 years ago for the same weight loss which was always sucessful. It is a good product for people with minimal ability to exercise, and less caloric intake but not to be used as an exchange for one or another. Hope this helps.

Subj: Tenuate diet pill
Date: 7/10/2008
I just got a prescription for Tenuate but it is only 25 milligrams….will this do anything? Sounds like the norm is 75 milligrams.

AskDocWeb: The dosage is based on medical history, present condition, and desired results which vary from one individual to another. What may be right for one person could be too much for another. Fallow your doctor’s instructions.
Subj: Phentermine tenuate
Date: 7/10/2008
I was on Phentermine 37.5 mg 2 pills a day for about 2 years on and off (of course started out on less, but worked up to 37.5 2x’s), about 2.5 years ago. I was going to a weight loss clinic in IL where I don’t really think they cared too much about how long someone was on what. Regardless, when I was on this I lost between 15-20 lbs. I was about 155 (I’m 5’7″) when I started and at my lowest I got down to 137. At 140lbs I am a size 8 and can wear some 6’s (so I guess technically when I got down to 137 and was comfortably a size 6 they probably shouldn’t have kept giving me the pills).
Anyhow I moved to CO and was unable to obtain the Phentermine as easily as I did in IL. I went through major withdrawls, basically gained all of the weight back, plus some and was always very tired. I will admit I was definitely dependent on this (I use to take Ephedrine before it was taken off the market – that’s when I found Phentermine). I have been taking some type of metobolic enhancement drug for about 10 years on and off and I know I’ve screwed my metobolism up so much, that when I am not on something, no matter how healthy I eat or work out I still gain weight.
So anyhow I finally found a clinic out here and started taking Phentermine again, but only 30mg 1 a day. Since I started about 12 weeks ago, I lost a little weight maybe about 5-8lbs, I am about 152 and between a size 8-10 and my goal weight is 140 (a solid size 8), I can’t seem to get into the 140’s and of course now I’ve built up a tollarance to the Phentermine. I have to say my favorite thing about the Phentermine is the energy boost, especially at work.
So I had another appointment today and the Dr. put me on Tenuate 25mg 2 a day (in the morning). I just started it today and it’s been about 3 hours since I’ve taken my dosage. I am a little worried because I don’t notice anything right away like you do with Phentermine. I realize that everything works differently for different people. The doc told me that this wouldn’t give me the same energy boost as phentermine, but she said that she’s had more success with Tenuate in her patients than with Phentermine. Also I had a B12 injection today. I am just wondering aside from the obvious, noticeable differences between Phentermine and Tenuate (like the immediate energy), what are the medical and or chemical differences. Why would Tenuate respark my weight loss after I built up a tollarance to Phentermine. I guess I am hoping someone will write in with their success story after being on Phentermine and changing to Tenuate. Sorry for the long e-mail. I hate feeling stuck in this rut.

Subj: I want to quit smoking
Date: 7/14/2008
I just started taking tenuate. I want to quit smoking, will I get an increase of apetite due to this? Will I gain weight?
Lee
AskDocWeb: Many people find that quitting smoking is accompanied by weight gain so combining your quit smoking efforts with dieting is a good idea. Just remember that lifestyle changes must include an increase in activity level to be successful.
Subj: Excessive hair loss
Date: 7/29/2008
I am having excessive hair loss – I only have been taking the pill for about 6-8 weeks now (down 15lbs). I think I will stop (I really like my hair).

Subj: Drug interactions?
Date: 8/15/2008
I’m seeing a doctor who has prescribed me Lasix, Potassium Chloride, and the Tenuate 75mg. After entering the imprint in the drug-finder, I now know that I’ve been prescribed the time-release pill. I’m also on Seroquel 300mg/night, which is the reason for the fluid retention, 60lbs of weight gain in 14 months, and take klonipin as needed. The first diet pill that my doctor tried me on was phendametrazine, which worked for all of 2 days. Does my doctor know what he’s doing, or does this sound like a dangerous combination of drugs? I have seen 2 endocrinologists, 1 nutritionist, 1 dietitian, and now my current doctor, who only treats weight loss patients. I do not have epilepsy, but did have one seizure in my lifetime, roughly 4 years ago. Does this time-release pill sound like a good fit for my profile? I take Seroquel to negate hyperactivity and insomnia. The phendametrazine did not affect my energy levels at all. Please help!

AskDocWeb: We found a warning about the use of Klonopin with alcohol, it intensifies the effect of alcohol, but not between the drugs. You’ll have to check with your doctor to find out if it is safe in your situation.
Subj: Tenuate and hydrochlorothiazide
Date: 9/3/2008
I was just put on tenuate by my doctor who wants me to loose weight because of my high blood pressure. He also prescribed Hydrochlorathiazide for my BP. Is it safe to use the two together? I have taken phentermine in the past and had really bad side effects. Is tenuate like phentermine? Will I have the same side effects?
Angela
AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any drug interactions between tenuate and hydrochlorothiazide. Many of the side effects are the same for Phentermine and Tenuate but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will experience any. If your doctor thinks that it is worth trying then follow his advice. It’s possible that you may not have any side effects.
Subj: Can’t sleep
Date: 9/10/2008
I have only just started taking tenuate retard and can’t sleep and have become very forgetful how can I over come this? It’s only the second week and my bmi has gone down to 29!
Maria
AskDocWeb: If you take Tenuate too close to bedtime it may interfere with your sleep.
Subj: Difference between phentermine and tenuate?
Date: 9/16/2008
I haven’t started taking any pills yet, but I would like to know the difference between phentermine and tenuate? Right now…I weigh about 200pds. and not too happy, what would u recommend?
IRIS
AskDocWeb: The purpose of this website is to discuss side effects. We recommend that you let your doctor decide what would be the most effective drug to help you loose weight.
Subj: Elevated ALT GGT
Date: 9/17/2008
I have been taking Tenuate for eight weeks now. I just recently had my blood work done for a weight Loss program and they found that my AST, ALT GGT were very elevated. AST at 77 ALT at 73 and GGT at 96. Would Tenuate be a factor? With these levels should I be concerned?
Teresa
AskDocWeb: The normal range for ALT is 10-40 units per liter. ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase) is an enzyme specific to the liver. When this enzyme is elevated, there is a good chance that your liver is under stress or may be damaged.
The normal range for AST is 15-50 units per liter. AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) is found more abundantly in the kidneys, in skeletal muscles, brain and red blood cells. An elevated level of AST is not as specific for liver damage/stress as is ALT but elevated AST in the presence of elevated ALT heightens the likelihood of liver damage or stress.
The normal range for GGT is 3-60 international units per liter. GGT (Gamma-glutamyl Transferase) is found mostly in the liver. It is one of the biggest indicators of liver function.
There are many possible causes of elevation in liver enzymes such as fatty liver, alcohol related liver disease, and problems with the bile ducts are among the common. Although there are usually no serious causes for this elevation, it may be necessary to do some tests including an ultrasound of the liver and bile ducts, and sometimes a liver biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. We suggest you see a gastroenterologist.
Subj: Did I hurt myself?
Date: 10/28/2008
I have been on tenuate for about a month with no results, my new doctor perscribed me phentramine. He knew I was on the tenuate. My question is, if I took tenuate on Monday, did I just hurt myself by taking phentramine on Tuesday?
Ashley
AskDocWeb: That is not likely. If there were a potential problem your doctor would have warned you. Just to be on the safe side we checked for drug interactions but none are listed.
Subj: My throat is swelling
Date: 11/11/2008
I have a cold nodule on my tyroid, since using Tenuate (over two month) I have notice that my throat is swelling, could it be Tenuate? Or it is my imagination?
Marjaneh
