Subj: Dry skin itch
Date: 7/24/2007
I have been using Xenical for about a month. I have been having very itchy skin. I have always had dry skin but this is different. I wake up at night scratching. I was wondering if this could be a side effect of the Xenical?
Tracy
AskDocWeb: Possibly, that’s one of the signs of an adverse reaction that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Warm feeling in throat
Date: 8/1/2007
I have this warm feeling in my throat that won’t go away. It feels like I just took a swallow of wine or brandy. There’s no pain, so I don’t think it’s acid reflux, but it feels very strange. If I go off the diet pills, it goes away, and then comes back when I resume them. I can’t find anything anywhere that mentions this. Is this a known side effect?
Cyd
AskDocWeb: It’s not mentioned. We suggest you consult with an ear, nose and throat specialist to find out if anything else is going on.
Subj: Hallucinating
Date: 8/1/2007
I was put on xenical to loose weight for an operation I did start to loose weight but I also started hallucinating in the night I would wake up and spiders would be coming down from the ceiling and crawling all over the bed I carried on taking them and the spiders continued after a few days of it I stopped taking xenical and the hallucinations stopped I’m not sure I could do that again and don’t know if anyone else has experienced this all I can say is it wasn’t a pleasant experience!

Subj: Wasting
Date: 8/1/2007
I took xenical after researching the AIDS drug that was given and taken for 6 months that caused a weight gain of 40 lbs. the first 2 weeks. I exercised like I was gearing up for the Olympics everyday…but couldn’t loose the fat tissue. I then documented that the drug- Crixivan stated it was to make you gain fatty deposits and not a side effect. Then they gave me xenical and now have wasting due to the loss of the nutrients that were stored in the fatty tissue. I says to me…DON’T DO NAY DRUGS NATURAL WAYS TAKE LONGER BUT ARE NOT DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR HEALTH!

Subj: Hair loss while taking xenical
Date: 8/9/2007
Is there any indication of hair loss while taking xenical? I’ve noticed that my hair falls out quite a bit since I’ve been taking this drug.
N
AskDocWeb: It is not a listed side effect but yes, there have been reports of hair loss with Xenical.
Subj: Constipated using Alli
Date: 8/9/2007
I might be one of the few who actually became constipated using Alli… but then again I stuck to the diet too.
Lynn
Subj: Alli website
Date: 8/12/2007
Is there an ‘Alli’ website similar to this one? I know that the Alli is similar to the Xenical and I believe I’ve had some very serious side effects that some of the users of Xenical have experienced. Thank you,
Kathleen
AskDocWeb: There is an Alli website but they just cover the one product. What side effects do you consider serious? If you share them here others can benefit from your experience.
Subj: A healthier way to go
Date: 8/15/2007
I have been taking Xenical for 6 months now. I have found that it has moderated my food intake as well as enabling me to make healthier choices. Initially I found oily stools after eating foods that I had no idea contained so much fat. I have gradually been able to eliminate some of these foods. I now drink more water, replaced some coffees with green tea and do not enjoy many cakes and pastries as much. When I look at them I just visualize the fat content …. and then possible side effects! Sometimes I have found an unusual urgency to use the loo that seems to come on very suddenly… but usually around the same time each day. The body weight is put on slowly so Xenical has allowed me to take it off incrementally … a much healthier way to go.
Peter
AskDocWeb: Please note that there are a few health concerns that go with using Green Tea.
Subj: Gallbladder problem?
Date: 8/16/2007
I have been using Xenical for one week two times a day, 1 is after lunch and the other one is after dinner. Can I just take it after lunch since I just eat fruit during dinner? Also, I have read that it is not advisable for a person who has a gallbladder problem. I already had a gallbladder surgery 5 years ago, is it a problem?
Maria
AskDocWeb: It won’t be as effective if you skip the second dose that day and your weight loss will be slower. As long as your current doctor knows about the gallbladder surgery it isn’t a problem.
Subj: Not working for me
Date: 8/20/2007
Hi, My friend and I had both Xenical at the same time, I have been using it for 5 days and it doesn’t work for me. There was no changes or any sign at all in my body however for my friend its working constantly. Why is it not working for me?
Sheryll
AskDocWeb: It doesn’t work the same for everyone because of differences in physiology, metabolism, diet, and the amount of exercise you get. You might consider the possibility that you may not be eating right and exercising enough.
Subj: Xenical daily dosage
Date: 8/21/2007
I have been taking xenical for 2 weeks now and I have lost weight, but only 2-3 kilos. I only have xenical once a day with my dinner…should I be having it more often? I am a healthy eater.
Sarah
AskDocWeb: According to the PDR the recommended dosage of Xenical is 120 mg three times a day taken with each main meal containing fat.
Subj: Menstrual irregularity
Date: 9/3/2007
I just started taking Alli 2 weeks ago and have been reading everything I can find on Alli and Xenical. I am also on Weight Watchers and thought Alli would be a great aid as I have always lost very slowly, even with religious exercise. I regained about 40 pounds over a year after dropping Weight Watchers and the gym – restarted WW almost 2 months ago. I have been using my gazelle every day for 45-60 minutes. I still only lost 1.8 pounds after the first week and weigh in again on Wed (today is Mon). I am hoping for at least a pound. I have set what I believe is a very reasonable goal of a 5 LB loss per month (would love more though!) I have found that I have the orange oily stools even though I have kept the fat intake below the 15 grams of fat per meal. I am also experiencing the menstrual irregularity – was not due for at least 2 more weeks and within 3 or 4 days of alli, I started spotting and still am over a week later. I plan to give it another week before I really become concerned about that. If it works for me and I lose at least a pound a week, I am willing to put up with some side effects, the menstrual irregularity bothers me more than the oily stools, however the effects of the extra weight on my body and spirit far outweigh the side effects I have experienced so far… I would like to know however if the menstrual irregularity tends to subside after a few weeks use?
Tammy
AskDocWeb: The manufacturer reports that 9.8% of Xenical users experienced some menstrual irregularity although they don’t say how long it lasts. You should see a doctor to rule out other problems and disease.
Subj: I feel so much better
Date: 9/5/2007
I have had a weight problem since I was a very young child. Thyroid medication helped a bit, but I was never able to lose significant amounts of weight, even though I was starving myself! I finally found a nurse practitioner who did a saliva test on me and found out that I had very little serum cortisol in my body. I had had a total hysterectomy several years before, but the oral and IM hormones that I was prescribed never seemed to work. I now take a regimen of vitamins and a mixture of hormones in a rub on cream base. I recently have added xenical to my regimen and have lost 15 pounds in six months. This is eating whatever I feel like eating, whenever I feel like eating it! I do not have the awful food cravings for fat, sugar and salt that I used to continually have, and no longer am tempted to eat rich foods-it’s like a switch has turned off. I feel so much better and will hopefully lose around 30-50 pounds in a year’s time.

Subj: Started a rash
Date: 9/8/2007
I have taken xenical for about 2 months, really have not lost any weight yet, however I have started a rash, almost like pimples on my neck and back. (similar to a light acne and itchy) I am thinking it is xenical. I have changed my lotions, shampoo, and now quit the xenical, but not long enough to change the problem, if it is xenical. Have you had any reports of this sort of problem? I look forward to your reply. It is so expensive, and wondering if it takes a while to start shedding weight.
Darlene
AskDocWeb: A rash is one of the infrequent side effects that you need to report to your physician.
Subj: You can’t fool this drug
Date: 9/11/2007
I have been on Zenical for 10 months. I have lost 30 lbs. Initially the weight came off really quickly, recently more slowly…but its still coming off. I only ever experience oily stools when I’ve been eating something that someone on a diet shouldn’t be! Other than that, I would say I have ‘soft stools’ and they are no problem at all. If you are going to continue eating a high fat diet then this is not the drug for you. The side effects punish high fat intake. I have found Zenical to be a wonderful kick start to my diet, I have another 20lbs to go and I will stick with it. However for this to work it has to be a combination of diet, exercise and Zenical. It is not a quick fix and I am amazed that people complain about oily stools. You can’t fool this drug – eat fat, pooh fat!
