Subj: Hanging skin
Date: 7/3/2006
My friend and I used xenical for a short term, actually for 3 weeks. We were both exercising. We noticed that we developed hanging skin and cellulite on both stomach and thighs…after two months. What can we do to reverse this?
Tohira
AskDocWeb: Over time the skin will tighten up a little but not much. Here is the problem, when a body puts on excess weight, the skin stretches to accommodate that increased volume. After a significant amount of weight loss the skin will be very loose. The only way to tighten loose skin is through surgery. The problem is that the surgery to tighten up skin produces scars and it is not minor surgery. Adding the fees of the surgeon, anesthesiologist and the operating room can total over $20,000. If you have only a little looseness you may not want to trade that for scars.
Subj: Green stools
Date: 7/5/2006
I had my gallbladder out about 4 years ago and I have been given a prescription for xenical and I am not loosing any weight. I don’t eat allot of fat, and I exercise as much as I can. My BM are green, and smelly could this be a result of no gallbladder and taking xenical? Should I even be taking this prescription? I thought that my GP would know what he is doing, but I have read that this is not a good drug to take if you have had gallbladder problems in the past.
Maxine
AskDocWeb: The green stools are likely due to the gallbladder problem. But you are right, xenical is not a good drug to take for those who have had gallbladder problems. Sounds like you should get a second opinion.
Subj: Is Xenical for me?
Date: 7/6/2006
My BMI is 39 and I am obese, like I didn’t know this, but if I am to take this new pill to me xenical, is this the correct thing for me. I know that I need to exercise but I would like to know about this pill. Can AskDocWeb please let me know? I do not want to take this if pill if it is going to cause cancer or etc. I guess everybody body is different. Help me. Thank you,
Mark
AskDocWeb: There is no evidence that Xenical would cause cancer. The question about Xenical being right for you should be decided by your doctor based on your medical history and current condition.
Subj: Oily discharge
Date: 7/15/2006
Well I jus take xenical at dinner but not regularly. I am on a herbal based supplement called Phyto shape which I take 15mins b4 break fast. I have recently noticed oil discharge. Phyto shape ingredients are aloe vera herbal extract, garcinia combogia, vitalcel wheat fiber. Is the oily discharge bad for me if they are regular?
Samina
AskDocWeb: The oily discharge is to be expected when you eat too much fat. But it’s not something that is going to cause harm to your system. Be sure to check the ingredient list in any herbal remedy that you try. Some herbs interact with medication.
Subj: Gained 4 pounds
Date: 7/18/2006
I have been on Xenical for a week and have gained 2-3 lbs. I have felt quite depressed and have constipation which I didn’t have before taking this. Is it in order to be able to take a laxative alongside Xenical?
Val
AskDocWeb: No, something is not right here, you need to visit your doctor ASAP.
Subj: When to take Xenical
Date: 7/18/2006
I have taken Xenical for 11 days so far. I agree with some of the other postings that the only time I have had bad side effects is if I have had a meal high in fat. My question is if you are on a low fat diet, when do you take Xenical? I eat a lot of veggies and good protein and can’t find too many times when it’s appropriate to take it as prescribed. Since the medication is so expensive, I would rather take it when it’s most beneficial rather then waste a pill and not have any reaction.
Kim
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you may be confused as to just what this pill is supose to do for you. Please talk to your doctor about this. Xenical is made to work with a low fat diet. To get your moneys worth you have to follow directions.
Subj: Phentermine with Zenical?
Date: 7/18/2006
I have been taking phentermine 15mg for 16 weeks. I have only lost 2lbs. Can I take it with a low dose of zenical or should I increase my current dosage?
Shannon
AskDocWeb: This is the kind of question that should be asked during your visit to the doctor because it depends on your medical history and current medical condition.
Subj: Phentermine or Xenical?
Date: 7/20/2006
I have taken Phentermine before and have been very successful with it. I was wanting to try something different though. Which diet pill would you recommend more for results, phentermine or Xenical? Also, can you take both of those pills at the same time?
Natalie
AskDocWeb: We don’t recommend either one of them. That is something your doctor needs to decide.
Subj: Xenical hair loss?
Date: 7/22/2006
I’ve been using Xenical for a month now, and I have experienced all of the familiar and unfortunate side effects of too much fat in my diet. It seems as though as time moves on, I experience them less and less because I am avoiding the ‘bad foods’ and only eat some in moderation. I’ve been searching for other side effects (i.e., hair loss), and haven’t been successful in finding any info. I’ve noticed this morning that I have a huge bald spot on the back of my head, that of which I’ve NEVER noticed before (considering that I’m a woman who ‘plays’ with her long hair a lot, I’m more than concerned). Could this be a side effect?
As for the weight loss – I’m not so sure. I’ve been exercising regularly for four weeks now, and I don’t notice any real changes – other than the fact that my legs feel a little more toned (from the treadmill, no doubt). I’m 31, 340 pounds, and 5’6”….Should I notice significant changes by this time? Oh yeah…I don’t have a scale so I’m definitely NOT counting pounds (considering that I need to lose a lot of weight). Any comments or feedback on my situation (i.e., hair loss and results) would be appreciated.
Susanna
AskDocWeb: Hair loss is not a reported side affect, but that’s not to say it can’t happen. Best to be safe and have your doctor check it out.
Subj: Sharp pain in head
Date: 7/24/2006
Hi, I’ve found Xencial of great help in kick starting my diet, I’ve lost 8/9 lbs in 2 weeks. I’ve had the common side effects which are not too much of a problem. However I’m experiencing a dull sharp pain in the left side of my head, this particulary happens after I’ve taken a dose.
Any suggestions? Many thanks.
Wayne
AskDocWeb: We suggest you talk with your doctor about this, such pains shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Subj: Xenical dizziness
Date: 7/26/2006
I just started taking Xenical today and I am feeling dizzy from it. How long should I expect this side effect to last?
Marlene
AskDocWeb: Only about two people out of a thousand experience dizziness from Xenical. You should let your doctor know about this side effect.
Subj: Zencial depression
Date: 7/28/2006
Yes, I was free from depression and anxiety for 9 months and I started taking zenical and two days later the depression started to come back. I could not figure out and I realized it was the zenical. I stopped immediately and the depression subsided but I have to continue the depression medicine to bring myself back into reality….
Cynthia
Subj: No weight loss
Date: 7/30/2006
I have been taking Xenical for a couple of weeks now and I haven’t lost any weight. I was just wondering when I would start seeing and weight loss? I’m also exercising at least 3 times a week and still nothing?
Melissa
AskDocWeb: You should have seen some results by now. If your BMI is over 30, talk with your doctor about what might work better for you.
Subj: Xenical not working
Date: 8/2/2006
I have been taking Xenical for about 3-4 weeks now and I haven’t lost any weight and I work out about 4 or 5 days out of seven and I haven’t even lost a pound. I was wondering how long it takes to see a difference or if it maybe doesn’t work for me? I have bowel movements and everything else but no weight loss.
Melissa
AskDocWeb: If order for it to work as intended, you have to combine the Xenical with diet and exercise. Taking the pill by itself is a waste of time and money.
Subj: Joint pain from Xenical
Date: 8/3/2006
I was taking Xenical for about two weeks when I experienced joint pain in my arm, not knowing if it was the medicine or exercising I stopped taking it. I just resumed again 5 days ago and am now having awful back pain. I will discontinue again. Happy health to all!
Tina
Subj: Swelling and bloating
Date: 8/7/2006
I have been on xenical since the 17 of July. I am having some swelling in my hands in the mornings when I wake up and bloating through out the day. Its not everyday but some. Is this normal? Also I have gain some weight, not much like a pound or two. Could this be the water weight or what else could be causing it?
Becky
AskDocWeb: No, it is not normal. It sounds like you are retaining fluid and need to talk with your doctor.
Subj: Xenical side effects
Date: 8/8/2006
I have been on Xenical for 2 weeks and have not lost any weight at all. Our normal fat intake is less than 30% every day and we are semi vegetarians. Exercise every day.
Side effects are usual ones named above/below, light headedness and very, very runny stools no matter what is eaten. Have also noticed that fresh fruit and veg have a much quicker turn-around rate than fish, meat or poultry.
Carrie
Subj: Rash
Date: 8/9/2006
I took Xenical for a month and developed a horrible rash on both of my arms. I’ve been off of the Xenical for two weeks now and the rash still hasn’t gone away. Will it go away? Should I stay off of Xenical completely, I’m afraid it will spread elsewhere (like on my face)!!
Angela
AskDocWeb: Any time a rash lasts more than a week then it’s time to visit your doctor about it. If you have any trouble breathing, seek help immediately.
Subj: First prescription for Xenical
Date: 8/12/2006
I have just received my first prescription of xenical and weigh 310 lbs. and am 5’11 1/2″ tall. What recommendations do you have for me?
Debra
AskDocWeb: Follow your doctor’s instructions and let us know how it goes.
Subj: Real or fake?
Date: 9/6/2006
How can I tell the real xenical from the fake?
Margaret
AskDocWeb: The average person can’t tell the difference. The safest way is to buy xenical from a reputable drugstore.
Subj: Xenical not working
Date: 9/8/2006
I have been taking xenical for four weeks and lost a menial .2 of a kilo. I have been opening my bowels every 1-2 days and it varies from regular to oily stools nothing to irregular. I tried xenical because I have been trying to lose weight on my own for about 10 months and I only GAINED 8 kilos. But I have successfully lost weight on my own a few times before, but I am finding it unusually HARD this time round. I have just turned 31. Could this be an age thing. Any suggestion would be Grateful.
Karlene
AskDocWeb: No it’s not an age thing. It sounds like Xenical just isn’t working well for you. This happens to some people. You’ll probably have to increase the amount of exercise you get in order to lose the weight you want to lose. Read more feedback about Xenical.
