I used Vaniqa for 2 weeks as part of my post-hysterectomy treatment. I broke out like a 14 yr old only where I had applied it. I discontinued it immediately. The breakouts have lasted for about 6 months since. I’m 40 and very fair skinned, maybe that has something to do with this problem. Looks like I’ll be fighting zits until I’m in a nursing home. Maybe laser hair removal will work.
Subj: Vaniqa now available in Canada
i have just started vaniqa 3 days ago. It was not available in Canada now it is to my joy. I have been shaving like a man for years and was getting very depress about it now I have hope thanks to vaniqa. I have red hair so my facial hair is very pale. I have very sensitive skin but didnt get any bad reaction so I’m happy.
Subj: Vaniqa usage
I didnt use vaniqa yet but I wanna ask does it cause any irritation if I wax and then use it? Or its perfictly safe … and what happens if I stop useing it will my hair go back to the state it was in or stayes fine?
AskDocWeb: Reported side effects that may go away during treatment, include stinging/tingling skin, burning, redness, rash of the skin; or hair bumps (folliculitis) and acne. If they continue or become bothersome, check with your doctor. In those who discontinued use, hair growth typically returns to pretreatment levels after about 8 weeks.
Subj: Vaniqa in Australia?
Is there any way I can get Vaniqa down in Australia? Thanks,
AskDocWeb: The safest way to find out is to ask your local pharmacist if they have, or if they can get Vaniqa in your area.
Subj: Pleased with results
I’ve been using Vaniqa for about 4 months now and am extremely pleased with the results. I used to have to pluck my facial hair every single day and was extremely self conscious about it. It took close to 2 months of using Vaniqa before I saw any results, but now I can go several days w/out tweezing and what hair is left is much finer and lighter. I have not had any negative effects as far as acne goes and I have sensitive skin. The product is expensive (like $90 now?), but it lasts for months and it’s worth the time and confidence I’ve gained by not having to worry so much about facial hair. I think this is a good option for those of us who don’t have the time or money to invest in laser hair removal.
Subj: HEAD hair loss
I read where (above) a person lost their HEAD hair using this product on their face. I think this is a SERIOUS side effect and should be documented. I want to know how many cases of this have happened. The company owes it to people to investigate and report this information before they try the product. Please email me if this information exists. Thank you.
AskDocWeb: Hair loss (alopecia) is now listed as one of the possible side effects of Vaniqa that affects between 1.5% and 2.5% of users. We have updated the list of side effects on the Vaniqa report with the newest numbers available.
Subj: Excess hair?
Subj: How severe is “excess” hair? I have PCOS and coarse facial hair. I asked my general physician about Vaniqa and he said it ‘wasn’t that bad’. I normally try to keep my face fairly clean by plucking, so I was curious how much hair others who use this have.
Subj: Vaniqa usage
Before using the product a patient would like to know if 1- can it be applied to other parts of the body 2- is it safe with lazer skin treatments 3- is it safe if using a tanning salon. Thankyou.
AskDocWeb: The latest product data sheet from the manufacturer says that Vaniqa is not expected to cause any photosensitivity or problems with tanning. It does say that usage should be limited to the face and adjacent involved areas under the chin. There is no warning or caution about the use of laser treatments.
Subj: Hair loss on head
Product vaniqa seems to be working after app. 7 wks but noticed some hair loss on my head. Should I quit using vaniqa and will my hair come back?
AskDocWeb: Drug induced hair loss usually reverses after the treatment is discontinued so there is a good chance that it will come back. You will have to decide if the hair loss on your scalp is bad enough to discontinue or not.
Subj: Trans gender women
HI, my name is Aaron, I am a Trans gender women. Born Male. Pre-Op. I am on Estrodal 50mg x2 weekly and spironolactone 100mg daily. My Dr, has prescribed Vaniqa for the obvious reasons. I haven’t filled it yet. Do you think it might work for me. Now I know no studies were done on male patients with Vaniqa. But havening the hormone therpy of a female. I thought I might have a good chance of it working. i’ve been hormones for 4 months so far. I know this is a lot of private info. but I really wanted to ask someone who might now. thank you,
AskDocWeb: Vaniqa inhibits the growth of hair. Gender makes no difference in the effectiveness of this product.
Subj: Hair on the neck and chest?
I had a molar pregnacy in 2004 and my hormone levels have been abnormal since then. I have facial hair on my face, and upper lip, and neck, and even on my chest! I was just wondering if it would be ok to us this on my face, upper lip, neck, and chest? If u could answer this for me I would greatly appreciate it. It would rally be helpful.
AskDocWeb: Vaniqa gets down into the follicle and interferes with the enzyme process that promotes the growth of hair. Although it may work on other areas of the body there could be unforeseen side effects. For example, there are a few reports of scalp hair loss so you may want to limit use to areas that are approved by the FDA.
Subj: Just started using Vaniqa
great web site I just started using the cream will get bk to ya in a month.
Subj: Excited and nervous
I got my prescription for Vaniqa today and will pick it up tomorrow! I’m very excited and nervous. I’ve read many of the comments and hope to have good results. I’ve been dealing with a thick dark hair on my chin and cheeks for about 8 years and I’m ready for it to be gone. I’m tired of trying to explain why Aunt Bree has a beard to my little nephew and niece. I’ll be sure to let you know how it turns out!!
AskDocWeb: Thanks Bree, and good luck!
Subj: Change the application?
I have been using vaniqa for eighteen days. After I apply it I wait 8 hours between applications. But sometimes it can be 9 or 10 hours between applications. I don’t know is it bad or not? And may I change my application shedule. How can I do? Please help me.
AskDocWeb: According to the instructions as long as you allow 8 hours between the 2 daily applications you can pretty much make up your own schedule.
Subj: KP Keratosis Pilaris?
I’ve read that Vaniqa on the body is off label, but sometimes that works out and sometimes not. My question is would Vaniqa possibly be helpful for KP Keratosis Pilaris?
AskDocWeb: Keratosis Pilaris (KP) is a common genetic follicular disorder manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin. Primarily, it appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms, but can also occur on thighs, buttocks, or any body part except the palms or soles of the feet. This disorder occurs when an excess of a protein called Keratin, accumulates inside hair follicles forming numerous tiny rough bumps on the skin. These bumps may become irritated causing the follicles to redden excessively. There is currently no known cure for Keratosis Pilaris. There has been some speculation about the affect of Vaniqa on KP but so far there doesn’t seem to be any research on this.
Subj: Okay to tweeze?
is it ok to tweeze while using Vaniqa?
AskDocWeb: Yes, the instructions say that you’ll need to continue your routine method of hair removal while using this medicine.
Subj: Painful ingrown hairs
I have had ufh since puberty. I have been through many different treatments. Although laser was the most effective, it is too expensive to continue with multiple treatments. I started using vaniqa on my chip and upper lip and started getting painful ingrown hairs. Will this go away eventually?
AskDocWeb: Although an ingrown hair can heal on its own, it can take from three days to up to two weeks. It is possible that you may be among that small percentage of Vaniqa users (0.3% to 3%) that get ingrown hair as a side effect. If it doesn’t heal on its own you may have to consult with a dermatologist.
Subj: It’s working
I started useing generic Vaniqa 2 weeks ago. I buy it from an online pharmacy in India. It is less expensive and the shipping is fast. I am beginning to notice that I spend less time tweezing and that I am already experiencing a loss of facial hair. It is very easy to apply, can be used under make-up and even though the tube is small a little goes a long way. My self confidence is way up there even though I have a ways to go. I will continue to use it for the rest of my life!
