Subj: Does Vaniqa counteract Rogaine?
Date: 11/18/2010
I am considering using Vaniqa, but after reading various posts I am not sure if I should. Due to using Rogaine for my alopecia I have developed facial hair. Will Vaniqa work for me since I am still using the Rogaine? Will Vaniqua counteract the Rogaine and cause me to lose my hair? Thanks.
Antoinette
AskDocWeb: There is no way to know how effective Vaniqa will be but it is likely to help. Only about 2% experience the loss of scalp hair as a side effect.
Subj: Significant improvement
Date: 11/23/2010
I started using this product 4 days ago and did not have my hopes up. After years of tweezing, my skin was irritated and broken and so was my self esteem. I am happy to report that in mere days, I am noticing a significant improvement with clearing of skin and big reduction of tweezing. It seems it is not for everyone but thank God it seems to be for me!! Anyone struggling should try it and see.

Subj: Copaxone?
Date: 11/28/2010
I am currentyly on Copaxone for MS. Does this cream interact with it?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: No, our database lists only one drug that interact with Copaxone and that is Tysabri (natalizumab).
Subj: Estrogen?
Date: 11/28/2010
I just started using this product 4days ago, can’t wait to start seeing results. My question is, I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago when I was 30. I’ve been on estrogen since, does this have any effect on this product? Thanks,
Julie
AskDocWeb: We haven’t found any drug interactions between estrogen and Vaniqa however, new ones are sometimes found so always consult with your doctor or pharmacist for the latest information.
Subj: Non-comedogenic?
Date: 12/1/2010
I have been using Vaniqa for about a month, and I think I’m seeing some improvement! However, I do have some breakout on the chin area (due to some ingrown hairs I think), and wonder if Vaniqa is, or will be, non-comedogenic? What is an effective acne treatment that can be used simultaneously? Also, can I continue to use my Evoclin and Finacia with the Vaniqa?
Happy
AskDocWeb: Vaniqa is not non-comedogenic. Acne is one of the possible side effects of Vaniqa however, that may go away with continued use. For advice on treating your acne we have to refer you back to your local doctor.
Subj: Scalp hair loss
Date: 12/8/2010
Scalp hair loss is not just the normal shedding. Stopped Vaniqua before I am bald.

Subj: Vaniqa has helped
Date: 12/16/2010
I bought a tube a while back and was horrified by the $80+ pricetag for something so small. I was lazy using it and stopped. Then a couple months ago I found it and started using it regurlaly, with good results. I normally have to Emjoi my face twice a week + plucking, and it depresses me because I feel like a hairy beast. But Vaniqa has helped slow the growth, and my confidence is growing. No bad side effects so far. Any woman having hair problems should consider seeing an endochrinologist, to assess the cause of the hormonal imbalance–this can be a symptom of cysts on the ovaries, excessive testosterone, androgyn-sensitivity… I am on a high estrogen contraceptive and a product called Androcur, which blocks my body’s production of testosterone ten days a month, all because I’m androgyn-sensitive. It’s all stressful and far too expensive, but at least I feel I can leave my house.

Subj: Feel like a woman again
Date: 12/16/2010
Hi there, I have PCOS and very bad hirsutism on face and neck, and have been like this for nearly 20 years. Before using this cream I shaved 1 to 2 times a day (yup it really was that bad) I tried Vaniqa and to be honest didnt see any improvement until week 7 when I was just about to give up. The hair is less noticeable, much finer and slower to regrow. I shave every 2 days now. I now feel like a woman again and can even tie my hair back. It really is a great product and the first ever product I could honestly recommend. I just regret it didnt arrive in UK earlier. Good luck.

Subj: Cheaper versions of Vaniqa?
Date: 12/26/2010
I used this product years ago and am considering it again. Are there any cheaper versions of this product that would give the same results?
Victoria
AskDocWeb: We haven’t seen any but maybe a reader can suggest one.
Subj: Vaniqa on fine hairs?
Date: 1/16/2011
Am I understanding correctly that you need to remove the hair first, then apply vaniqa to the site? Does this mean that it will not work on the fine hairs on my face?
Jodi
AskDocWeb: You have the first part right. The instructions say to continue your routine method of hair removal while using Vaniqa. The more the product works, the less you will have to do that.
Subj: SUPER BUMMED!
Date: 1/26/2011
Vaniqa changed my life 4 months ago when I started using it! I no longer had to spend 30-45 minutes a day plucking my chin, jaw line, and upper lips. I was okay with the fact that I would probably have to use this for the rest of my life at $80 a tube. However, in the past month it seems to not be working as well and I don’t know why. I thought it might be because I have been using Retin A nightly but have recently discontinued using Retin A in hopes that the Vaniqa would work better again. Nothing really has changed. Has anyone had this happen? Can your body build up an immunity for the drug in Vaniqa??? I am SUPER BUMMED!

Subj: Remarkable results
Date: 2/5/2011
I got so-so results at first because I applied it so-so. When I got a clarsonic Opal infuser for Christmas the light bulb went on. Now since I wash my face 2x day with the clarsonic cleanser, then use Opal to put on serum I also use a dab on the Opal to apply Vaniqa. No hairs…remarkable results in 4 weeks. AND I use less product at a time, so the cost is less. I love my new gadgets and I love the results. No more black hairs! I have time for more fun things than staring in a mirror to pluck out all the Offenders!

Subj: Waxing?
Date: 2/8/2011
I wax my upper lip every 3-4 weeks. Can I use Vaniqa with this method of hair removal?
Nancy
AskDocWeb: Yes, the manufacturer says that you can continue to use your routine method of hair removal while using Vaniqa.
Subj: Head hair loss while using Vaniqa
Date: 2/10/2011
I have been on Vaniqa for 8 weeks and have developed marked hair loss, a very receding hair line and thinning hair. I wish I had researched this side effect more seriously before starting this product. I have a horrible mustache, but the mustache is controllable, loosing my head of hair is not. I really hope it grows back. Beware, even with the low percentage of this side effect it is not worth using this product.

Subj: PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
Date: 2/10/2011
My daughter 15 yrs has PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) she has alot of facial hair. She does already have some acne will this add to her problems and will she have to use this for the rest of her life.
Fanny
AskDocWeb: Vaniqa inhibits the growth of hair but it does not permanently stop it. Once Vaniqa is discontinued hair growth will approach pretreatment levels within 8 weeks.
Subj: Expensive but it does work
Date: 2/11/2011
I’ve been using vaniqa for 3 years. A tube lasts a long time for me — about six months. Yes, it is expensive, but it does work. The hair on my chin is gone for the most part. What hair does grow back is very fine. I couldn’t do without vaniqa. I hardly worry about facial hair anymore.

Subj: No results
Date: 2/24/2011
I’ve used the cream for about 4 months no results I still have to shave daily. Its like a bad curse. I’m thinking about lazer hair removal but I’ve heard that may not work and its quit embarrasing to go and tell someone I hope one day they come out with something like a cream or shot that really will work since this is such a common issue. I believe mine is from pcos but when I was 11 I saw a female friend shave and I of corse copyed her n now i live with it daily…. good luck 2 u all….

Subj: Gray hairs on face
Date: 2/28/2011
Does Vaniqua work on gray hairs on face and chin? Thanks.
Gloria
AskDocWeb: Yes, the color of the hair makes no difference in the effectiveness of Vaniqa.
Subj: Vaniqa with laser hair removal?
Date: 3/11/2011
what are the risks of using this product while being on a laser hair removal treatment? I suffer from PCOS and although laser helps, hair remains growing.
Rosaline
AskDocWeb: The latest product data sheet from the manufacturer says that Vaniqa is not expected to cause any photosensitivity or problems with tanning. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Vaniqa actually improves the results of laser hair removal. In one study of using Vaniqa cream combined with laser hair removal, after 6 months of treatment, 96% of patients had total and permanent hair removal.
Subj: A lot of hair on my chin
Date: 3/16/2011
Could you please email me directly at (email address) as I most likely won’t be able to find this site again. I was just prescribed vaniqa. I have alot of hair on my chin I mean alot… 80 or so that I pluck every couple of days. Dark black hair and on my lip. I am 56. My hair on my head is thinning not terrible but thinning. Should I worry about using this product on lip and chin and will it cause ingrown hairs. Thank you.
Jane
AskDocWeb: The chances of Vaniqa causing a problem with ingrown hairs are small (0.3% to 2%) and likewise with alopecia or hair loss (1.5% to 2.5%). The majority of those using Vaniqa (almost 80%) report remarkable results and no problems at all.
