Subj: Addicted to Ultram
Date: 9/18/2009
I am a recovering opiate addict. In treatment my roommate was a physician who will of course remain nameless. His drug of choice was Ultram and Ultram only. The consequences of his addiction to the medicine were quite severe which included the suspending of his medical license. I realize this is not a personal experience, however, I do think it shows the seriousness of becoming addicted to Ultram or any other opiate or opiate-like pain medication.

Subj: Depression and crying
Date: 9/20/2009
I have been taking Ultram for about a month for a plantar fascia tear injury in the arch area of my foot and joint pain. Every step I took and being on my feet all day at work was awful pain. I was taking all kind pain pills and was inactive all summer due to the pain and/or medication which made me gain 10 pounds. So the doctor tried me on Ultram. It does help the pain but fatigues me after work starting at 5pm. I don’t even want to do anything. I was taking 50mg 3 times a day. I stopped cold turkey the other day and I was ok the 1st day but had total pain to walk on my foot. The next day I woke up with total join pain and horrible back pain and fatigue after sleeping 9 hours solid. I could hardly walk to the bathroom. I also experienced depression and crying just watching TV trying to rest cause I had no energy to move. So I looked up these symptoms on this site and I came to the conclusion to take 50mg and within 45 minutes I started to feel better. I just took another 50mg because the pain in the foot started returning to walk on it. I think this lower dose should help. We will see…

Subj: Drug test
Date: 9/23/2009
I am asking about Tramadol (Ultram). Can Tramadol cause a false positive on a drug test for Methadone? I just failed a routine drug test and the only thing I have ingested is Tramadol. Please Help
Hattie
AskDocWeb: Tramadol has not been reported to show up as a false positive for Methadone or anything else on a drug test.
Subj: Kidney problems
Date: 9/28/2009
I had been put on ultram 8 months ago for right leg pain from falling and a total hip replacement. My Dr put me on it over the phone and did not tell me the side affects. I at one time asked him if I would have possible kidney problems with no answer. I now have a spot in my right Kidney that was found from a CT Scan test. I have had severe pain from urinating and have been put on many Antibiotics and yeast creams with no avail. I have gone off the meds only to find out I am depressed, anxious, cannot sleep, have panic attacks etc. I finally got some answers about this med by reading what other readers have stated and was never told to go off if slowly. I am still waiting to find out about my kidney issue.

Subj: Ultram addictive

Anyone that tells you that it’s not addictive is either grossly misinformed or just a liar.

Subj: Not so easy!!!
Date: 10/26/2009
Sorry I can spell, but here goes! I have been taking Ultram for 2 years because I have an extra vertebrae in my back which causes my spinal column to twist and pinch multiple nerves. My dose is 2 X 50mg/ 4 times a day. So that’s 400mg a day! Since I’ve been taking the cortizone shots, my back problems have basically gone away. Now to get rid of the Ultram! Not so easy!!! I have tried taking myself off it very slowly, no luck. I cant fall asleep at night no matter how sleepy I am! I can even take 2mg of Klonopin and 400mg of Seroquel and still nothing. When I lay down my limbs feel like they want to jerk. I have even went as far as to tie a turnacut around the limb that wants to jerk and wait for it to fall asleep! My wife removes it after I fall asleep… But I wake up an hour later with the same problem. I have been on Morphine, Percocet, and all the good ones, but I have never experienced the pain of the withdraws from Ultram.

Subj: Ultram for psoriatic arthritis
Date: 11/2/2009
I use ultram when my psoriatic arthritis flares up. It works exceptionally well for me and I’m glad that I do not have to take it regularly. It helps me sleep well and I wake up feeling great.

Subj: Ultram withdrawal
Date: 11/4/2009
I began taking Ultram 200 ER two months ago. I forgot to take it before work one day and began withdrawal. Headache, diarrhea, chills, irritability and sleeplessness. As soon as I took the pill, these symptoms subsided within a couple hours. The same thing happened to my mother. My doctor’s office said that this is not a narcotic and this is very unusual. After reading all of this, I’d say they are wrong. They have started me on 100 mg tablets to begin weaning me off of them. I will never take pain medication again unless it is Tylenol!!!!

Subj: The worst headaches
Date: 11/6/2009
I took ulram for two weeks and I was up to 300mg a day then I ran out so of course I stopped taking the medication. I have had the worst headaches all day a long and back pain that is waking me up out of my sleep. It has been 2 days since I have stopped taking it and I am finally starting to notice a difference. Dont take Ultram unless you are in serious pain. Percocet or something of that nature is much easier to recover from.

Subj: I kicked Ultram but…
Date: 11/13/2009
I have been taking ultram for 7 years, I kicked em last year by tapering down, I was taking 30 a day then and I started taking 15 a day with some cold sweats, but taking valium at nite to sleep, then I weaned down from the tramadol over 3 weeks and still went thru withdrawals but I felt great once I was totally off them. I wasn’t a zombie no more, my energy level finaly went back up after a month and those dang cold sweats were gone after 3 weeks. 5 months past then I got a toothache and the dr gave me tramadol and I wasn’t strong enough to tear script up and I relapsed, now I am hooked again but Monday I start my weaning process again!
Years ago I was addicted to hydrocodone and withdrawals lasted only 3 days, tramadol withdrawals are 10x worse cause it last alot longer and not only is it physical, tramadol is mental also, you get so depressed and emotional when you are coming off tramadol. I dread it!! But there is life after tramadol, you know the main reason I liked tramadol cause it gives you energy and a good overall feeling! My wife says when I take them, I never laugh and I get where I don’t care bout cleaning house or nothing. If these withdrawals weren’t so bad, I’d go cold turkey, but going from 30 a day to none a day is dangerous. Anyway I remember how I felt last year when I got over the withdrawals and I remember being very happy and motivated, started working out again and just started living!!! Livin on tramadol is no way to live!!! Good luck to anyone who is trying to kick the habit, its hard, yes, very hard and depressing but remember withdrawals can’t last 4 ever and you will be so much happier and pat yourself on the back cause you kicked tramadol and that alone is a small miracle, alot of people never will!! God bless and roll tide.

AskDocWeb: Hopefully you will tell your doctor about the withdrawal effects of this “non-narcotic” pain reliever. It helps to be able to spend time in bed. Sometimes you just have to tough it out but we do wish you good luck.
Subj: They said it was not addictive
Date: 12/8/2009
I have been on Ultram now for 8 yrs and yes it is addictive. I didnt find that out for a first when it was new they said it was not addictive and then discovered that it has other attributes as they put it to me. I have lower back pain and neck pain and have for yrs. I used to take narcotics for it but got off those now I find what I’m on it addictive too and can in the afternoon make you depressed. Some days it will give you energy and others not. I also take xanax for my nerves and panic attacks. So I’m in it for the long haul. I am cutting down on everything and am determined to get off all of it which is going to be very hard, lots going on in my family right now but I’ve got to do it. My suggestion to anyone who is starting a new drug investigate, go to the search box and put in (example) ultram withdrawals. You’ll be surprised and what you find.

Subj: Has anyone had these symptoms?
Date: 12/31/2009
I had back surgery in 11/2008 pain disappeared until I was doing physical theraphy and then in January 2009 the pain returned which I couldn’t handle so my doctor put me back on Ultram which I had taken before the surgery. I’m taking 1 50 mg. pill every 8 hours and it seems that in the last couple months after eating anything I get stomach pains from under my breast bone to my hip bones and then I have to run to the bathroom. Also if I don’t keep Ultram in my system I can’t sleep at night, I toss and turn all night and have bad cramps in my legs. Has anyone had these symptoms?

Date: 1/7/2010
I have been taking ultram for 3 months I have began having bad side effects from this pill, dry cough, feeling faint, rapid heart beat, passed out at work, taken to hospital after emt was called blood pressured going up and down. It has been terrible think before you take this drug or at least research the side effects first.
