Subj: Gall bladder removed
Date: 1/1/2008
I had a gall bladder removal last April, 2007. I am currently using xenical. Is it not good to use Xenical without gall bladder?
Mhel
AskDocWeb: For some people this may be a problem that requires special monitoring or may exclude the use of Xenical. Be sure the doctor that prescribes your Xenical knows about your gall bladder removal.
Subj: Stopped losing and gained it back
Date: 1/3/2008
I’ve been taking Xenical for about six weeks now. At first I was losing weight, but now in the last 2 weeks I stopped losing and gained it back. I don’t understand this? I don’t eat any different from before. I didn’t eat 3 meals before, mainly just 2 and it worked, but now it’s not. I do drink alot of diet Pepsi, but I also did when I started. Is there any possible reason for this? Any suggestion?
Jay
AskDocWeb: It could be that you are not exercising enough, your dosage may need adjusted, or several other reasons. Take it as a sign that you need to talk to your doctor about your progress. Maybe you missed reading the direction about eating different, limiting your fat intake, calorie intake and exercise.

Hi, I have been taking xenical for 3 days now and I have been suffering from Diarrhea since!!! But I really don’t want to stop it, coz I really want to lose weight so badly…
Xenical effect
AskDocWeb: That is what typically happens while on Xenical when the food you eat is has too much fat in it. In order for Xenical to work, you have to make lifestyle changes such as changing your diet.

Hi, just started xenical, in 1 week have side effects oily discharge, I am weight watchers food can you tell if I am doing something wrong? Thanks,

AskDocWeb: It sounds like your diet may be too high in fat. That is what causes the oily discharge. In the pamphlet that comes with Xenical it tells you what foods to avoid.

I have been using xenical for 6 weeks and for a while the results were great. Except for this week that my foot is swollen and the pain is up my knee. I don’t know if it has something to do with my eyes as well, coz my eyes now are so sore. I still want to use this product since it helped me very well to loose weight. Though, I am afraid of the side effects.

Date: 1/20/2008
Hi, I’m going 31 this month I had tried xenical before but because of oily stool I’ve stopped using it. But now I’m planning to take it again but I’m worry because I don’t know if it is safe to take it if you already had a history of depression. Please advice thanks
Ruby
AskDocWeb: Since depression is one of the side effects of Xenical you should consult with your physician about taking xenical.
Subj: Xenical and cholesterol
Date: 1/20/2008
I have been taking xenical for 10 months now and have lost 29lbs so far. I am still using the drug and still dieting. The weight is coming off slowly but surely, which I am extremely pleased about. When having my 3 monthly check up at the diabetic clinic, I was overjoyed. This time last year I was on the verge of being put on insulin as my sugar level was sky high. This time my sugar level was 6.3 my BP the best ever at 130/70 my weight dropping so my nurse was overjoyed for me. The only concern was my cholesterol had gone up to 6.2 and has been 4.2 whilst on atorvastastin for the last 3 years. This was a concern for my doctor who has now put me on another tablet for my cholesterol. My question is “Can the xenical have this effect and if so why?” Thanking you in anticipation,
Gill
AskDocWeb: No, on the contrary, Xenical has been shown to decrease total and LDL cholesterol (level of low-density lipoprotein-also known as bad cholesterol).
Subj: Danger to GI system?
Date: 1/23/2008
Is there any danger to the GI system in taking xenical if you experience nausea?
Mary
AskDocWeb: A little over eight percent (8.1%) of patients using Xenical experience nausea. In post-marketing surveillance pancreatitis has been reported with the use of Xenical although no causal relationship has been proven. Pancreatitis is a swelling of the pancreas. Acute pancreatitis is often the result of damage to the gallbladder or biliary tract. The symptoms are fever, severe abdominal pain moving to the back, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. This may or may not be accompanied with a yellowing of the skin (jaundice). In some patients pancreatitis results in diabetes mellitus.
Subj: Blood in stool
Date: 1/24/2008
I am currently taking Xenical and have experienced some of the side effects. What I am concern about this time is “blood in my stool” Sorry, I don’t mean to be disgusting but it’s a concern I have. Any one else with this type of problem?
Maria
AskDocWeb: Blood in your stool indicates a problem that should be reported to your physician, please don’t ignore it.
Subj: Taking fertility drugs
Date: 1/25/2008
I want to know if Xenical has anything to do with fertility I mean the reproductive system. Please I need your reply as soon as possible. I just brought some packets I need to know if I can take it as I am taking some fertility drugs. Thanks,
Vicke
AskDocWeb: The FDA put Xenical in pregnancy category B. That means it isn’t expected to harm an unborn baby, but don’t take it without first talking to your doctor.
Subj: Only one kidney
Date: 1/27/2008
Hi, I live in Cabo, I only have one kidney which works only 35%, feeling great, but will like to know if taking xenical is ok for me. I drink every day zestril 10mg (its for the blood pressure but a side effect helps to maintain my kidney function). I’m in a low fat and low carb diet, lost 5 kgs, please let me know.
Kelly
AskDocWeb: Since Xenical is not filtered by the kidneys that is not a major concern but only your physician can say for sure if it would be safe for you or not.
Subj: Fecal oil
Date: 1/31/2008
I’ve been using Xenical for 2 weeks and lost 6lbs. Since this morning I realized that I’ve had greenish brown/black color fecal oil and stool. Is that normal?
Flo
AskDocWeb: It is not unusual to have a change in stool color when taking Xenical. The greenish color comes from bile that doesn’t break down completely. Bile is a yellow-green fluid that digests fats. As the bile travels through your gastrointestinal tract it is chemically altered by enzymes that change the color from green to brown. All shades of brown and even green are considered normal.
Consult with your doctor if your stool color is bright red or black. That may indicate the presence of blood, in which case you should seek prompt medical attention. A black stool can indicate bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as the stomach but can also be caused by iron supplements, Kaopectate, Pepto-Bismol, and black Licorice. A bright red stool can indicate Bleeding in the lower intestinal tract, such as the large intestine or rectum but can also be caused by red food coloring, beets, cranberries, tomato juice or soup, red Jell-O or Kool-Aid.
A light-colored, white or clay-colored stool may indicate a lack of bile in stool or a bile duct obstruction. Some medications such as Kaopectate, Pepto-Bismol, and other drugs for diarrhea can also cause this.
If your stool is yellow, greasy and foul-smelling there may be excess fat in the stool. This will happen when taking Xenical when your fat intake is too high. If it happens when you are not taking a diet drug that blocks the absorbsion of fat it could be due to a malabsorption disorder, in which case you should see your doctor.
Subj: Glucosamine + chondroitin
Date: 2/10/2008
I have been taking glucosamine + chondroitin since 2001, because of arthritis in my right hip. After a couple of months all the pain went and I was pain free. After taking Xenical late last year (for only one month) severe pain in my hip returned. I feel it was caused by taking Xenical. I have upped my dose of g+c and the pain is receeding, it is a long process but I feel that things are improving. The recent X-ray I had showed mild to moderate degeneration of my hip!!! I was given the choice of taking Xenical to help me lose the weight I had gained since the beginning of 2007. I had gained a considerable amount after seriously breaking my arm and being inactive and depressed for months on end. No golf, swimming, bowls etc etc. Hopefully I shall now, with help from the local hospital physiotherapist together with g+c return to an active life. I am off swimming today(no breast stroke though, bad for the hip)!
Jenny
AskDocWeb: Please check the glucosamine cautions before using it.
Subj: Bad stomach cramps and sickness
Date: 2/22/2008
I was on Xenical for a few weeks but I encountered really bad stomach cramps and sickness to had to come off them nor three weeks after stopping them I am still getting really bad stomach cramps which start at around 9.30 PM each evening which I presume is when my food is getting digested. Could it be a side effect of Xenical.
Isis
AskDocWeb: It may have been caused by Xenical but since it is continuing it could also be something else so consult with your doctor.
Subj: Xenical, diabetes and myasthenia gravis
Date: 2/27/2008
Can you take xenical if I am on diabetes medicines and have myasthenia gravis taking cellcept and mastinon?
Mumtaz
AskDocWeb: If you tell which diabetes medicines then we could check for drug interactions. You will have to consult with your physician on this.
Subj: Constipation
Date: 2/28/2008
Hello I have been taking Xenical for about 2 weeks now and the last 4 days I have not been the toilet. Does this mean that the tablets are not working?
Christine
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you may be suffering from constipation. That doesn’t mean the xenical is not working. Please contact your doctor before things get any worse. Read more feedback about Xenical. Xenical report – 11 – 12 – 13 – Page 14 – 15 – 16 – 17 – Last Page 28
