Subj: Swelling in feet
Date: 5/24/2010
I am contemplating using Xenical to aid in my weight loss. I am a whopping 72 kgs (159 lbs) on a 5ft 3 frame. However I read that u should not use it if u notice swelling in your feet I sometimes get swelling in my left foot. Especially after working our at the gym. I think it was brough about last December. I was taking off some skiing boots and I yanked hard and felt pain in my ankle which has now persisted. Its an on and off pain. Sometimes I feel this sensations in my left foot, at one time it will be pins and needles and sometimes it’s just a general discomfort. I have seen a doctor who presribed Lasix and said I had edema after which swelling went down in both foot, but I still have slight swelling every now and then in my left foot. Please advice as to what the problem with my foot is and whether I can take Xenical safely. I feel so frustrated that I can get my foot back to normal, please help me. PS:I have a blood test done and nothing abnormal was found in my blood. Feel free to suggest any tests that I should undergo, I am desperate to get well and whole again. Kind Regards,
Wangare in Kenya
AskDocWeb: There are too many possible causes of swelling to begin with, from diseases to physical injuries. If the swelling is caused by an injury then you may be able to use Xenical once the injury has healed. It sounds like you may need a complete medical physical to narrow down the possibilities.
Subj: Potassium level?

Subj: Is Alli the same as Xenical?
Date: 5/25/2010
hi, I used xenical before when I was in the Philippines and I would like to use it again but I’m here now in Canada and I don’t think their selling xenical here without prescription. There is alli(orlistat) brand, which is a OTC. I wonder if they have the same effect? I’m 5’7″ and weighing 180 lbs and I want to lose 35-40 lbs. Thanks.
Sha
AskDocWeb: Both Alli and Xenical are the same drug, orlistat, just different dosages. Both have a very small risk of severe liver injury. Xenical is twice as strong as Alli. The recommended prescription dose for Xenical is one 120mg capsule three times daily. The recommended dose for alli is 60mg three times daily.

Subj: Concern about breast size
Date: 5/29/2010
I’ve only started using Xenical today, my BMI is 28, I’m looking to lose about 1.5 stone or thereabouts. My main worry/concern is losing my chest/breast size as I have a broad frame and I would look like a man if I lose my boobs! Prior to my weight gain, I always had a good chest, so I’m wondering will Xenical affect it now?
MARIA
AskDocWeb: That is not likely to be a problem. There are no reports of anyone losing chest size because of Xenical.
Subj: Nasal and chest congestion
Date: 5/29/2010
I have been on Xenical going into my 3rd month now. It has definitely helped me slowly take some weight off, and especially consider how and what I eat when I am travelling for business. I do however have a concern, the last few weeks I have developed alot of nasal and chest congestion, it has not really got any worse, but has also not got any better over the last 3 weeks. I have read that some side effects may include upper respiratory infections. Could what I am experiencing be caused by Xenical?
Jason
AskDocWeb: Yes, respiratory tract infections is on the list of possible side effects of Xenical. Nose and throat problems are listed as less common but are also possible.

Subj: Is xenical not working?
Date: 6/7/2010
Hi, been taking xenical for about 3 or 4 weeks now but I have not had any side effects and no weight loss, I’m very disappointed, I was using reductil for about 6 months and it worked wonders, I miss it so much, is xenical just not working for me, what do you think?
Alice
AskDocWeb: It sounds like it is time to check back with your doctor to review your situation. Have you changed your eating habits? What about increasing your activity level? Remember that the drug is only one part of your weight loss program.
Subj: Oily discharge and IBS problems
Date: 6/10/2010
Same as SuzeQ posted 10/3/2009, I took Xenical for 4-6 weeks about 10 year ago. Had to stop because the oily discharge was very bothersome to deal with. I never had IBS problems in my life prior to that. However, I’ve had IBS problems ever since I used the Xenical that short time. I highly don’t recommend use. Even eating healthy, my IBS is a problem almost daily.

Subj: Oily fatty deposits in stool
Date: 6/12/2010
Hi! I just started using Xenical yesterday and one of the side effects that I experienced were the oily and fatty deposits in my stool. I understood completely what that meant and I took that as a sign that the drug is really working but what concerns me is that since I started using Xenical, my bowels ONLY consisted of the oily deposits and not the real stool… And since my sister is a doctor, she said that it’s not healthy for the body not to remove the waste products. I’m now confused if that is a side effect also? Is it normal for a person taking Xenical to not have the stool itself in their daily bowels? Thank you!
April
AskDocWeb: About one patient out of every five has the oily or fatty stools. It is possible for the stool to become so diluted with fatty oils that you don’t recognize it as a normal stool. If you are having bowel movements then your body is removing waste products but you might want to talk to your doctor for more specific detail. Remember that it is okay to be frank and sometimes graphic in your talk with your doctor. They really have heard it all before.
Subj: My hair is falling out
Date: 6/19/2010
I have been using this product for 2 years. I am not over weight but use it to maintain and add the product when I have more calories than usual. In the past year I have been experiencing something new. My hair is slowly falling out. I have had extensive blood work and both my general practioner and dermatologist say I am very healthy. I have had no changes in med’s or trauma’s. I am wondering if this product is blocking some vitamin absorption? I take a whole array of supplements and try not to take them within the 2 hour time frame-but I am wondering. I am at a loss-really as I have always had very thick hair. I have loved the product so kind of hope it isn’t it. Please help…
Lisa
AskDocWeb: Hair loss or alopecia is not listed as one of the possible side effects of Xenical. There is another possibility that you might want to consider. A lot of people take supplements to promise leaner physiques and more efficient metabolisms but overdoing protein shakes, protein bars, protein powders, and whey may actually contribute to hair loss. Another possibility is DHEA, which is used to increase the maximal use of sugar so that you burn more of what you eat as you exercise. The problem with DHEA is that it acts as a steroid when inside the body, precipitating the formation of DHT. It might seem like it’s perfect for weight loss however, it still causes hair loss in both men and women.
Subj: Nausea
Date: 6/23/2010
Hi, I started taking Xenical one day ago along with siofor due to insuline resistance noting that i am not diabetic. Is there any side effect while taking xenical and siofor together?? I had terrible nausea all daylong that i stopped today all medications… I think i’ll restart tomorrow but i’ll take only one xenical pill after lunch and leave siofor for the morning and night… do u think taking siofor along with xenical created nausea or is it that xenical might cause this? Do u think one xenical pill a day would be helpful? Thanks,
Rita
AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any drug interactions listed between Xenical and Siofor (metformin) but nausea is listed as a possible side effect of Xenical. Remember to talk to your doctor anytime a symptom or side effect becomes a concern.
Subj: Black spots in stool
Date: 6/25/2010
I’m on Xenical for two months now. I do not have any problems when my diet is correct (low fat diet), only twice when I ate some more fatty meals, I had oily stool. Yesterday I had again one of those fatty meals and today, I saw that my stool was yellow green and oily again but I had some black spots like black ink in the toilet. Is that an issue that I have to worry about it? Please be so kind to inform me. Many thanks.
Pauline
