Subj: Antibiotic that doesn’t cause yeast infection?
Date: 12/22/2004
Every time I go to the Dentist I have to take an antibiotic and every time I get a yeast infection. I’m starting to get an immune system to every kind of yeast infection medication. The last time it took months even went to the doctor twice cuz could not get it cleared. I go to the dentist alot because of maintenance program cleanings. I know there is an antibiotic that does not cause yeast infections, can you tell me what this antibiotic is as I’m needing to renew my prescription and I wand to take that one.
Debbie
AskDocWeb: A lot of people get a yeast infection when using amoxicillin. A couple of antibiotics that will not cause a yeast infection are Cefzil and Bactrim.
Subj: Awful burning during menstruation
Date: 1/7/2005
I was wondering if you could shed some light on a problem I seem to be having. Every month when I begin to menstruate, I get very irritated around the vaginal opening. The burning is awful. When I shower and wash with soap, the burning is worse. I have seen my doctor and she had prescribed an anti fungal yeast med to use, but doesn’t seem to help, as it recurs the next month. I don’t have symptoms in between periods, just when bleeding. Any suggestions? And what might be causing this?
M
AskDocWeb: I think the problem might be that you are washing an area of your body with soap that is too sensitive to be exposed to soap. Your doctor should have told you not to use soap in the vaginal area, just wash it with water using your fingers. Soap will cause irritation, dryness, and a burning sensation.
Subj: Candidiasis
Date: 1/11/2005
I have read your article in the Internet and found it so helpful. Mostly I get vaginal irritation after intercourse. My partner says he doesn’t get any irritation. We normally meet say like two times in a month utmost. Where can u classify this? My doctor told me its candidiasis and it takes time to clear. How true is that? Thanks
Roi
AskDocWeb: Yes, your doctor is correct. Candidiasis does take time to clear up. Depending on what treatment your doctor chose, it will take from 3 to 10 days, if everything goes well.
Subj: Yeast infection?
Date: 1/29/2005
I thought I had a yeast infection. I took the Safeway brand of Monistat 3, nothing happened, so I got Fluconazole from the Dr with no appointment. I thought it was better 2 days after taking the pill, but I tried to have sex tonight and it KILLED! am I not better? I looked and now my vagina is really red again! What should I do? Please help me! Thanks,
Kristine
AskDocWeb: You may have another problem than a yeast infection. I suggest you have a pelvic exam at your doctor’s office to find out what is going on.
Subj: Monthly yeast infections
Date: 2/1/2005
I suffer from monthly yeast infections. (I always get them one week before my period). I found that eating organic, plain yogurt helps better than eating regular, plain yogurt (such as Dannon). Also, if it gets really bad, especially at night, I will take a tampon and coat it with the organic yogurt and insert it. I will leave this in overnight (for about 8 hours). This works so much better than Monistat. I usually feel some type of relief within 20 minutes. Also, if my vulva is irritated, I apply a little tea trea oil. It may sting a little, but it works really well!

Subj: Malodorous condition
Date: 2/4/2005
Dear Sir, I have been struggling with a strong malodorous condition for months. I have had a wet mount and everything returned normal, and have had a normal Pap. My doctors have looked for foreign retained objects and nothing was found. Despite the fact that I have been everywhere and have tried everything I continue to have a terrible odor. I don’t know what to think or what to try next. Nothing seems to help. I can take a shower or use a betadine vaginal douche and still have co-workers rubbing their noses, and making faces at me. I am at the end of my rope with this. Any information or education you could offer would be appreciated.
Tammy
AskDocWeb: There are many things that you can use to cover the odor but they will not solve your problem. Forget about finding a solution until you find out what is causing the problem. Sounds like you need to see a gynecologist to get some answers.
Subj: Spreading yeast infection

thanks
Rose
AskDocWeb: It can take anywhere form a few days to one week.
Subj: Yeast infection in boyfriend
Date: 2/28/2005
My boyfriend thinks that he has yeast infection, he is a diabetic and does not control his sugar intake. Could he also catch it from unsanitary conditions in a bathroom like the toilet. And what could he do to get this under control, really could use some info.
Eileen
AskDocWeb: No, it is unlikely that he got it from an unsanitary bathroom. Tell him to go to the pharmacy and buy a yeast infection ointment. This is available over the counter. If that doesn’t work, seek help from a physician, it could be something else.
Subj: Infected
Date: 3/9/2005
I am worried I may have caught a yeast infection off my boyfriend. I’ve never had any problems with other sexual partners, is it possible that my partner has cheated on me and slept with someone who has a yeast infection passing it onto me. Or could he have had a yeast infection with his x-girlfriend and have kept it for 3 months???
Sarah
AskDocWeb: First, you need to know that yeast infections have several causes that have nothing to do with sexual conduct. Here is a partial list: Antibiotics, steroid medicines such as prednisone, birth control pills, pantyhose, perfumes or oils that irritate the skin or don’t wash off, nylon underpants, antibacterial soaps, scented toilet paper, deodorant, tampons, some powders, some detergents, synthetic undergarments, and wearing wet swim suits or undergarments too long.
It is possible your boyfriend cheated on you. It is also possible that he had the yeast infection for three months. It is just as possible that you gave him the yeast infection. There are too many possible causes to know for sure.
Subj: Painful sex
Date: 3/11/2005
Hello there. I found your information on Yeast Infections very helpful however I have an additional question. I had a yeast infection well over a week ago from antibiotics I took for a cold/flu and yesterday (March 10) I tried to have sex but couldn’t because it was painful. I know that is one of the symptoms of a yeast infection but that seems to be the only one I have now. I used Monistat to treat it and I thought it was gone until I tried to have sex. How long will the pain last for? Should I get another treatment even though pain during intercourse is the only symptom I have left? Please help!!
babyblue
AskDocWeb: Another treatment of something that doesn’t work may be a waste of time. Have a pelvic examination, you may need something stronger to get rid of this.
Subj: Yeast infection came back
Date: 3/27/2005
When I went to my gynecologist to consult about the excessive itching of my vagina…she found out that I do have a candidiasis. She prescribed some medicines and temporarily the growth of yeast temporarily stops and got no discharges…however, when I do intercourse again with my husband, the itching and pain during intercourse then went back. I did buy the medicine the doctor prescribed me before…however, the fungus have developed ’til to my rectum area…it keeps on itching…and to the corner of my lips…what do you advice me to do? Badly needed ur help!
Candy
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you needed to be on the medication for a longer period of time. You need to return to your doctor and explain what happened. Please read everything here about yeast infection. You may need to make some changes to your behavior in addition to the medication in order to get rid of this.
Subj: Over the counter product for yeast growth
Date: 4/6/2005
Hello, after having a swab taken I have been told that I have a heavy yeast growth, not candida albikan – what over the counter product is best to treat this, or am I better seeing my GP?
Gill
AskDocWeb Monostat is a good one. It comes in two strengths, a 3 day treatment and a 7 day treatment.
Subj: Red itchy patches
Date: 4/9/2005
I keep having red itchy patches, some will have a white spot in the middle like a white head they are sore to the touch in my pubic hair that I can’t seem to get rid of. The doctor gave me some pills for 7 days. I took them and seemed to get a little better. But now it is coming back I can’t wear pants. I have to wear jumper dresses when I wear pants and I don’t wear tight pants but the pants seem to bring it out more, it is more irritating. I have gotten off the ortho-tri-cycle pill a couple of weeks ago to see if that will help! Do you know of anything else I can do? I would appreciate any information you can give me! Thanks,
Kim
AskDocWeb You could seek the help of a dermatologist. He may be able to help you find out what it is.
Subj: When to intercourse
Date: 4/27/2005
I have recently just finished taking a yeast infection medication (cream) and was wondering how soon after I can have intercourse if I am on the pill?
AskDocWeb: If your symptoms are gone, right now. Otherwise make another appointment with your doctor.
Subj: Monthly yeast infection
Date: 5/13/2005
Hi, every month a week before I get my period I always get a yeast infection. At least it feels like one, I have the same symptoms as a yeast infection. Is this normal to get a yeast infection every month and a week before I have my period???
Samantha
AskDocWeb: No, it isn’t and you don’t have to put up with it. Try some of the suggestions found here and let us know which one works for you.
Subj: Red patches on penis
Date: 5/18/2005
Hello, My boyfriend experiences red sore patches on his penis after we have sex. It lasts for a day or two and then turns into a rough scaly patch before it finally goes away. It can take up to a week before the skin is back to normal. Could it be that I have a yeast infection and it transfers to him during sex? I have no symptoms of a yeast infection. What other causes could there be? Thank you for your time.
Sarah
AskDocWeb: Yes, you could be infecting him with yeast but, he needs to be checked out by his physician for the safety of you both.
