Subj: Serious discomfort
Date: 3/16/2006
I took Xenical over a period of 2 months…1 to 2 pills per day. I had some serious intestinal cramping and discomfort…along with diarrhea and so on. I was ok with all of that. I lost about 3 lbs over these 2 months.
Now however…I stopped the Xenical 2 months ago…and anytime I eat a mildly fatty meal…I get bloated and there if fluid retention in my abdomen…leading to discomfort. I took blood tests for my liver and kidneys and everything checks out fine…I’m almost sure it’s some kind of thing related to Xenical. It’s highly aggravating.

Subj: Can’t tell if it works
Date: 3/18/2006
I lost 65 lbs with weight watcher 3 years ago, stopped smoking 6 weeks ago and piled 20lbs back on, so I am trying xenical, day 2..nothing unusual yet, stools normal, can’t tell if it’s doing anything or not? Having one Bowel movement a day so far, same as before I started xenical. I have pigged out a little to test its effects…can’t see it’s doing much for me yet but only day 2 on the meds…will update you later

Date: 3/26/2006
I am on my 4th week of xenical and I have lost 11 pounds. I don’t have a gallbladder either I only take the pill at lunch which I don’t eat a lot and then I take the pill with supper. The rest of the night I drink water or maybe a Pepsi or a beer. I really need to start exercising… I need to lose 75 pounds. Got a long way to go.

Subj: It works
Date: 4/3/2006
I was reaching a point where I didn’t understand why I could not lose weight. I was doing everything right. I was exercising in my target heart zone for 45mins- 1 hour a day 6 days a week with 3 days of weight training. I was eating a balanced diet low in fat and not over eating, but why could I not lose weight? Finally I told my doctor my concerns and he thought perhaps it was due to a medical condition, yet after getting multiple tests, determined it wasn’t that. My doctor suggested I try Xenical and low and behold after 3 weeks I lost 10 lbs with continued exercise and sensible eating. It was the only thing that worked for me. I wasn’t “obese” necessarily, but my BMI was over 25. I am so thankful that I tried this product and I do recommend it to anyone who needs or wants to lose weight. Sure the side effects are there IF you eat a high fat meal or diet, but then again, why are you eating high fat when you are trying to lose fat? Ask your doctor about this alternative it certainly worked for me.

Subj: Anti depressants and Xenical
Date: 4/12/2006
I started taking reductil (I call) it 7 days ago. I was on Efexor and stopped. Still taking Endep at night. Have taken many mediations for depression over years and had no bad side effect, except weight gain. After 5 days, had tooth pulled out and for three days could stop vomiting, had to get needle for vomiting.
Of course felt nausea but thought it was getting tooth out and panadeine forte. Now nearly a week after tooth out still feel a bit better if I sleep longer but have headaches, very tired, Yesterday I got buscopan for bad stomach pains. I keep thinking or want to think I have a bug as lots are gong around. Every night my legs are aching. So could all of this be the Reductil. It’s like I don’t want to believe it but I think tomorrow I will stop to see if it is. Could the endeo be affecting it. My doc said no. I am that depressed about weight I am willing to go off antidepressants for a couple of months and use xenical which I have read has had better results than reductil. If I stop the anti depressants then the doctor could give me something like duramine (but then I would have to stop endep wouldn’t I)… So please help. Thanks,
Deb
AskDocWeb: This is something that your doctor will have to sort out for you. Explain to your doctor what you want to accomplish and talk to him about the best way for you to do that.
Subj: Little result with Xenical
Date: 4/18/2006
I am 5’2 143 lbs. I’ve been on a low fat/low carb diet for 6 months and am active and exercise regularly. I have been taking xenical to help the weight loss and unfortunately with small results. Because I am on a low fat diet, I only take the xenical when I eat a meal with fat. Do I need to be taking the xenical 3 times a day to get the weight loss affect? Even though my meals normally are very low fat? Thank you in advance for your advice.
Valerie
AskDocWeb: In order for it to work, you need to take the Xenical as directed by your doctor, whether your diet is low in fat or not. Unfortunately it sounds like this drug may not be the best choice for you, time to talk to your doctor.
Subj: One week of Xenical
Date: 4/23/2006
I’ve been taking xenical for a week now. I haven’t had any side effects as far as frequent movements or fatty stool, ect. Does this mean it isn’t working? Please let me know as it is costing me a small fortune. Thank you and congrats to all of those with their success. Regards,
Kerri
AskDocWeb: If you are not eating fatty foods, you will not have fatty stools, so it depends on what you’re eating. To find out if it is working, use the bathroom scale to weigh yourself. If you are loosing weight then it is working.

I’m currently taking synthroid for hypothyroid, and am overweight by 60lbs. I’ve taken phentermine, and no luck. I just took the prescription to the pharmacy today, they said I needed prior authorization. Are these pills effective? How much are these pills going to cost, if you have no insurance.
Wendy
AskDocWeb: Prices vary but you can ask your pharmacist what they charge. Your doctor’s office can submit a prior authorization for you.
Subj: Orange spots
Date: 5/20/2006
I have only been using xenical for a few days now and have noticed when I have gas its comes out looking like orange coloured oil, I seem to be leaving bright orange oil every where. Does this mean some of my meals are to high in fat still? It is really getting annoying… K.A
Kerrianne
AskDocWeb: Yes, that is a side effect of consuming too much fat. And those GI effects increase when you take the drug with high-fat foods, specifically when more than 30% of your total daily calories come from fat.
Subj: Love the stuff
Date: 5/23/2006
It is about 2 days that I started taking xenical. I don’t see any effect. How people know that they are passing oily stools? How long it would take to effect? My BMI is 29.
Nabeela
AskDocWeb: Everyone is different in how they will respond to a new medication. They will pass oily stools if their total daily intake of fat is over 30%. You should see good results in a month, little by little every week. Remember that the faster you lose weight the more likely it is to come back. Losing it slowly is recommended.
Subj: High blood pressure
Date: 5/24/2006
I have high blood pressure and virus c.
Hany
AskDocWeb: If you have uncontrolled blood pressure using xenical is not recommended. It will increase your blood pressure further and cause a rapid heart rate. Sounds like you need to talk to your doctor about alternatives.
Subj: Xenical
Date: 6/15/2006
Hi there, does xenical work? How long will it take for me to see a difference?
Spatto
AskDocWeb: Yes, it does work and you could see a difference in the first week. It blocks your body from absorbing the fat you eat and it passes through the body undigested. It does not change your appetite. Xenical also decreases the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta-carotene. To compensate, you should take beta-carotene and a multivitamin with vitamins A,E,D, and K once a day, at least 2 hours after taking Xenical. It is intended to be used with an exercise program.

Subj: Is it working?
Date: 6/19/2006
I just started taking xenical today with a reduced calorie / fat diet. I did not have the bad bowel movements though and I wondered does this mean it isn’t working? I had a BM more than usual but it wasn’t bad. Is it still eliminating some fat taken it? Or is this an indicator that I don’t need to take xenical when eating such low fat meals?
Susan
AskDocWeb: A low fat diet will help you avoid the nasty BM experience, be thankful! Keep using the scale and let your weight be your guide to how well it’s working.
Subj: Menstrual irregularity
Date: 6/23/2006
I’m 55. I thought I was in the change, am on xenical, been taking it for 6 weeks, have just had a period. Is this a normal side effect of xenical?
Maxine
AskDocWeb: It’s not typical but it can cause menstrual irregularity.
Subj: Irregular periods?
Date: 6/24/2006
I want to get pregnant soon, but before I get pregnant, I wanted to lose 20-25 lbs. Will this medication cause me to have irregular periods?
Traci
AskDocWeb: About 10% of users experience irregular periods.
Subj: Water?
Date: 6/28/2006
I have been taking xenical for nearly two weeks. I have not been on the scale but I don’t feel as though I have lost any weight…do you think I need to cut down on food even though I don’t snack but do drink fizzy drinks, should I drink water instead? thank you
Rachel
AskDocWeb: Yes, you need to drink a lot of water with xenical, no fizzy drinks. Have your physician provide you with a 1200 a day calorie intake diet sheet to follow. That will help you plan your meals.
Subj: Xenical
Date: 7/3/2006
I have been using xenical for a week and have not lost any weight. I have been eating a low fat diet I am 200 pounds. How long should I wait and how many calories should I eat? I haven’t had any of the side effects either. I have had no doctors advice as I bought tablets abroad.
Karen
AskDocWeb: Well having bought them abroad, we can only hope they are the real thing. For most people about 1200 cal a day is about right but you need to exercise along with this. Try taking a walk three times a week and gradually work up to longer walks, at least 20 minutes. Put some music on while you’re walking, it will be more pleasant and the time will fly by. Pretty soon you will be looking forward to these walks especially if you can talk someone into going with you. Read more feedback about Xenical.
