Subj: It seems to have stopped working
Date: 4/30/2009
I am 60 years old and have been using Vaniqa for 2 years with some success but suddenly it seems to have stopped working have you any idea why this should happen? Also my skin seems to becoming very wrinkly I don’t know whether this is just age or a side effect.
Ruth
AskDocWeb: Developing wrinkles is not listed as a possible side effect so it may have something to do with age. There is no data to suggest that one might develop a tolerance for the drug.
Subj: Hair on head is also falling out
Date: 5/4/2009
Vaniqa is helping with facial hair, but the hair on my head is also falling out. I also believe Vaniqa is the cause.

Subj: Laser hair removal didn’t work on me
Date: 5/13/2009
I’ve just heard about vaniqa. All women in my family experience excessive facial hair. We tried to heal this curse through laser hair removal it worked on my sisters unfortunately being the darkest it didn’t work on me at all. It left me with marks that would never go away no matter what I use, my facial hair is thicker and more excessive. My skin also became very sensitive. I have to remove my facial hair from one to sometimes twice a week. Usually I use hot wax or cold straps but it grows back really fast! Would you recommend me to use vaniqa?
Nour
AskDocWeb: You sound like a prime candidate for Vaniqa. Please let us know how well you do with it.
Subj: Elevated liver enzymes
Date: 5/22/2009
Have just purchased my 2nd tube. It is so easy to use and it has been effective. Probably completely unrelated, but recently my liver enzymes have been greatly elevated. Is there any possible connection?
Susan
AskDocWeb: Mild to moderate elevations of the liver enzymes are commonplace but you are right, it is probably unrelated. Typically, a physician will order other tests along with those for liver enzymes. These can include a complete blood count or CBC, which will test levels of white and red blood cells or specific tests for viruses. Liver enzymes ALT, AST, ALP and bilirubin are also included on the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, which tests kidney function, electrolytes, protein levels, calcium and glucose. A diagnosis can then made based on the outcome of all the blood tests and the patient’s symptoms.
Subj: Seriously
Date: 5/28/2009
I haven’t used vaniqa but I’m scared bcoz is this seriously an ultimate solution to hair removal or jus marketing tricks r used for the sale of product? Can u answer my question that what if I stop using it can u explain me in plain language will the hair grow back n in what quality?
Kanchan
AskDocWeb: Vaniqa is not the ultimate solution but it does work. An ultimate solution would not have to be used more than once and the results would be permanent. With Vaniqa, when you discontinue use your hair gradually returns to the same growth rate that it had before you used Vaniqa. Both the quality and quantity of hair growth returns to what it was before you used Vaniqa.
Subj: Vaniqa prescription
Date: 6/2/2009
I’m about to go and ask for a prescription… do I just tell the doctor I want Vaniqa prescription and do I get a refill or I have to do that every time I want to get it? Will vaniqa help control my side beards? I have hair under my chin and my upper lip as well.
Step
AskDocWeb: Just tell your doctor that you would like to try Vaniqa to reduce your facial hair growth. You can also discuss refills at that time. Typically doctors make a note on your prescription as to how many times it can be refilled before you have to return for a check up.
Subj: More facial hair?
Date: 6/8/2009
Can you end up with more facial hair with using vaniga cream?
Zara
AskDocWeb: No, once Vaniqa is no longer applied, your hair growth returns to normal.
Subj: It’s working
Date: 6/8/2009
I am loving it. I just started using it 3 weeks ago and I can tell it’s working. The dark hairs are thinner. My sister has been using it for 2 months and her face is clear of hair and soft, very soft. I love Vaniqa. Thank you Vaniqa.

Subj: Positive results
Date: 6/9/2009
I used Vaniqa several years ago with no effect whatsoever. I decided to try it again and received a prescription 5 days ago — amazingly both I and my husband notice a market improvement! I have PCOS with considerable hirsuitism (excessive hair growth) and need to shave like a man every single day. You can imagine how thrilled I am to try it again with positive results — just wait until I get through the typical 4-8 weeks before seeing improvement!

Subj: Not worth it
Date: 7/2/2009
I have polycystic ovary syndrome which causes LOTS of facial hair. I’ve just started my third month with Vaniqa. So far, I’d say it is helping with the facial hair, but unless the results become more dramatic with more time, I’d say the $65/tube cost (at Sam’s Club Pharmacy) is just not worth it, considering it is a lifetime commitment and my money may be better spent on electrolysis.

Subj: Want to try this
Date: 7/18/2009
I really want to try this, although I don’t have ins. anymore, thus I’ve not gone to the dr. in sometime. Is it hard to get a dr. to write a RX? And how many cases did their hair fall out of their head? That is scary!
Donna
AskDocWeb: Getting a prescription for Vaniqa is not difficult. Just tell your doctor what you want to accomplish and that you would like to try Vaniqa. There are only a small number of reports about hair loss from the scalp (between 1.3% and 2.5% of users).
Subj: Hair on my face
Date: 8/3/2009
I have very fair skin and there is a lot of hair on my face (way too much to tweeze), from my “side burns” and across the chin and lip, and on my throat (neck area), of what I call “peach-fuzz”, very soft, light colored hair. I am 60 and it seems to be getting heavier. Will Vaniqa help me? And without turning all of the hair darker and heavier??? Thanks for a response.
Sandra
AskDocWeb: It sounds like a good possibility. Vaniqa is specifically prescribed for the treatment of excessive facial hair in women. It doesn’t remove hair but it does slow and in some cases stop the growth of hair on the face and neck. During this process the hair typically becomes lighter in color and smaller in diameter.
Subj: Hair dramatically thinned on scalp
Date: 8/15/2009
I started using Vaniqa about 7 years ago. It took about a tube’s worth for me to have the results I want. I had some pretty thick, long facial hair and now I have NONE. Every once in awhile a hair will come through (A hair, not several), but it’s not anchored in very well, and I can just grab it with my fingers and pull it and out it comes. I have dramatically thinned on my scalp though…and am wondering if Vaniqa is the reason. Maybe it rubs off my face onto my pillow and then I transfer it to my scalp? Or does it go into your system? I’m not losing hair anywhere else on my body, so that’s why I’m thinking it’s the pillow.
Michelle
AskDocWeb: If you apply it right before bedtime then that may be a possibility.
Subj: Head hair loss?
Date: 8/27/2009
I’ve been using this product for eight months and notice that my head hair is falling out, you didn’t answer that last person with the same question! Is there a connection with taking Vaniqa and head hair loss?
Mandy
AskDocWeb: There could be, hair loss is now listed as a possible side effect for about 2% of Vaniqa users. There are also a growing number of reports by users here about scalp hair loss.
Subj: Psoriasis?
Date: 8/31/2009
Can this product Vaniqa cause psoriasis. I had been using this for a year and developed psoriasis never had it before? Just wondering if anyone has heard of this. Thanks!
Angela
Subj: Vaniqa ingredients
Date: 9/8/2009
I have been using vaniqa for around 8 months, and it has helped alot with reducing facial and has made the hair thiner and lighter, but ever since I have been using this cream I have put on alot of weight and seem to be really struggling to loss it where as before using vaniqa I could loss weight easily! Is this possible? Does it contain some of the ingredients as Diannete contraceptive pill as I struggled with my weight when I was using that a couple of years back! Pls help.
Janet
AskDocWeb: The only weight related side effect of Vaniqa that has been reported is anorexia (about 1% of users). Dianette tablets contain two active ingredients, cyproterone acetate (an anti-androgenic progestogen) and ethinylestradiol (a synthetic estrogen). The active ingredient in Vaniqa is anhydrous eflornithine hydrochloride as eflornithine hydrochloride monohydrate. Other ingredients include: ceteareth-20, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone, glyceryl stearate, methylparaben, mineral oil, PEG-100 stearate, phenoxyethanol, propylparaben, stearyl alcohol and water. There is nothing in common that would cause a problem with weight loss.
Subj: Don’t want to invest in disappointment
Date: 9/30/2009
I am considering using vaniqa but not sure if it will solve(help) my problem. I have had facial hair for 45 years, I can’t go out in public without shaving everyday. It is just that bad. I almost bought it today but hesitated because of the expense, even with the coupon. I just don’t want to invest in disappointment.
Debi
AskDocWeb: It is important to note that this medicine is not a depilatory. It does NOT remove hair. If you try it, you’ll need to continue shaving. Hopefully it will reduce the growth of hair but it may take 4 to 6 weeks to see improvement so you’ll need to be patient.
Subj: My facial hair has disappeared completely
Date: 10/5/2009
I have used Vaniqa for about two years and my facial hair has disappeared completely. I did experience mild acne on several occassions. When I tried to cut back to once a day instead of twice, I noticed the regrowth was darker and thicker than before and required tweezing until Vaniqa took effect again.
Rhoda
Subj: Facial hair?
Date: 10/13/2009
So if I stop using vaniqa facial hair would grow back?
Jackie
AskDocWeb: It could take several months for that to happen but yes. Once you stop applying the growth inhibitor, hair growth gradually returns to what it was previously.
Subj: Am I wrong?
Date: 10/20/2009
Do you have to use the product for the rest of your life? It says after you stop use your hair will grow back so in essence you need to use the product forever or am I wrong?
Ivette
AskDocWeb: No, you are right. In order to continue getting the benefits, you have to continue using the product. That is the main difference between a treatment and a cure. Vaniqa is not a cure, it is a treatment.
