Hair loss from scalp – age related?
10/22/2012
I have had problems with thin light facial hair for many years. It shows mostly in the summer with the sunshine. I bought Vaniqa and this had an immediate effect. Not so good however, was the simultaneous effect of hair loss from my scalp. I had to stop Vaniqa unfortunately. Do you think the hair loss has to do with my age, I’m 62? I have noticed that many women who have this side effect from Vaniqa are not young.
Mette
AskDocWeb: We don’t have enough data to determine if the loss of scalp hair is age related or not. It would be helpful if those posting would give their age but not everyone is comfortable doing that.

Can you use this on your cheeks to?
KK
AskDocWeb: Yes, Vaniqa is approved for use on facial hair, which includes the hair on your cheeks.
Menstrual irregularities?
1/20/2013
I have been using vaniqa for about 2 months and what a difference. Hair nearly gone and plucking and waxing now about every two weeks where as before it was everyday. I did have dry skin and some spots initially but this has gone. The hair in head thinning has not happened to me but as I have read so much about I have cut use down to once per day and not twice and results are still good. I did notice my period was late though and wondered if this was just coincidence or if anyone had noticed this? I would recommend this product but as with everything there are always things to consider and I am keeping an eye on the rest of my body for any adverse affects.
Margaret
AskDocWeb: Menstrual irregularities are not listed as one of the possible side effects of Vaniqa. However, someone did mention that their periods had become irregular but that was several years ago (See Sami 2/24/2008.
Can I give blood?
1/20/2013
Question. Can I give blood whilst using vaniqa?
Margaret
AskDocWeb: We have not heard of any problems with donating blood while using Vaniqa. They generally ask you if you are taking prescription medications before taking blood. Some of the medications that would probably prevent you from donating blood include Tegison, heart-regulating medications, anti-coagulants such as Coumadin, long-term steroid therapy, and Bovine (beef) insulin. You must have completed antibiotics at least 3 days prior to giving blood.

Head hair loss!
1/29/2013
Been using this product for my under chin & mustache area for about 7 mos. It does work, although I still have to pluck thick hair from underchin. My mustache area has completely disappeared. Now my concern is I am losing a lot of hair from my head!! I have thin head hair now!! Now that I am reading some reviews, it is mentioned a lot about head hair loss!! mmmm Now I don’t know if I should recurr to laser treatments!???
Concerned patient!
AskDocWeb: That does seem like a dilemma. However, it may also be a good excuse to get a complete medical physical to rule out other causes for hair loss such as thyroid problems and PCOS.

Hair loss from top of head
Date: 3/16/2013
I used Vaniqa on my chin and neck for around 4 months before seeing the results. However, I noticed that the hair on the top of my head has thinned dramatically and quickly at around the exact same time. I searched on the web, found this site, and see that quite a few others have had similar results. I’m stopping use immediately!

5 o’clock shadow
Date: 7/15/2013
I need help! I have been using Vaniqua for about 3 months. It has worked in that it has reduced the amount of hair growth, but I now have a “5 o’clock shadow” over my lip, that is hard to cover up with even concealers. It is embarrasing! It may be ingrown hairs, I don’t know. If I stop using Vaniqua, will they go away? I hate to do that, but this is a terrible problem for me. Help!!!
CAREN
AskDocWeb: Since it may be ingrown hair or something else, it may need to be evaluated. Please consult with your doctor or dermatologist.
Vaniqa and herpes simplex
Date: 8/4/2013
Hi I was told about Vaniqa and bought a tube over the counter while on holiday in Spain for 50 euros. I read the instructions that were in Spanish. I used it on my chin where i have very course, quite dark hair growth. I used it for a couple of days and then decided to use it on my upper lip….within in seconds of using it my lip began to tingle and within no time at all I had a fever blister (Cold sore) come up on my lip. I have suffered with occcasional blisters (Herpes Simplex) BUT this was due soley to the use of VANIQA … I decided it was best to never use the cream again. I just wanted to warn all users that you could be that one percent who will get this side effect. I unfortunately was not aware of the side effects before using it and it was only when I re-read the instructions for use and SIDE EFFECTS. BUT a little too late.
