My hair is dry and course – I have never had this problem before – could it be the ALLI. I only take it once or twice a day at the most.
Muller
AskDocWeb: There have been a few reports of this although it’s not listed as one of the side effects.
Subj: LOL

Subj: Grease leakage
Date: 10/9/2007
I just started taking Xenical yesterday and this morning I had my first greasy stool, from what I’ve read this is normal but, when I pass gas I am leaking. I actually saw a spot in my chair at work and thought where did that come from and I later learned it came from me, when I went to the bathroom my underwear had a grease stain. My question is how long should this ‘grease leakage’ go on? Is there anything I can do, other than wear one of my wife’s pads?
John
AskDocWeb: The ‘grease leakage’ comes from excess fat in your diet and will continue as long as you take the pill and eat too much fat. These bowel discharges are a natural effect of blocking the fat from being absorbed and indicate that the xenical is working. Reducing the amount of fat you eat will eliminate the problem.
Subj: To lose the weight I HAVE to exercise too
Date: 10/19/2007
Hi, this is the third time over 5 years that I am taking Xenical. I am into my third week now, cut down on the amount of fat I eat and exercising regularly. I was disheartened last week when I seemed to have gained weight, but to my amazement at the end of week 3, I have lost 3 lbs. This is what happened the previous two times then the weight loss was steady, but I find to lose the weight I HAVE to exercise too, just taking Xenical on it’s own does not work for me personally. Xenical also makes me eat a more healthy diet, as I know if I eat cake, biscuits, chocolate, I will suffer the consequences, it is more psychological for me, but I will keep you posted on my progress.

Subj: My doctor will not prescribe Xenical
Date: 10/21/2007
Hi, I am 5ft 8 and weigh 19st 2lb (268 lbs.) which makes my BMI 40.7. I have been to my doctors on numerous occasions and so many diets that I have lost count. I was told by a member of my family that Xenical could help me lose the weight but my doctor will not prescribe it to me. I have asked for a reason but none are ever given. Should he prescribe this to me?
Denise
AskDocWeb: Your doctor will not prescribe Xenical if it would complicate your other health issues. That could cause more problems than being overweight.
Subj: I LOVE IT!
Date: 11/3/2007
I LOVE IT! I have lost over 40 lbs., and doing it healthy! I maintain daily exercise & low-fat diet. The Xenical has done wonders for me & I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about their health/weight!

Subj: I never told my doctor
Date: 11/4/2007
I’m 50 years old. I am satisfied with the product coz I’m no longer overweight but my doctor advised me lately to take Calcibloc in higher dosage than my usual because of my high blood pressure. I never told my doctor that I’m taking xenical too. I started taking xenical March 2007 up to now. I am also taking Calcibloc long before I take xenical so I am now taking both everyday. Are there any side effects reported? Is taking Calcibloc harmful/contraindicated when one is taking xenical? Thank you.
Sheila
AskDocWeb: There may be, but there are not reports on it. Please be honest with your physician and tell him what you are taking. Your life may depend on it.
Subj: Told me not to change my diet
Date: 11/6/2007
I’ve been taking xenical for about a week now, my doctor didn’t really ask me anything before putting me on the pills. He weighed me and took my height. He told me not to change my diet, how thick is my doctor? I thought pooping every few hours was normal…see I told my boyfriend I have to change what I eat and he said I should do what the doc said. I feel so stupid now! I find it so hard to stop eating the bad types of food. Can the doctor put me one something else as well as what I’m on to stop me wanting food.
Rebecca
AskDocWeb: We suggest you talk to a nutritionist at your local hospital. And please, read the information that came with Xenical as to what foods to avoid.
Subj: No side effects
Date: 11/7/2007
I started taking Xenical about 3 weeks ago and got all the reactions (oily stool, gass, etc). I went on a week vacation and took myself off the pills for that week so I would not have annoyance on the trip. Started the pills back up 3 days ago and no side effects what so ever…is something wrong?
Denise
AskDocWeb: Not necessarily, as long as you keep your fat intake down there shouldn’t be any reactions.
Subj: Desperate not to put weight back on
Date: 11/13/2007
I was 220lbs and 5`1″ I was morbidly obese. I was prescribed xenical and in combination with a calorie controlled, low fat diet and increased activity I lost nearly 90lbs in 8/9 months. I’ve lost weight before but never so quickly or effortlessly. The only real initial problem was increased gas at times! Unfortunately after suffering from excruciating gastric pain on a few occasions was diagnosed with gallstones. Whether or not it was due to the xenical I don’t know. Had my gallbladder out last week, put on a few pounds due to boredom, ability to eat foods I couldn’t before etc, but have started back on a healthy diet and am going to ask my GP whether I can recommence taking xenical as I am desperate not to put weight back on, despite having the stones I wouldn’t have changed anything. Never want to be fat like that again. I can move, run, have lowered my blood pressure considerably and look and feel so much better.

Subj: Liver enzymes
Date: 11/13/2007
Does Xenical cause liver enzymes to increase? SGOT?
Sandy
AskDocWeb: It is very rare but increases in liver enzyme levels have been reported.
Subj: Extremely dry painful lips with peeling
Date: 11/25/2007
I started taking Xenical 3 weeks ago and since taking the medication I am experiencing extremely dry painful lips and peeling. Is this a side effect? And if so will I continue to have this problem as long as I am taking Xenical?
Sarah
AskDocWeb: About two percent of Xenical users (2.1%) experience dry skin as a side effect. Your doctor can prescribe an ointment to apply to this area to help you. Remember that you have to increase the amount of water you drink daily to avoid dehydration.
Subj: Gall bladder problems
Date: 11/26/2007
I came onto your site with a specific question and noticed a post that is quite similar to my situation (Jim/xenical and gall bladder problems 1/1/2005). I had taken Xenical for a few months under the direction of my endocrinologist for weightloss up until this past September. I never lost much weight, even with drastic reduction of fat/caloric intake. Prior to beginning on this drug, I had always had a clean bill of health. Needless to say, this is not now the case. Last week, I had my gallbladder removed after a few episodes of excruciating pain under my right ribcage. Could this drug have this potential side effect? If anyone has had similar experiences, please let me know.
Gretchen
AskDocWeb: Gall bladder problems are not a side effect of Xenical. It is not known why some people have problems with their gallbladder and unfortunately there is no way to prevent it. The risk factors for developing gallbladder problems include obesity, rapid weight loss, pregnancy, high cholesterol, and certain medical conditions (such as sickle cell anemia).
Subj: Is it safe?
Date: 11/27/2007
Hey! I’m a 18-year-old girl. I just want to know if it’s safe for me to take this drug. I want to lose weight easily. Sobra! Ha ha. It’s funny but it’s true.
FE
AskDocWeb: Since Xenical is a prescription drug, your doctor is the only one who can say if it is safe for you to try it or not.
Subj: Bloated and face swelled up
Date: 12/2/2007
I’ve been taking xenical for about 4 months now and its been very hard I’ve experienced oily gas and constant bowel movements when I stop taking the pills I got bloated and my face swelled up I’m back to normal now but I think more studies should be done on this medication.

Subj: Grumbling stomach and excess gas
Date: 12/27/2007
I have been taking Xenical for just over a week now. The only side effect I have had is a constant grumbling in my stomach and excess gas. I have not experienced any diarrhea like others who I have spoke to, in fact I have a harder time going now. The other night I took a pill and had pizza/wings for dinner–and I was expecting the worse ( I was actually trying to see if it was working by eating greasy foods)….and got nothing but grumbles! Is this normal?
LB
AskDocWeb: Yes this is a normal reaction for some people. Read more feedback about Xenical. Xenical report – 9 – 10 – 11 – 12 – Page 13 – 14 – 15 – 16 – Last Page 27
